Acting for children: exercises for beginners. Conscious facial expressions

Good actors get used to any role. All professionals read scripts, rehearse monologues, and also undertake creative experiments in acting courses. Good game It looks like it comes effortlessly, but in fact, enormous efforts are put into it. The following guidelines will help you become a top-notch actor.

Steps

Do-it-yourself preparation

    Record monologues and short skits. Buy a collection of monologues online or at printed form and rehearse a variety of roles. Choose a monologue and run it 2-3 times, then record your speech on video. When revising, pay attention to weak points, successful phrases, and also write down ideas for improving your game. After that, repeat and record the monologue again until you are satisfied with the result.

    Watch your favorite actor. Watch and re-watch your favorite scenes. What do the actor's movements look like? What words are emphasized in each line? How does an actor behave in a moment of silence? It's not enough to just watch your favorite actors. Study their playing style.

    Focus on diction or manner of speaking. All actors must pronounce lines clearly and confidently. Video recording will come to the rescue again. Listen to your voice and pay attention to unclear phrases. Learn to speak clearly at varying volumes and speeds so that every word exudes power and conviction.

    Practice cold reading. In cold reading, you are given lines and asked to act them out without preparation. This type of task often comes up during auditions. The task may seem daunting, but it helps improve acting skills and improvisation skills, which makes the actor more confident.

    Get used to different roles, characters and people. The best actors are like chameleons - they melt into every role. This requires rich emotional experience. Watch movies and plays, read information, and take notes to see the world through a character's eyes. This is especially important when preparing for a specific role. Go deeper into the role, explore the issue, and become fully immersed in the character.

Preparing for the role

  1. Read the script several times. To play well, you need to grasp the entire plot, not just your role. The actor should not stand out, but become a cog in the big mechanism of the story. To do this, you will need to understand the plot, all the themes and motives, as well as your own role.

    • Analyze the entire plot and go back to your character's scenes. Read them a couple more times and then focus on the character's role and words.
    • How would you summarize the movie in 1-2 sentences? What about your role?

Recently I was once again asked the question: how can you develop your artistry?

The ability to be artistically bright and emotionally involved in the performance process - important quality for the speaker. Of course, I always remind you that a speaker does not need to be an artist drama theater. And the genre is not the same, and the tasks are different. But still, having at least minimal acting skills is useful both on stage and in life.

Realizing that developing acting skills is a long, long process, I still decided to give 5 tips to seekers in this article. These will be 5 techniques that will help you develop your emotionality, remove emotional blocks that prevent you from expressing yourself in life, etc. And they will help you do it yourself. Out of habit, some exercises may seem stupid. This is fine. Many of them really look stupid. The main thing is that they are extremely useful. Try it and see for yourself.

Exercise No. 1. "Wild duck"

This is a good exercise to start your day with. This immediately activates your emotional potential. Gives creative charge all day.

The exercise is very simple. You begin to portray a wild duck that has found itself in a room unknown to it: your apartment. How to portray her? I have no idea. This is your duck! Act as God wishes. There can be nothing “wrong” here. Allow yourself to fully express yourself. And it’s better if you eventually move from depiction to “actor’s naturalism,” i.e. “BECOME” a wild duck. I'm not talking about werewolves. I'm talking about psychologically getting used to the role. A good actor does not portray - he is in complete merging of his own self with the self of the object he portrays. You have to think like a duck, act like a duck - in short, be a duck! All this wealth of artistic enlightenment comes with experience. But if you train, it definitely comes.

Having become comfortable with ducks, move on to other smaller brothers, and big ones too. Tigers, lions, eagles, elephants and partridges... And during the day you can take creative moments and try to copy not only animals, but also people.

Exercise No. 2. "Hawaiian Beach"

The exercise is similar to the Wild Duck in reverse. Confused? Now everything will become clearer.

You need to learn to imagine yourself in imaginary spaces. While in your apartment, imagine that you are on a Hawaiian beach. Lie down, bask in the sun, wink at someone, try a running sea wave(swim or not?), dip yourself in some water (good!), etc. I think you understand the principle. As you can see, unlike the “wild duck” in “Hawaiian beach” we are not working with an imaginary transformation internal space, but we transform the external space, learn to believe in it and exist in it.

