How to make a tree in Photoshop. Create a family tree in Photoshop

As a bonus, we'll also add a new background. It's really easy, but few people know how to do it quickly. Many people have problems with cutting trees. This work takes a lot of time, they think.

First we need two sources:

Photo with a tree.

Photo for a new background.

Choose them yourself.

Open Photoshop and resize both images so they are the same width, we'll start working with the tree image.

Step 2

We will choose a tool that is rarely used: (Background Eraser Tool / E Key).

Step 3

At the top you need to change some settings:

1) Take a big one soft brush, I used a brush with a diameter 2013 px.

2) Change " Sampling"(Background sample) to " Contiguous"(Continuously).

3) Set " Limits"(Restrictions) to " Discontiguous"(All pixels).

4) « Tolerance"(Admission): 40 (we do this because the blue background has good contrast with the green leaves, if the contrast is not that high you will need to set it to " Tolerance" (Tolerance) below).

5) Check the box next to " Protect Foreground Color» ((Protect) Primary Color).

6) We've checked the Foreground color protection box, so we need to define the Foreground color; click on the square with the foreground color - the menu “ Color Picker» (Color Selection) Now use the eyedropper to highlight the middle tone of green on the tree.

This action will protect the selected color so it won't be erased later.

Step 4

Now the fun begins.

Because we are using a brush big size You can probably see a cross in the center of the brush, which is good because that's exactly what we need. Start clicking on the blue and you will see that color disappear, do the same with the other colors that are on the left (some white and other bright colors).

Check areas between leaves where spots are showing through blue color, remove them the same way.
All you have left is wood and grass. Below is the same tree, but on different backgrounds - black and white.

If you only wanted to carve the tree, congratulations! You did it!

I'll add a new background to this image as a bonus.

Step 5

Add the sky as a new layer below the tree layer.

If you look closely you will see some white lines around the leaves. So I'll show you how to get rid of them.

Step 6

In the layers palette, select the tree layer and right-click on it. A new menu will open, from which select (Blending Options). This action will open a new window.

All we need to do is change " Blend Mode» (Blend Mode) to (Darken) and press OK.

Step 7

We have some unwanted areas protruding from the grass. Just select your sky layer and carefully erase these areas.

Step 8

Now you can transform your image using a small soft (blur) and blur the edges of the grass and new sky (make sure you have the " Sample All Layers"(Sample - all layers) and so on.

There was nothing complicated. Good luck.

Final result

Translator: Alexandra Antsyperovich;

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a nature scene that is both organic and visually appealing.

We'll look at a few useful tips in the process of creating a striking natural scene that will show a helpless human being caught up in nature's powerful domination.

Final result

Step 1

We'll start by finding an image of the model that we'll use to create our composition. To search for images, I intend to use the iStock site. Sometimes it can be difficult to find the right image, but you should always have a general concept of the painting you will be creating because you need to find the right image for your work. I use an image of a man on his knees, looking up towards the light and with his arms spread to his sides. This image is good dramatic image, which is suitable for creating a dull surreal manipulation.

Before we get started, we will need to separate the man from the background. There are several ways to select objects using tools such as Eraser(Eraser), Magic wand(Magic Wand), or using a layer mask (Layer Masking), but I prefer the good old tool Feather(Pen Tool). Often young designers working digital art, are faced with the problem of using the tool Feather(Pen Tool), however, the only way to improve your skills is to practice.

Follow the outline of the body, continuing to create an outline around the man's figure until you have outlined the entire body, closing the created outline.

Once you have closed the path, right-click on the created path and in the menu that appears, select the option Create a selection area(Make Selection) and click OK.

Next, you should see a running dotted outline, which will indicate to you that the selection has become active. Let's go, Selection - Inversion(Select - Inverse) and press the delete key to remove the background of the image. Below the layer with the man, I specially created a layer that was filled with black so that you can clearly see the result. See screenshot below.

Step 2

Create a new document in Photoshop, 17 inches wide by 11 inches tall, at 300 dpi. The reason I use these big sizes, this is because I'm going to print my work and I can always reduce the size if necessary.

Once you've created a new document, double-click the background layer and click OK to unlock it, then double-click the layer again to bring up the settings window. Layer Styles(Layer Styles). Select an option Color overlay(Color Overlay), fill color #525252, is a medium shade of gray.

