Google webmaster tools. Google webmaster - Search Console tools (Google Webmaster)

An Internet marketer doesn't start his workday with coffee. He looks at the Metrics and Google Analytics reports, and then checks the information in Yandex.Webmaster and Search Console. Using medical terminology, panels for Yandex and Google webmasters show the health status of sites: accessibility for robots, indexing errors, number of pages in the index and other important parameters. How to properly use the Yandex.Webmaster services and Google Search Console? Read the beginner's guide.

Using the Search Console and Webmaster services, you can solve two groups of problems. Firstly, you can control the indexing of sites. Secondly, you can monitor the correctness of indexing, the site’s technical compliance with the requirements of search engines, and some resource performance metrics.

With this guide, you will learn how to use Google Search Console and Yandex.Webmaster. You will also find out why website owners in RuNet should use both services.

Please note that Search Console was previously called Google Webmaster Tools.

How to use Yandex.Webmaster

To add a site to Yandex.Webmaster, follow the appropriate link on the main page of the service.

On the new page, paste the resource URL into the field and click the “Add” button.

Confirm your right to manage the site using one of the suggested methods. Use the descriptions of the procedure for confirming rights to a site using a meta tag if your site runs on the CMS WordPress or Joomla.

If you did everything correctly, a message confirming rights will appear in the “Management Rights” section.

How to check general information about a site

To get a general summary of how your site is indexed, select the resource you want from the My Sites menu. To do this, use the search or select a site from the list.

After selecting a site, you will be taken to the “General Information” section. You can read brief information about site indexing. Here you can access data on the number of pages in the index, loaded and excluded pages, and the number of external links to the site. You also see the date of the last indexing and TIC of the resource.

You can view the data you are interested in in chart format. To do this, click on the icon next to the selected data. Notice the arrows to the right of the icons. They reflect the dynamics of indicators.

How to check a site's URL

To do this, use the corresponding section in the vertical menu of your account. Add the URLs of the pages you want to check in the field. Wait until the “Done” links appear next to the addresses.

How to evaluate site indexing

In the corresponding section of the menu you can see the site structure, lists of pages in search, excluded pages and incoming links. Please note that you can also access the lists from the general account summary. You can set a time filter for search pages and incoming links.

Pay attention to the “Site Structure” section. It helps you understand how the search engine “sees” the structure of a resource and whether its “vision” coincides with yours. You can download the data as a table.

In the “History” section you can track the dynamics of data changes. Information is presented in the form of customizable charts.

How to set up indexing

In the Indexing Setup section, you can evaluate and edit the robots.txt file, check sitemap indexing, change the main mirror, and configure the HTTPS protocol.

To analyze the robots.txt file, select the appropriate menu item. If necessary, you can edit the file in the Yandex.Webmaster interface and upload it to the site yourself. A guide to working with robots.txt will help you.

In the "Sitemap Files" section you will find information about sitemap indexing. If necessary, you can delete the irrelevant one and add a new sitemap.xml file. The “More details” link provides detailed information about file indexing.

In the “Main Mirror” section, you can indicate to the search robot the main mirror of the site. You also have the opportunity to configure the HTTPS protocol. Please note, to change the mirror, you need to enter current data into the robots.txt file using the Host directive.

How to track search queries

In the Search Queries section, you can track data about the key phrases that visitors use to find your site. In the “Popular Searches” section, you can see the “keywords” that brought you the most impressions and clicks in recent months. Using filters, you can select a reporting week or switch data between impressions and conversions.

In the “Query History” section, you can evaluate the share of selected “keys” in search traffic to the site, the average position in search results, impressions, conversions and CTR. The data is presented in the form of an interactive chart. Using the filter marked in the illustration, you can configure the region for which data is displayed.

In the “My Regions” section, you can add or remove regions for which you want to receive data on the search engine promotion of the resource.

In the “My Queries” subsection, you can track the “keys” for which the resource is most often displayed in the search results. You can also specify the key phrases for which you want to receive data.

How to set up a site's regional affiliation

To do this, in the “Site Geography” section, you need to select the “Site Region” subsection. If you want to change the geographic location determined by the robot, provide the relevant data and a URL confirming it.

In the "Addresses and Organizations" section, you can add or edit the company name and contact information.

How to protect yourself from content theft and increase your site's CTR in search results

These tasks are solved using the “Site Content” section. Use the "Original Texts" tool to notify Yandex about the publication of original material. Just follow the link, paste the original text into the field and click the “Add” button. Immediately after this, you can publish content on the site.

To make the snippet more attractive and increase the site’s CTR in the search results, you can use the proposed tools, for example, “Auto Ads”, “Products and Prices”, “Job Jobs”. Please note that if you are already using Schema.org micro markup, you do not need to apply additional markup.