As in the previous exercise, you can imagine different spaces. In short, I wish you a pleasant trip around the world. And by practicing the skills from this and the previous exercise, you can combine approaches and become a wild duck on a Hawaiian beach.

Exercise No. 3. "Colors"

Anyone who has ever watched actors play will agree that acting is, first of all, the ability to enter the desired emotional state on demand. Such mental mobility may be inherent to a person by nature, or may be the result of working on oneself. You can develop this mobility by entering and maintaining yourself in a given emotional state.

How to get into an emotional state? There are many ways to do this. For example, you need to enter into the emotion of joy. You can imagine yourself in a situation where you would definitely experience joy (situational modeling method). Can you remember yourself in a situation where you experienced the emotion of joy and, oh, miracle, you already feel... let me guess what... - JOY! (method of increasing experience). Finally, you can imagine how a person behaves in a state of joy and begin to behave the same way - and joy will not be slow to come to you (behavioral modeling method)... There are other approaches, for example, through listening to appropriate music.

Experiment, train, create! Go through different emotional states: joy, anger, surprise, inspiration, boredom, fear, solemnity, pride, resentment, impatience, calm, dreaminess, tenderness...

Learn to be in every emotional coloring for at least three minutes, and then alternate between different emotional states. Try to be silent in emotion, act in emotion, talk to an imaginary listener, communicate with real people(go to the store, talk to the sellers in a tone of joy or anger). At first, it will be easier to communicate with real people in positive terms than in negative ones. And only by overcoming certain barriers to expressing yourself can you truly achieve freedom of emotional expression.

Exercise No. 4. "Gibberish"

We study acting for only one purpose - to communicate more successfully. So in our “travel kit” acting exercises Powerful practices for training acting skills in speech must be included. And here is the first of them.

You need to try to speak for as long as possible in an incomprehensible language that you invent along the way. At the first stage, this exercise often causes shock: what is it like to speak in an unknown language? It’s very simple: shahtamanan nasarib tanu, kastaranya us takalan mako nasarab - ranis zatanalak utsapan nukares yalah tum: oz, esterpasa ranal, žejmyanyk, astutrbakanar yufan! This language should not be invented in advance, but, as it were, born in the process of speech. Let go of your speech organs, start talking nonsense, without thinking about what your tongue is saying. Your task is to let yourself go and include intonations, so that this speech is intonationally colored and expressive. And the more, the better. Let emotions fill nonsense with meaning.

“Gibberish” helps to get rid of speech restrictions, excessive dependence on the meaning of words, fear of saying something stupid, and actively trains emotional expressiveness and much more…

Exercise No. 5. "Storytelling"

Have you ever attended a meeting? professional actors? For me personally - many times. Usually, when a good actor starts talking about something, you will listen.

Why is it so exciting to listen to actors speak? The actors speak very figuratively. And here there is imagery in two directions. Firstly, they try to show and demonstrate everything: with gestures, facial expressions, the whole body, which makes the actor’s speech very picturesque, prominent, in contrast to the banal exchange of information characteristic of the communication of people who are not experienced in acting. Secondly, the actors speak in very figurative language. What do I mean by this? You can say: I walked through the forest, I liked it, I breathed fresh air. Facts, facts, facts... You can approach the expression of thoughts differently: as soon as I entered the forest, it enchanted me, the rays of the sun peeked through the whispering foliage, which cast a lacy graceful shadow everywhere, birds sang in all voices: they clicked, trilled, and air - this fragrant wonderful air that you don’t want to inhale, but drink with your whole chest. I guess the second option is more attractive to listen to? If you agree with me, then read on. The second option contains a lot figurative descriptions and emotional personal assessments. Now about how we should train.

We have identified two characteristics speeches of professional actors, and these skills need to be trained in two stages.

At the first stage, make up any factual sentence (for example: there is a broken pencil on the table) and add figurative descriptions and emotional assessments to it (for example: on a table shabby in labor battles, with the lead sadly hanging, there lies a broken pencil, one might say, broken by fate) .

At the second stage, pronounce this sentence and try to add to it acting demonstrations of what is happening, intonation colors, and facial expressions. And of course, the feeling of what is happening. In short, add everything we learned in previous exercises.