Move the selected image of the man onto our created document and close the original image of the man. You can save the selected image, but once you have transferred this image to a new document, then we will simply close the image. Press Ctrl +T to activate the tool Free Transformation(Free Transform), and then drag one of the squares that are located along the contour while holding down the Shift key to maintain the proportions of the image. We need to zoom in on the man so that he fills the central part of our composition, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 3

Select a tool Gradient(Gradient Tool (G), set the gradient color to #313131, as shown in the screenshot below:

In the top gradient settings panel, set the gradient type Radial(Radial) from black to transparent. Don't forget to check the box Inversion(Reverse).

Click in the center of the document and drag the gradient to the outer edge of the image. Once you have created the gradient, change the blending mode of the gradient layer to Multiplication(Multiply). The screenshot below shows the order of layers on this moment:

We're trying to create a sort of dramatic and moody backdrop to early stage, so that we can then focus on other parts of the composition, it's better to do this early on, rather than leaving such lighting work for later. We will return to the lighting and refine it further, but for now, this is what we got:

Translator's note: you can call this layer “gradient shading” or “edge shading.”

Step 4

Next, open the image with tree roots. We need to crop the image so that we can use the bottom half of the image. Top part The image is superfluous, all we really need are the roots, which we will place where the legs are, creating the illusion that the man is transforming and turning into a tree or being pulled into the ground. Press the C key to activate the tool Frame(Crop Tool) and then select the area shown in the screenshot below:

Once you have cropped the image, move it onto our document. Place the root layer on top of all layers and add a layer mask to the root layer. You can create a layer mask by clicking the button in the bottom settings panel in the layers palette; this button is circled in red, as shown in the screenshot below:

Now that we've applied a layer mask to the image layer, we can use a hard black brush to hide the areas we don't want. The most interesting thing is that if we get confused during processing or there is a need to restore part of the image, all we need to do is apply a white brush. On the other hand, if we use the tool Eraser(Eraser Tool) to simply delete the part of the image that we do not need, we will not be able to restore the deletion until we undo several actions.

Step 5

So, now you can use a layer mask to hide certain parts of the tree roots so that they are not visible. It will be easier if you temporarily reduce the opacity of the layer while working with the brush, so that you can see the figure of the man below the root layer.

Press Ctrl+T to activate the tool Free Transformation(Free Transform) and then right click on documents, when the dialog box appears, select the option Deformation(Warp). This option allows you to deform various points images, this way it will be easier for us to create the desired figure. We need to deform various points in order to give the shape and direction of the man's legs.

Once you are happy with the result and the direction of the roots, press Enter to apply the changes. Before we continue working with the layer mask, duplicate the roots layer by pressing Ctrl+J. Now we can work with the duplicate layer, you can turn off the visibility of the original layer, which is located below.

So, continue with the layer mask and hide the areas where the leaves are present using a soft brush with a low opacity (20-30%) to blend the wood texture with the middle part of the man's body.

Zoom in and continue working with the layer mask, hiding some areas of the roots that we may not need. Don't forget that we have the original layer that we can make copies of if we want to use different areas of the image that we may not need at the moment.

Step 6

Without removing the selection, press Ctrl+J to duplicate the selection onto a new layer. Once you've done this, press Ctrl+T and then right-click on the image. When the dialog box appears, select the option ReflectByhorizontal(Flip Horizontally) and press Enter. It is also necessary to slightly rotate the image upward so that the branch follows the curve of the man’s body. Apply the transformation again so that the branch looks like the screenshot below:

Apply the option again Deformation(Warp), as we did earlier, and once again deform the shape and direction of the branch.

Notice where the branch overlaps the man's body? All we have to do here is add a layer mask to the twig layer by clicking the button in the bottom options bar in the layers palette, and then use a black brush to hide/cut off the excess parts of the twig. Try to make the branch look natural, as if it bends a little behind the back.

Step 7

Now we need to repeat the same process of adding part of the twig, but on the other side. Using a tool Lasso Lasso Tool (L), create another selection of the twig.

Without removing the selection, press Ctrl+J again to paste the selection onto a new layer. As soon as you do this, you will notice that the layer mask will disappear and areas that were previously hidden will appear. To fix this, hold down Ctrl + left-click on the layer thumbnail with the twig part to load a selection.