How to rank a website in search results

In the "Site in Search Results" section, you can check and edit the title of quick links. To change the name, just use the drop-down menu and select the appropriate option. You can also change the URL sorting principle.

You can also change the case of the site name..ru. To change the case, add the desired option in the field on the Site Name Case page.

In the Security section, you can monitor notifications about malicious code on the site. And in the “Management Rights” section, you can delegate the right to access resource data to another user, as well as reset the rights.

The functionality of the Yandex.Webmaster system allows you to evaluate the indexing of a site by Yandex, as well as configure some indexing parameters. The cabinet menus and tools are easy to use and intuitive.

How to Use Google Search Console

See the Country and Language Targeting section for more information. By the way, if the audience of your resource lives in different countries and speaks different languages, check out the guide to creating a multilingual and multiregional website.

You can view a list of relevant errors in the Mobile Experience section. A guide to adapting sites for mobile traffic will help you eliminate them.

How to monitor site indexing

In the “Indexing Status” subsection of the “Google Index” section there is data on the number of pages indexed. You can enable rich data to see the number of pages indexed, blocked, and deleted.

The "Keywords in Content" section has relevant data. Please note that you can download the information as a table.

The “Blocked Resources” section contains data about pages whose indexing is completely or partially prohibited. Make sure your site does not have unnecessary restrictions for the search robot.

In the Remove URLs section, you can temporarily hide some pages from search results.

How to evaluate and set up a scan

In the “Scanning Errors” subsection of the “Scanning” section you will find information about errors on the site and server side. After fixing the error, you can notify the search engine about it.

In the “Crawling Statistics” section, you can monitor the performance characteristics of the Google robot: the number of pages crawled, the amount of information downloaded, and indexing time.

In the “See how Googlebot” section you can see how Google “sees” your pages. This allows you to track crawl errors and confirm content availability. To use the tool, enter the URL of the page you are interested in and click the "Get and Display" button.

In the Robots.txt File Inspection Tool section, you can check and edit the corresponding file.

In the "Sitemap Files" section, you can check the availability of the sitemap, as well as download the current Sitemap.xml file.

In the URL Settings section, you can configure your URL scanning options. Use this tool only when necessary.

Please see the Security Issues section for related information. If Google finds malicious code on your site, crawl the site and fix the problem.

After creating a website, the question arises of attracting visitors to it; in this case, the optimal source of natural traffic is search engines, in particular Google.

In Russia, in addition to Yandex, users actively use the Google search engine, which accounts for about 35% of the search traffic market share. Therefore, adding a site to Google is no less important than adding it to Yandex.

Google Search Console

To manage site indexing and add it to search, Google provides a convenient tool Google Search Console(previously it was called Google Webmasters Tool, it is often called “Google Webmaster”, by analogy with the Yandex.Webmaster service).

This service offers ample opportunities for website management:

  • Detailed statistics on the indexing of your site;
  • Statistics of search phrases by which users find your site;
  • Keywords in the content of your site (by popularity);
  • Report on internal and external links of your site;
  • Checking the site’s usability for use on mobile devices;
  • Error reports when a search robot crawls your site;
  • Ability to add Robots.txt and Sitemap.xml files;
  • Checking for site security problems.

Google Search Console also offers other useful services, such as: PageSpeed Insights (checking the loading speed of your site and useful tips for speeding up), Structured Data Markup Wizard and others.

In order to add a site to Google, you will need to register an account with Google, if you do not have one. And believe me, it’s worth it, since the Google Webmaster Center offers not just a convenient service for managing websites, but is also ready to teach you how to work with a website, select content and much more. You can find the necessary information in the Google Recommendations for Webmasters and Help sections .

We also recommend installing the Google Analytics traffic counter; it will allow you to transmit additional information about your site and user behavior on it to the search engine, this can be a positive factor in the ranking of your site. And most importantly, the counter will provide you with all the information about your site visitors, pages viewed, referral sources and much more.

Welcome again, young internet marketer! Why is it young, but because this material also belongs to the basic ones, for beginners, or, as they say, for “dummies”. And there is absolutely nothing offensive in this - we all start from where. In the last post, it was just given.

Now it’s the turn to add a site to Google Webmaster (aka Search Console). The fact is that many reports and analytics functions can be "use" only when using Google Analytics and Google Webmaster together.

To log into Google Webmaster, you can use the search and the corresponding request, or enter https://www.google.com/webmasters/ into the address bar of your browser.

On the page that opens, click the button "To come in" in the upper right corner. And using your account that was already created when installing analytics, you are taken to the main page of the Search Console. Where you can watch it, a short video in English, but with Russian subtitles.