First you will come up with short phrases. And then, having mastered the techniques and felt them, you will move on to freely telling any stories using figurative language and artistic demonstrations.

By the way, demonstrative acting skills can be developed by telling jokes. There are always some participants, and sometimes dialogues different people. Here is an opportunity for you to speak in different voices, practice speaking and expressive gestures, and at the same time hone your joke-telling skills. In my opinion, a wonderful and useful task.

To summarize all that has been said, I would like to add that they hone their acting skills in rehearsal, and enjoy it in the performance. I have always been interested in showing my acting work to the public. Of course, it was always a little scary. I still get excited when I perform something new. It is impossible to calculate 100% the reaction of the audience. There is always a risk. And yet this risk is more than justified. This is why I usually recommend that anyone and everyone learn acting in a group. To this end, I have developed a course in acting and speech creativity for the speaker “School of Image”, where for a whole month we develop acting skills with an emphasis on public speaking. However independent work no one cancels. And for this you now have a reliable set of time-tested acting exercises. Good luck!

Did you know that every child can become good actor, if you start developing his abilities in early childhood? True, a stumbling block may be parents’ ignorance of what first steps to take in this direction. This article will focus on where to start developing a child’s acting abilities at home. You will find in it information on the basis of which you can carry out at home classes on acting for children, exercises For creative development your child in the art of transformation.

First, let's figure out how these skills will come in handy little man in life. You probably have no idea how much benefit it can bring acting for kids! And the exercises , with the help of which this art is mastered, also bring kids a lot of joy, fun and creative satisfaction. Here is what useful learning this type of skill can give a child:

  • The child will not be squeezed and constrained at countless matinees, school events, performances in camps and circles;
  • He will learn to put himself in the place of others, will be capable of empathy;
  • Acting abilities perfectly build character, so such children are usually active, sociable, and have many friends;
  • If you don't know how to develop self-confidence in a child , then acting classes will also come in handy here. Children cannot live without play and transformation. The invented world and new images fulfill the dream of being the way you want, and this strengthens self-confidence.

First abilities to role-playing games appear at two and a half to three years. That's why at this age you can start little by little acting classes for children. Exercises can be quite simple at first and can even fit organically into other activities. If books are often read to your child, he will definitely be inspired by the idea of trying on the role of an affectionate kitten, a cowardly bunny, or a brave bear. The task of parents at this moment is to set an interesting tone for banal dialogues and events. For example, a child wants to be a salesman. But simply buying goods is boring for both mother and her baby. Invite your child to pretend to be a disgruntled salesman. Tell us about facial expressions: frowning brows, hands on hips and other attributes of grumblers. The positive and encouraging reaction that is required from the mother at this moment will happen by itself. You'll laugh heartily as kids immerse themselves in the character to the fullest. They notice details that are not noticeable to an adult, right down to scratching the bridge of the nose and stunningly similar intonation.

Come up with more complex tasks in the game, for example:

  • The doctor you came to see for treatment also has a toothache;
  • The train, on which the baby monotonously rides every day, suddenly left from under his very nose;
  • The cowardly hare found magic wand and confidently approached the wolf.

The main idea that is important to convey to the child: depending on the situation, the same character can behave differently. At this moment he is neither bad nor good - he experiences feelings . Then the wolf becomes not angry, but lonely, bored or offended. With this interpretation, the baby will be able to play any role in the future, including the most cunning and insidious.

How to move from a hobby game to professional skill?

Tell your child that acting profession- this is the ability to transform into a character so that everyone believes the image on stage.

Acting is carried out using several key points:

  • Speeches (the most appropriate intonation is selected, conveying the age, character, and mood of the hero);
  • Facial expressions (one of the most difficult, but very expressive techniques in this profession);
  • Body movements, postures

Acting for children: exercises

Now you can go to practical exercises on the art of transformation.

A striking example would be the image of an old grandmother. Ask the young actor to play this role only with intonation, without movements.

Then show all the details of the grandmother’s posture and facial expressions: the head is slightly tilted, the back is hunched, left hand holding a wand, right ㅡ grabbed the lower back, legs slightly bent at the knees. The face is wrinkled, but good-natured, with a slight smile.