Make sure you are on the duplicated layer, then add a layer mask by clicking the button in the bottom settings panel in the layers palette.

So, we will get a clear image of the selected branch, which will definitely save some time. Next, we will once again apply the horizontal reflection option, and also rotate the image so that the direction of our branch coincides with the direction of the original branch. Using a soft black brush with an opacity of 20-30%, hide the extra parts of the branch that overlap the original branch. Use a hard brush with 100% opacity where you want sharper edges.

Notice how the lower part of the branch goes behind the leg. Once you are happy with the location and appearance twigs, combine the layers with twigs with the main layer with roots. Hold Shift+select all layers and then press Ctrl+E to merge them together.

If at this moment you are still with me, then you already know how to select objects, how to apply transformation and how to work with layer masks. Let's see what we've got so far:

Step 8

To duplicate a layer, hold the left mouse button on the layer + drag it to the icon in the lower settings panel Create New Layer(New Layer) or press Ctrl + J. After that, turn off the visibility of the original layer. You should have the original image with roots plus two more copies.

Right-click on the layer mask of the layer we just created and then select the option Delete layer mask(Delete Layer Mask). So you should see this:

So, very good because we can select other parts of the image or other parts of the branches.

Step 9

Reduce the opacity of the duplicate layer to around 58-60% so that you can see image after image. Add a layer mask by clicking the button in the bottom settings panel in the Layers palette. Move the image a little so that the hollow part of the tree is level with the man's midsection.

So, we can use a black brush on the layer mask to remove unnecessary areas of the image. Remove unnecessary areas of the image with the exception of the chest area.

This part of the job can be a little tedious, but we need to get rid of the areas between the leaves. To do this, you can simply zoom in and use a small black brush with 100% opacity. We need to chisel/hollow out the tree trunk because we need an area where the bottom layer with roots can be seen.

Step 10

Using a tool Feather(Pen Tool), create a selection of the inside of the middle area of the body. Fill the created selection with black using the tool Fill(Paint Bucket Tool (G) after you close the path and activate the selection.

Translator's note: Don't forget to create a new layer to create the inside of the middle area of the body.

Open a new image with roots in Photoshop, moving this image to our document. Activate Free transformation(Free Transform (Ctrl+T), and then right-click on the image, in the window that appears, select the option ReflectByverticals(Flip Vertically). Press Enter to accept the changes, then reduce the layer's opacity. Rotate the image a little and try to find a suitable part for the inner body area.

Place this layer on top of the layer with the previously created selection, which we filled with black.

Next, right-click on the root layer that we just moved to our document. In the window that appears, select the option Create Clipping Mask(Create Clipping Mask).

Once you do this, you will notice an arrow icon, which will mean that we have converted the layer to a clipping mask.

The result should look like the screenshot below:

Another advantage of this action is that we can further move the image with the roots, and we will only see what is within the created area. Before continuing, reduce the opacity of this layer to about 60%.

Step 11

Select the color #4c3c39, create a new layer on top of the previous layer, change the mode for the new layer to Multiplication(Multiply). Next, hold down Ctrl + click on the black shape thumbnail we created earlier to activate the selection. Standing on a new layer, start painting with a soft round brush at about 20% opacity. Paint around the edges to create gradual shading, as shown in the screenshot below:

Translator's note: Next, the author will rename the shading layer to “shadow”.

This will help create a smooth shadow, which will give a sense of depth.

Step 12

Load a vector image of a tree and rotate the tree so that the branches are directed diagonally across the body, as shown in the screenshot below:

With the man's layer still selected (make sure the layer is selected), press Ctrl + J. You won't notice anything right away, then we need to turn off the visibility of the layer with vector image tree. Also, the layer we just created by duplicating the selection onto a new layer needs to be placed on top of the shadow layer. In the screenshot below, I've lowered the opacity of the man's layer so you can see what's happening:

Translator's note: 1) the author turns off the visibility of the vector image of the tree, but we will still need this image in Step 15.
2) the author specially reduced the opacity of the layer with the man so that you can clearly see the result of this action.

I'm going to repeat this step again, just moving the tree vector image a little. The idea is to create a bunch or cluster of branches in the rib area so that we can hide some of the original man layer in that area so that the branches above can be seen.

Step 13

Hold Ctrl+click on the man's layer thumbnail to load a selection around the man's body. Then, being on the wood texture layer + add a layer mask to this layer.