Adding a site to Google Webmaster

Enter the address of your website and click. Next, Google will politely ask you to confirm your rights to manage the site and then lists several methods to choose from.

The rights to the site have been confirmed, which means we can start mastering Search Console.

Let's take a quick look at what useful things can be found among the Google Webmaster tools.

Search view

This section will tell you about how the site looks when displayed in search results, as well as what this appearance consists of. In the same section you can find recommendations for HTML optimization from Google itself and useful tips.

Search traffic

One of the most important sections when you are studying. In the analysis of search queries, you can find all the search queries for which your site was shown, where it will also be displayed at what position it was shown and the CTR overall and for each query separately. And here you will find all the links to your resource that Google has indexed.

Google Index

This section is designed to show the number of pages of your site that have been indexed and shown in Google search results.

Scanning

Here, special attention should be paid to two points - Sitemap and Robots.txt files. These files must be present on any website, because... are a direct guide to action for search engines. By the way, we have already talked about that.

Hello dear readers of the site! In the last article we looked at. Today we'll talk about how to add a website to Google Webmaster(Google Webmasters Tools). Or, speaking in Russian, add a blog to Google Webmaster Tools.

Yandex.Webmaster and Google Webmasters Tools are two main tools for collecting statistics and information about blog indexing in search engines. The only difference is that each of them allows you to track the site’s position in its search engine. And although in RuNet preference is given to Yandex, website promotion on Google is very important. And if the site falls under Yasha’s filter, then Google can become the main source of search traffic.

It must be said that Google indexes new sites and brings the first search visitors to them much faster than its competitor. This is especially important for young blogs, since a long absence of visitors discourages many new bloggers from developing a blog. I don’t know whether this is good or bad, but no one has canceled natural selection. It is survival of the fittest, that is, the most persistent achieves success.

Let's leave the lyrics and start adding the site to Google Webmaster.

How to add a site to Google Webmasters Tools (Google Webmaster Tools).

As in the case of Yandex.Webmaster, to add a site to Google Webmaster, you must have a registered account with Google. If you have a Gmail mailbox, then you already have an account. If not, then register.

A single Google account will allow you, in addition to Webmaster Tools, to access all products of this global Internet giant:

  • Gmail
  • AdSense
  • Analytics
  • FeedBurner
  • Google+
  • YouTube
  • Blogger
  • Picasa Web Albums
  • Google Reader, etc.

After registration, follow the link http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools. Enter your Email and password and click the “Login” button.

On the page that opens, click on the “Add site” button.

We write the domain name of the site that we want to add to Google Webmaster, and click “Continue”.

Now, as in Yandex.Webmaster, you need to confirm the rights to the site.

Confirmation of rights to the site in Google Webmasters Tools.

There are several methods to choose from. Let's look at two, in my opinion, the simplest.

  1. Download the html file to your computer by clicking on the link in step 1.
  2. Upload the hosting confirmation file to the root folder of the blog using .
  3. We confirm the rights to the site by clicking on the link in paragraph 3.
  4. Click the “Confirm” button.

We receive congratulations on successfully confirming your rights and adding your site to Google.

The second way is to add a meta tag to the code of the main page of your site. It will come in handy if you don't have FTP access.

Open the tab “ Alternative methods” and mark the first point. Then we do everything as written in the instructions and click “Confirm”.

To see an example of adding a meta tag, open the “Show example” tab by clicking on the triangle. You can add a meta tag from the blog admin area by opening the WordPress template file header.php in the editor (don’t forget to refresh the page).

This is how easy it is to add a site to Google Webmaster. You can add up to 1000 sites to one account. I wonder if anyone filled out their account to capacity?

Now, when you go to the Webmaster Tools panel, a list of all sites added to Google will be shown. By clicking on the site name, you will have access to information about blog indexing and various statistics. For example, the first page would show:

  • The 10 most popular search queries for which the site was shown in search,
  • scanning errors,
  • keywords,
  • links to the site,
  • Sitemap files.

Under each section there is a “More” button that allows you to see more data. Other tools can be found in the menu on the left. Below is the “Help” section. Its purpose, I hope, is clear.

In the menu section “ Site configuration” – “Scanner access“, you can check your robots.txt file, change it, or create a new one.

By the way, you must add a sitemap Sitemap.xml to the Google Webmaster panel. Read how to do this. Let me remind you that this helps speed up the indexing of the blog.

Carefully study all the tools for webmasters. Devote a few days to this. In the future, the time spent will fully pay off.

Now to add a new site to Google Webmasters Tools, proceed in the same way. That's all. I hope that newbies will find this information useful. I would be grateful if you click on the social media buttons below the article.