Then we give the novice actor time to memorize all the elements in the pose, then we offer everyone famous game and say: “One, two, three ㅡ sea figure freeze!” When pronouncing this phrase, the child does whatever he wants, but last word freezes in the learned pose of an old grandmother. This game is both an interesting and challenging preparation for your baby's first roles at home. She will help him not to get confused in acting courses, where there will be an unfamiliar environment.

The profession of an actor evokes in children big interest because of the unusual atmosphere, scenery, costumes. Boys must be shown how to handle a sword, march correctly, and load a pistol. It would be a good idea for young princesses to learn about social manners, table setting and other feminine skills.

Why is it important to inform your child? The more he is aware of different professions, skills and behavior of certain categories of people, the less tightness he will have on stage.

How to maximize your child’s acting talent?

If parents want their child to have excellent acting skills, they need to develop him in the following areas:

  • First, you need to deal with the child’s speech. Even small defects can cause big complexes and anxiety on stage. You can correct the situation with the help of a speech therapist. Also encourage your child to declare poems with expression.
  • Listen classical music, as it develops good hearing. For children over seven years old, a music school can also help.
  • It is also important to develop athletic fitness, a sense of balance, dexterity and ease of movement. Dancing and active games are great for this.
  • An aspiring actor must also know his face: act in front of a mirror, take photographs and be filmed. When viewing frames, note the child’s facial expressions: praise for a smile, an expressive look, eyebrow movements.

  • Helping your child cope with his fears is the last and most important point. You need to instill in the child that he is unique: “Anyone can play Cinderella, but since you are no one!” Tell me that even famous actors they get nervous on stage, make mistakes and forget words, but treat it with humor.

We have already touched on the topic above, How to develop self-confidence in a child. Acting classes for children, exercises - in themselves are a factor that strengthens self-confidence. But in any child’s endeavors, the support and faith of parents in their child is very important. If you are the most attentive viewer of your child, he will definitely succeed!

Among the millions of such techniques, you need to highlight a few basic ones that will help you show yourself in all its glory.

Basic acting exercises

And so, approaching detailed analysis each exercise, it is worth saying that among their huge number it is difficult to choose the best. But in in this case you need to analyze at least one option to train various aspects.

Exercise one. Memory training

When starting exercises to develop acting skills, you must first start training your memory. After all, it’s no secret that any actor, be he a novice amateur or a well-known specialist, needs to learn a huge number of words and lines every day.

In order to train your brain, the best world scientists developed technology that allows you to remember a lot of information. The name of this technology is mnemonics, and it consists in the fact that you need to remember not “raw” words and phrases, but associate them with pictures, images, and so on.

The exercise itself is as follows. Your task is to write down the necessary words or phrases that you would like to learn today. Next, read them out loud several times, and try to come up with an individual association for each. Don't complicate your life, just imagine in your head a bright picture, and so on with all phrases and phrases.

As a result, you will end up with something similar to an imaginary film strip, where all the material that you needed to learn is sequentially presented.

Exercise two. Imagination training

Continuing interesting exercises in acting, it’s worth moving on to training your own imagination. Scientists prove that human imagination has no limits, which is why we see dreams, some of which may seem like complete nonsense.

This part of the preparation plays important role, since only a trained person will be able to play the necessary role as correctly as possible and produce unforgettable impression on spectators and colleagues.
The exercise itself is banal. While walking down the street, you need to pay attention to strangers passing by, and by their appearance and manners, imagine them life position, profession, Family status. This is more like training some kind of psychic quotes, but believe me, this exercise will greatly help any beginner!

Exercise No. 3. Developing imagination

“Running” across the Internet with the request: “Acting exercises for beginners,” pay attention to exercises that help develop imagination. After all, this is an important aspect in the career of any actor.

How can you develop your imagination? Everything is banally simple. Place any item in front of you (be it a chair, a toy, a wardrobe item, or something else), and try, using your imagination, to tell what this item is made of and in what way. Believe me, this gaming approach only increases the chances of a better effect!