Select a soft round brush with a black color and an opacity of about 20%. Brush on the layer mask around the edges of the texture to blend the texture into the skin.

Go to the wood texture layer mask, using the same black brush with low opacity, paint the middle part of the body so that this part looks flatter and deeper. This will also add more depth to the image.

Step 14

Now we will repeat some of the steps that we carried out earlier, i.e. Duplicate the image with the roots of the tree, flip it horizontally and add a layer mask to the duplicate layer to remove unnecessary areas.

Translator's note: in the first steps of the lesson, the author deformed the roots by positioning / covering left side men, in this step, the author repeats the entire process, positioning the roots so that they cover right side men.

After experimenting with the placement of the tree root image, I found a great place for the roots to go while replacing the foliage. This makes the middle area flatter instead of completely covering that area.

Step 15

Now, we will once again use vector images of trees, although this time we will apply them to the hand. Duplicate the tree vector layer and rotate the duplicate slightly so that there are more branches. Once you're happy with the arrangement, select these two layers and then press Ctrl + E to merge them together.

Hold down the Ctrl + key and click on the merged layer with vector trees. Once you have loaded the selection, without deselecting it, go to the man's layer and then press Ctrl + J to duplicate the branches selection to a new layer. Turn off the visibility of the merged vector trees layer and move the created copy to the top so that this layer is on top of the other layers. Once you have done this, you can paint the arm on a layer mask to show the branches.

Translator's note: You can simultaneously use the wood rubbing technique, as the author describes in Step 12, and you can also make a copy of the merged layer with vector trees, which will be useful later when we process the opposite hand. HoldingCtrl+ click on the thumbnail of the layer with the man, while being on the layer with vector trees, to load a selection, then add a layer mask to the layer with vector trees and then paint on the layer mask with a black brush.

Duplicate the wood texture layer, remove the layer mask by clicking on the layer mask thumbnail in the menu that appears, select the option Delete layer mask(Delete Layer Mask). Leave the same blending mode for this layer Multiplication(Multiply).

Translator's note: The author uses the texture layer that we applied earlier to the middle part of the man's body.

Hold down Ctrl+click on the man's layer thumbnail again to load a selection, and then add a layer mask while still on the wood texture layer. Using a layer mask, we will hide areas of the texture that went beyond the boundaries of the man’s body. Select a soft round black brush with low opacity and paint the texture as we did earlier. Try to match the wood texture with the leather, as shown in the screenshot below:

When you are happy with the result, duplicate the layer to enhance the effect. You can also lower the opacity of the duplicated layer a little to soften the effect slightly while still maintaining it.

Repeat the same process for the opposite hand. Use a layer with a vector image of a tree, then duplicate the layer with the man and using a layer mask and a brush, process the hand so that the branches appear. After that, apply another wood texture, add a layer mask and use a brush with low opacity to create a smooth transition with the skin.

Step 16

Next, go to the layer with the man and paint with a black brush on the layer mask the lower part of the body, which is located under the roots of the tree. We will hide the man's legs, making it look like tree roots have replaced the man's lower body.

Duplicate the original layer with the roots of the tree, the visibility of which we have turned off, and then flip the duplicate layer vertically and horizontally so that the image with the roots looks like in the screenshot below:

To the duplicate layer, add a soy mask, and using a black brush, hide the roots located outside the outer border of the man's body, so the roots of the tree will only be visible on the man's body. From this point on, you need to concentrate on aligning the roots of the tree with the body to get interesting results.

Step 17

Go to the topmost layer in the Layers palette and then click Create an adjustment layer or fill layer(Adjustment Layer) in the bottom settings panel. When the dialog box appears, select the option Hue/Saturation(Hue/Saturation).

Move the slider in settings Saturation(Saturation) all the way to the left to completely desaturate the image. Next, hold down Ctrl + click on the man's layer thumbnail to load a selection around the man. Next, let's go Selection- Inversion(Select - Inverse) to invert the selection.

Next, select a tool Fill(Paint Bucket Tool (G) and fill the layer mask of the adjustment layer Hue/Saturation(Hue/Saturation) in solid black, this action will hide all of the adjustment layer's effect except the man's selection; the effect will only be visible within the man's selection.