If you have not yet connected Webmaster Tools to your site, then the first thing you need to do is go to the Google Webmaster Tools site and log in to it using your Google account

, – preferably the one you are already using to connect to Google Analytics. Click on the red “Add site” button

Then you need to confirm your rights to the site. Previously, you had to paste a verification code into the header of your site or upload an HTML file to the server. Now, if you already have Google Analytics set up, you can connect your site to Webmaster Tools via Google Analytics. To do this, click on the “Alternative methods” button when choosing a method to confirm rights to the site. Then, select "Use Google Analytics Account".

Once your site has been verified, you'll likely want to upload a sitemap (if you have one). This is a simple XML file that tells Google Webmaster Tools what pages are on your site.

If you already have it, you can always view it by typing yourdomain/sitemap.xml in your browser. If you don't have a sitemap, you can use an online tool to create one. If you launched a website on your own domain using a WordPress distribution, you can install the Google XML Sitemaps plugin. After activating the plugin, look under Settings in WordPress in the XML-Sitemap section. Click the Click here link to create a sitemap for the first time.

After that, paste the part of the URL after your site domain into the add sitemap section in the Google panel.

It may take a few days for Webmaster Tools to begin processing your site information. Make sure you allow enough time to get all the information about your site into Webmaster Tools.

Valuable information from Google's webmaster dashboard

Once your data appears in Webmaster Tools, you will be able to view the following information about your site. This is just the basic data that can be found from the site panel and, at the same time, the most important information that needs to be checked from time to time.

Main window

When you open your site in the webmaster panel, first of all you are taken to the main window. Here you can see important data. You can open special areas such as Search Queries, Crawl Errors, Incoming Links, Top Keywords, and Site Map from this window by clicking the Learn More links. You can also go to these sections through the left sidebar menu.

In the Site Configuration section, you can find the following important information:

  • Settings

Here you can specify the geography of the site based on where most of the visits are from. The main domain with or without WWW, in any case . It is better not to touch the scanning frequency.

  • Site links

Site links are additional internal links that are displayed in search results. For example, if you Google , you'll see a list of their links plus six additional links to that blog.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to customize the pages that appear in these links. But if you absolutely do not want to see any of these pages in search results, then you can exclude it in the toolbar. We probably won’t go into the following points about URL parameters and others, as everything is clear.

Section "Optimization"

  • Sitemaps

Here you will find information related to your sitemap. If you notice that the sitemap you downloaded is not the latest version, you can update your sitemap information with the correct URL.

  • Keywords

This section will show you the keywords that Google thinks will be key indicators for your site. If they do not match what you want to show on your site, then such a service will show you how much you used a certain word on the site. You can click on each keyword and see why Google considers it important.

Section "Traffic"

This section includes important information about the search terms, keywords, and external links that drive traffic to your site.

  • Search queries

The Search queries section in the webmaster panel shows the main keywords for which your site appears in search results, as well as the ratio of impressions to clicks to the site, average position and ranking changes.

Why is this important now more than ever? Everything works out in such a way that the site’s display may not be related to keywords and such data is lost in Google Analytics. You can click on each search term and see which page of your site ranks well for a specific keyword or phrase. Pay attention to the CTR - the click-through rate of the title, to increase it, use it, they will attract attention in Google search.

  • Links to your site

Worried about incoming links? Webmaster Tools shows domains that link to pages on your site. This is perhaps the most comprehensive list of backlinks that you can find among other services, at least free ones.

Section "Status"

Since there is a lot of valuable information here, we will only look at the section that I check most often - Scanning Errors.

If your site has broken links, then this is not good. When you click Not Found, you'll see the pages on your site that trigger a 404 Not Found error and the number of internal links pointing to that page. If you have a lot of such pages, focus on redirecting the pages with the most incoming links.

Section "Laboratory"

Section of the panel where you can test data. Subject to these conditions, such data may change, stop working and disappear at any time. Now interesting data is shown by pages with author statistics when you link an article to your Google+ profile, I have already written instructions as Google.

There's also a site performance analysis section that can tell you how long your site is taking to load and point out some potentially problematic pages.

Google Analytics Integration

When the analytics system is installed, you will see even more information in the Google webmaster panel. It’s even difficult for you to imagine how much data you can find out about each visitor, right down to how they behave on the site and how much time they spend. I won’t describe the installation again here, because I’ve already written about adding Google Analytics if you haven’t done it yet, don’t put it off. If you have any questions, and most likely this will happen from so many graphs and diagrams, then read the guide to understand the basic points in working with analytics.

Are you using Webmaster Tools? What features do you think are most useful? Please leave your comments below and happy data analysis!