Exercise four. Developing facial expressions

And now you come to a very important part of self-development for an aspiring professional. Everyone knows that challenging task professional is the most truthful transfer of emotions. And it often happens that you need to portray strong anger or crying on camera, while behind the scenes everyone is joking and having fun.
In order to carry out this exercise, write down on a piece of paper a certain number of necessary emotions that you want to strengthen today. And then, in turn, imitate each of them in front of the mirror. Also, after finishing the exercise, ask someone close to you to evaluate your skills. Show him the learned emotions and listen to his criticism.

Exercise No. 5. Speech comes first!

And so, having listed four main exercises aimed at comprehensive development, you need to get down to the most important thing “ business card" professional. After all, most roles are played by people with correct speech and the ability to correctly express their thoughts.
To achieve this goal, all methods will be good. Read a lot of different literature, tongue twisters, special words and so on. In addition, learn how to correctly pause between words when there is a change in the idea of the text, its suspension, etc. It is also necessary to set up the effect of exclamation and question as correctly as possible, so that it sounds and looks vital, and without fanaticism.

To become talented actor, you need to put in enormous effort and time. But any path to the pinnacle of glory begins with self-development, so it’s worth starting with yourself first. To this end, there are many exercises designed to train all aspects of an actor and his skills.

Methods for developing acting skills are very popular today with both adults and children. The reason for this is the requirements that life itself sets: the ability to adequately respond to external stimuli, to act quickly in critical situations express your thoughts clearly and clearly.

The last quality is most in demand by those whose occupation is related to communication: lecturers, company employees who often present presentations or make reports. The main ways to help develop hidden talents will be presented below.

Basic rules for beginners

Usually, training begins with the simplest techniques, but this does not mean that they are primitive or ineffective. Moreover, many of them are successfully used in leading acting schools. So, the basics of acting include:

  • techniques for achieving expressiveness (pantomimes, small skits);
  • who will name more words by letter;
  • his own imitator;
  • fantasy task (come up with a biography).

In addition to these, there are other methods - there are quite a lot of them. In general, it is not necessary to provide a scientific basis or organize some of your achievements - as long as they work. For example, the “broken phone” game used to be very popular among children - but with its help, they also develop the ability to hear, improvise, and sometimes transform.

Pantomime has been known for a very long time; it can be said to be one of the secrets of acting. A mime must be able to convey anything with the help of plasticity, movements, and subtle gestures: a mood, an action, an event. IN ancient Greece actors used pantomime to convey different tempers and even characters. Considering that usually the composition of the troupe was strictly limited (and it included only men), this required remarkable talent.

From folk entertainment the game is very close to pantomime strange name"Crocodile". The presenter, on the instructions of the participants, must exclusively use gestures (without saying a word) to describe a word, phrase, saying, action, while he will have to make every effort so that the other players can solve the rebus.

Exercises with words starting with a specific letter develops creative thinking, teaches a non-standard perception of the world. The closest analogue is the game of cities. Can be recommended for developing acting skills for children. Trains memory, reaction speed, imagination, develops horizons. Imitation is based on the ability to repeat someone else's manners, speech, and gait.

Parodists master it brilliantly. You watch the performance of a talented imitator portraying famous person, and you are surprised: in appearance they are not at all similar, but everything else is like 2 drops of water! The ability to “disembody” into another type helps to create an image that matches the role, and to do it as deeply as possible.

An imagination task will come in handy while traveling on public transport: looking at random fellow travelers, you can imagine in your mind what this person does, where he works, what his temperament and habits are. The task becomes more complicated when exact data about a person is known, but the one who describes him does not know them.

A classic example is when Sherlock Holmes played a joke on his doctor friend by inviting him to make a “portrait” of a passer-by (who actually turned out to be the detective’s brother). For those interested in various esoteric practices, there is a similar exercise: they need, by the will of their imagination, to imagine that they are in unfamiliar city or a completely foreign place and gradually adapt yourself to your usual state.

Important. During classes, you need not so much to quickly learn how to use techniques, but to focus on the quality of their implementation. And, of course, don’t be afraid to experiment.

Exercises to develop attention

Elements aimed at attentiveness (concentration) are the basis of the artist’s work. A person is always surrounded by objects and other people that prevent him from doing his job with maximum efficiency, accurately and accurately. An actor must be able to, despite irritating factors, short period time to completely “disconnect” from outside world, focusing on the task at hand (the embodiment of the image).