So we can switch to the brush, select a soft round black brush with low opacity. We need to paint only certain areas of the body. Concentrate mainly on the face, palms, and certain areas of the arms and chest. In the screenshot below, you can see before and after applying the adjustment layer Hue/Saturation(Hue/Saturation).

Step 18

Select a tool Fill(Paint Bucket) and set the color to #231B1C.

Create a new layer and place it on top of the background layer. Select a tool Rectangular area(Marquee Tool (M), next, create a rectangular selection, this rectangular selection will serve as the ground for us. Once you have created a selection, fill the created selection with the tool Fill(Paint Bucket).

Create another new layer on top of the created layer, which serves as our ground. Set the color to #4D6852 and start painting the tall grass behind the tree.

Translator's note: you can call this layer “background grass”.

Create another new layer, position it below the top adjustment layer Hue/Saturation(Hue/Saturation) and additionally draw some grass. Remember to change the brush size using the “[“ “]” hotkey, focusing on filling in the dark areas between the roots of the tree in the foreground.

Translator's note: you can name this layer “foreground grass”.

Add a layer mask to the grass layer by clicking the button in the lower settings panel Add a layer mask(Add a Layer Mask) layers palette. And on the layer mask, using a black brush, start painting over some areas of the tree roots, where the grass overlaps the roots when we used the Grass brushes. The idea is to have certain areas of grass grow as if behind the roots of a tree, as shown below:

Step 19

Duplicate the 'shaded edges' layer that we created earlier in Step 3. We need to place one layer with shaded edges on top of the grass layer, and a second layer with shaded edges below the grass layer, as shown in the screenshot below:

Next, go to the grass layer that we drew behind the tree in the background. Add a layer mask to this layer and on the layer mask paint around the edges using a soft round black brush with low opacity. This will help create a smooth shading of the grass in the background.

Step 20

Create a new layer below the adjustment layer Hue/Saturation(Hue/Saturation), name this layer Retouching(Airbrushing), as shown in the screenshot below:

Translator's note: retouch each part of the tree separately.

Change the blending mode for the retouch layer to Multiplication(Multiply), select a soft round brush with a low opacity of 10-20%, use an eyedropper to select samples dark shades and paint each with a brush separate part with active release. Loading a selection will ensure that the brush doesn't go outside the boundaries when painting!

We will create the same effect if we used the tool Dimmer(Burn Tool (O), this will help us create high contrast in the image.

Step 21

Next, open the Smoke texture from the link at the beginning of the lesson and load this texture onto our document. Using a tool Free Transformation(Free Transform (Ctrl+T), scale the texture according to the size of our document, while scaling, hold down the Shift key to maintain the proportions.

In the screenshot below, note where it is located Layer 13(Layer 13) in the layers palette - between two layers with darkened edges. Change the blending mode of the texture layer to Overlap(Overlay) and reduce the layer opacity to about 70%:

Create a new layer on top of the smoke texture layer. Next, select a tool Gradient(Gradient Tool (G), set the gradient color from black to transparent, gradient type Linear Gradient(Linear Gradient). Draw a gradient to shade the texture as shown in the screenshot below:

This will help create smooth shading, because... we want the texture of the smoke to look subtle, creating a sense of fog in the background. Do the same for the top left and bottom right corners, doing this on separate new layers, starting to drag the gradient outside the document at the top of the image. Reduce the opacity of these layers a little so that the black is not solid or too harsh.

Step 22

Go to the gradient color settings palette and set the following color shades for the tool Gradient(Gradient Tool):

For the pale purple-grey shade I used #707073 and for the pale pink shade I used #A0777A. Create a new layer on top of the black gradient layers that were used to shade the image and click somewhere in the center of the document + drag the gradient to the top. Once you have created Linear Gradient(Linear Gradient), change the blending mode for this layer to Chroma(Color), you should get something like the screenshot below:

Next, add a layer mask to this linear gradient layer. Set the gradient color from black to white. Pull the gradient from top to bottom to hide the pale pink tint, so the only color that remains is a purple-gray tint. This shade goes well with gray tint texture with smoke.

Step 23

Next, create a new layer below the man's layer. What we want to do is make the background behind the man darker - because we have a light area in the center of the image, and we can't tell that there are certain areas of the body where the bark shows through and where the transition into the branches occurs. On a new layer, we can paint with a 100% hard black brush to fill in some of those gaps. The screenshot below shows the image first when the visibility of this layer is turned on, and then the second screenshot shows the image when the visibility of this layer is turned off.

Dark background layer enabled:

The dark background layer is disabled:

You may notice that this helps bring out some details that have started to get lost.

Step 24

Go to the topmost layer. In the lower settings panel, click the button Create a new adjustment layer or fill layer(Create a new Adjustment Layer), in the window that appears, select the option Levels(Levels).

Move the slider a little to the right, setting the value to 6, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 25

Next, let's go Image - Canvas Size(Image - Canvas Size). Click the bottom arrow to resize only the top portion of the image. Practically, due to this action, we add additional space at the top of the image, only to the top, the bottom part will remain unchanged.

Add 3 inches in height, so the canvas height is 14 inches, then press Enter. You will notice that some layers have retained their proportions, but this can be quickly fixed.

Step 26

As a final touch to our work, I want to add some forest atmosphere and detail to the background. Presumably our scene should be a forest, specifically a forest in the fog. Therefore, create a new layer on top of the smoke layer and use the tool Rectangular area(Marquee Tool (M), create a vertical selection. Fill the selection dark color, take a sample of the shade in the background using the tool Fill(Paint Bucket Tool (G) and then reduce the layer opacity to about 30%.

Duplicate this layer several times and distribute the vertical shapes in the background, creating a forest atmosphere. Apply to some shapes Free transformation(Free Transform (Ctrl +T) so that the widths of the shapes are different from each other. This will help create a sense of depth and show some of the trees in the distance, giving our scene an even more sense of drama and darkness.

Once you've done this and you're happy with the end result, don't forget to save your work. I hope you learned a lot of useful things today this lesson creating a breathtaking nature scene in Photoshop using just a few images and some helpful techniques. Thanks for your time and good luck!

You can see the final result below. I hope you liked the lesson, I would like to hear your feedback on the execution technique and the result.

Family tree is an extensive list of family members and (or) other people who are related by family or spiritual ties.

There are several options for compiling a tree, and they all have special cases. Today we will talk briefly about them and draw a simple family tree in Photoshop.

Let's talk about options first. There are two of them:

Creating a family tree in Photoshop consists of three stages.

  1. Collecting information about ancestors and relatives. It is advisable to find a photograph and, if known, years of life.
  2. Drawing up a pedigree chart. At this stage, you need to decide on an option.
  3. Decoration.

Collection of information

It all depends on how reverently you and your family treat the memory of your ancestors. Information can be obtained from grandmothers, or better yet, from great-grandmothers and other relatives of respectable age. If it is known that an ancestor held a position or served in the army, then you may have to make a request to the appropriate archive.

Family tree diagram

Many people neglect this stage, since a simple pedigree (father-mother-me) does not require a long search. In the same case, if you plan to create a branched tree with a large depth of generations, then it is better to draw up a diagram and gradually add information there.

Above you have already seen an example of a schematic representation of a pedigree.

Some tips:

  1. Create the first element of the circuit using the tool "Rectangle with rounded corners".

  2. Take the tool "Horizontal text" and place the cursor inside the rectangle.

    Create the required inscription.

  3. Select both newly created layers while holding down the key CTRL, and then put them into a group by clicking CTRL+G. Let's call the group "I".

  4. Choosing a tool "Move", select the group, hold down the key ALT and drag it across the canvas in any direction. This action will automatically create a copy.

  5. In the resulting copy of the group, you can change the inscription, color and size ( CTRL+T) rectangle.

  6. Arrows can be created in any way. The most convenient and fastest of them is to use the tool « Free figure» . The standard set has a neat arrow.

  7. The created arrows will need to be rotated. After the call "Free Transformation" must be clamped SHIFT so that the element rotates by an angle that is a multiple of 15 degrees.

This was the basic information on creating family tree diagram elements in Photoshop. Next comes the design stage.

Decoration

To design a pedigree, you can choose two ways: draw your own background, frames and ribbons for text, or find a ready-made PSD template on the Internet. We will go the second way.

  1. The first step is to find a suitable picture. This is done with a query in a search engine like « family tree PSD template" without quotes.

In the process of preparing for the lesson, several sources were found. We'll stop here:

  2. Open it in Photoshop and look at the layers palette.

  3. Select (by clicking) the layer with the text, for example, "I".

Then we look for the elements corresponding to it - the frame and the ribbon. The search is performed by turning visibility off and on.