One of the most simple ways how to learn acting at home is the countdown technique. To do this, you need to close your eyes and count from 100 to 1 evenly, at the same pace. At the same time, the trainee maintains even and deep breathing, trying to imagine the image of each number.

The second method is associated with the ability to concentrate on a specific subject. You should take a comfortable position, concentrating on some thing, for example, the minute hand of a clock. It is very important to imagine that nothing else exists except this object. Hypnotists and psychotherapists use a similar practice when they put a patient into a state of deep trance.

What is special about attention exercises for children?

Acting for children 3 years of age and older involves the same exercises as for adults, but less complex. For example, a common game is “find some differences”. The child is shown two pictures that differ from each other. At first, it is permissible to give hints and push children in the right direction. Gradually, the baby learns to independently find the required parts, choosing more and more complex tasks.

Important. Particular subtlety is required in the ability to interest the child and introduce an element of play into the task. If a careless word or action discourages a child from engaging in an activity, it will not be so easy to entice him again.

How pantomime helps to reveal talent

The ability to convey emotions and subtle experiences with the help of gestures, plasticity, and dance has been known for a long time. Famous examples of this acting skill for adults - street performers, circus clowns, Japanese theater Kabuki. The artist’s goal is to, having at his disposal a limited arsenal of tools (makeup, costumes), convey what he wants to the viewer as accurately as possible. This requires real talent.

Moreover, the actors make up in a special, minimalist style, placing the main emphasis on conveying the idea through body language and gestures. Somerset Maugham in his book "Theater" main character, the leading actress, perfectly mastered the art of holding a pause - and with the help of this technique she played any role perfectly.

A person practicing pantomime must learn to convey emotions through subtle movements, turning the body, tilting the head: anger, sadness, joy, despair, and in such a way that the audience has a complete illusion of what is happening, without any doubt.

How to properly develop coordination

The ability to move or coordinate fluidly and accurately is a great help in improving acting skills for teenagers. Dancing, outdoor games, including team games, and sports are designed to accustom the vestibular apparatus to orientation in space.

At the same time, such activities contribute to the development of a harmonious personality - completely in accordance with the saying of Chekhov, who believed that everything in a person should be beautiful. Some sports, such as tennis, simultaneously strengthen muscles and develop the eye. Performing complex movements that require high concentration in figure skating or gymnastics is also achieved through persistent training. But acting for models includes exercises on the ability to move easily and plastically, as well as a sense of balance.

You can start with the basics: learn to stand on one leg while maintaining your balance. Or throw the ball at the wall, trying to catch it on the rebound (more difficult option- standing on one leg). They develop coordination well in games that require moving along complex scheme, while performing some task: basketball, football, hockey.

Acting for beginners includes exercises to maintain balance on a beam or balance beam, and obstacle course running.

Examples of exercises and etudes

It doesn’t matter whether acting is required for life or just as a hobby, to develop it, everyone is able to develop several basic exercises, repeating which, it is quite possible to achieve tangible results:

  1. Exercise in front of a mirror. Looking at your reflection, read a poem with expression, sing, trying to convey emotions as fully as possible. Helps prepare for public speaking, develops diction and reduces the threshold of fear of public speaking.
  2. Depict the mood. Try to use body position and facial expressions to overwhelm emotions (for example, joy). To do this, you need to imagine some bright event, literally feel it again and play it, create an image happy person. This same category includes advice on how to learn to cry with the help of acting: you need to remember some sad, unbearable event in your life (personal tragedy, emotional experience) and force yourself to relive it.
  3. Free improvisation. Find unique image, recreate it by to the smallest details(gait, speech, behavior, accent) and with their help complete the portrait. You can make friendly caricatures of friends and acquaintances, and then ask them how successful the copy was.

Attention. During any exercise, it is important not to overact, to rely on the sincerity and subtlety of experiences, and not on excessive emphasis on external manifestations of emotions.

Finally

There are no absolutely universal methods of how to learn acting - there are only general recommendations. And on their basis, anyone - a teacher, student, businessman, aspiring artist - is able to develop their natural talents or acquire new skills.