After the tape is found, clamp it CTRL and click on this layer.

Both layers are selected. In the same way we look for a frame.

Now press the keyboard shortcut CTRL+G, grouping layers.

We repeat the procedure with all elements.

For even greater order, let's give all the groups names.

Working with such a palette is much more convenient and faster.

  4. Place a photo in the work area, expand the corresponding group and move the photo there. We make sure that the photo is the lowest in the group.

  5. Using free transformation" ( CTRL+T) adjust the size of the image with the child to fit the frame.

  6. Use a regular eraser to erase the excess areas.

  7. Using the same method, we place photographs of all relatives in the template.

This completes the lesson on how to create a family tree in Photoshop. Take this work seriously if you plan to compile a pedigree of your family.

Do not neglect preparatory work, such as preliminary drawing of the diagram. Selection decoration is also a task that requires a responsible approach. The colors and styles of elements and backgrounds should reflect the character and atmosphere of the family as clearly as possible.

In this tutorial I will explain how to create your own shape brushes and how to use them. These brushes will save you a lot of time when painting trees, bushes and grass.
I used Photoshop CS5 and a Wacom Cintiq graphics tablet. You can use any other tablet to be able to control the pen pressure.
Let's create something beautiful!

Final result:

Step 1. The first thing we have to do is create a new document; I usually make it about 500 by 500 pixels with a resolution of 300 dpi, so that later the brush does not become pixelated when it is enlarged when we work with a large image.

We will create a brush for painting leaves - a brush in the shape of a maple leaf, with its help we can quickly and easily create beautiful foliage. To get started, just take any standard Photoshop brush and start drawing the contours of the figure, in this case maple leaf.

Step 2. Now we need to add some depth to the brush.
I created a new layer and painted the veins using Chalk brushes(Chalk).
Use a white brush with 50% opacity to paint the lighter areas.

Step 4. You'll notice that the brush you just created appears at the very bottom of the list of brushes. Now we must select this brush from the list and open Brushes panel - F5. This will open the brush settings, which you can change as you wish.

Step 5. The default brush settings don't allow you to control or change your strokes, so the first thing we need to do is adjust pen sensitivity, do it in the menu Different dynamics(Other Dynamics) or Transfer in Photoshop CS5.

note: This setting will only work correctly when using a graphics tablet.

Install Transparency fluctuation(Opacity Jitter) 50% and make sure that this setting will be adjusted by pen pressure. To create brush direction changes and adjustments, select Dynamics of shape(Shape Dynamics).

Step 6. Size fluctuation(Size Jitter) - 100%, control - pen pressure. Please note, control for setting Angle fluctuation(Angle Jitter) installed Initial direction(Initial Direction), and for Circle oscillation(Roundness Jitter) - Pen tilt (Pen tilit), MinimumRoundness - 25%.

Step 7 The last setting before using the brush is Setting the Brush Shape(Brush Tip Shape) where I set Interval(Spacing) 70% to separate brush marks from each other.

Step 8 Now we know where to find the brush settings, we can easily try them out and try changing the values and settings.

Step 9 Okay, we've set up the brush and now we need to save these settings. This is very important, because when you select another brush, all your settings will be lost, and this way you can apply them to other curly brushes. Again press F5, open the brush settings window, and select from the pop-up menu New Brush(New Brush Preset) and call it. Now the previously created brush will be saved with the new settings you applied and will be at the bottom of the list of brushes.

Step 10 The next steps will be quick and will summarize what we just did. I'm going to create another Maple Leaf by simply changing the shape of the shape. First, erase the petiole of the leaf, then go to the menu Select> Select All (Select> All) and then in Edit>Transform>Distort(Edit > Transform > Warp).

Step 11 By selecting a point and dragging it, you can shape and distort the shape of the leaf as shown in the image below.

Step 12 You can also drag anywhere inside the grid, the shape of the sheet will change. After editing the sheet, press Enter to confirm the edit.

Step 13 After applying all the necessary settings for the brush, such as Shape Dynamics and Other Dynamics, I ran the brush over the working document and was happy with the way our brush painted.
The illustration below represents full image, created only with new shaped brushes.

Freely place elements around with the new shaped brushes, use your imagination and creativity to create trees, bushes, grass or even entire landscapes.

Step 14 Save the brush with the new settings as we did in the previous steps and it will be added to your list. Now we have two types maple leaves, both saved with the settings we gave them. There is an arrow in the list of brushes in the upper right corner. Click on it and select Save brushes(Save Brushes), designate your own list of brushes, they will always be stored with you and you can use them at any time.

Step 15 We have come to the end of the lesson. This may all seem difficult, but try making your own brushes and you will realize that it is not so.
Don't be afraid to experiment. Curly brushes are very helpful in the work. Drawing them takes time and peace of mind, but in the end you'll be happy knowing that you can speed up the digital painting process in a ton of ways.

Good luck on your journey through the world of digital painting!

This shows an example of creating a wonderful surreal treehouse using painting techniques and combining different photographs and textures. You will learn how to easily draw a tree thanks to non-standard settings brushes, in addition you will learn how to create clouds and much, much more. All this awaits you in this Photoshop tutorial!

Resources:

Step 1

Create a new document (Ctrl + N) sized 1024 px in width and 1280 px in height:

Step 2

First, let's create a tree. Select the brush and press F5 to open the settings panel. In the settings, set the hardness to maximum, then in the Shape Dynamics, Scattering and Color Dynamics sections set the same parameters as shown below:

Step 3

Now you need to choose the color for the foreground and background. Foreground color is #fabc22 and background color is #fabc22. Set the brush size to 150 pixels. Try drawing something. If you did everything correctly, your result should be similar to the example below:

Step 4

On different layers draw several options for stems. In the next step we will combine them, assembling them into one whole tree. When you draw, try changing the strength of the Control Fade parameter in the Shape Dynamics section. After some trial and error, I finally managed to draw a few shapes:

Step 5

Now you need to connect all these figures into one whole. The first thing I decided to do was create a barrel. At the bottom I placed the figure stem 1, a little higher I placed stem 2, stem3 and stem 4. (See the example below):

Step 6

When the trunk was ready, I began adding branches until I got the finished shape:

Step 7

When you're done, merge the previously created layers to create a separate tree layer. Then select Filter>Render>Lightning, and set the parameters as shown below:

Step 8

In this step we will add shadows to the tree to make it three-dimensional. The Burn Tool is ideal for this purpose. From the toolbar, select Burn Tool. At the top of the tool settings, set the Range option to Highlight, and set the Exposure option to 10%. Give the tool very soft edges.

Try painting on some areas of the tree and you will notice how the shadows appear. The picture below shows an example of where it is best to create shading:

Step 9

After this, you need to apply a gradient to the tree. Create a Gradient adjustment layer... Create the same gradient as shown below. After this, do not forget to create a clipping mask for the gradient, which allows you to apply the gradient not to all layers, but only to the tree layer. To create a clipping mask, right-click on the name of the gradient layer and select Clipping mask from the list that opens. Set the layer opacity to 60%. Press Ctrl + E to merge everything into one. The whole tree is ready!

Step 10

Create a new document with a white background and a size of 1024 pixels in width by 1686 pixels in height. After that, create a new layer.

For the foreground color use #9db1fc and for the background color #6ca5f8. Activate the Gradient Tool and fill the document with it to create a background:

Step 11

Create another new document with a white background measuring 1024 px in width and 731 px in height. For the foreground choose color #92a8fb and for the background choose simply White color. Select Filter > Render > Cloud and click OK. Using the Lasso Tool, create a selection shaped like a cloud. Once selected, press Shift + F6 to open the Feather Selection menu. Set the Feather Radius to 100 px. Then press Ctrl + J to duplicate the selection into a new separate layer. Hide the background layer by clicking on the eye icon. If you did everything correctly, the result should be similar to the example below:

Step 12

Add this cloud to the document created in step 10. To make the cloud more realistic, change the blending mode to Soft Light. Then press Ctrl + T to activate the Free Transform Tool and distort the shape of the cloud as shown below:

Step 13

To completely complete work on the clouds you need:

  1. Place the previously created cloud in the desired location.
  2. Make several copies of the cloud (Ctrl+J). Using the Move Tool (M), position the layers where necessary. Use the Free Transform tool to scale or flip duplicated layers. Try playing with different blending modes for each individual layer.
  3. Try distorting the shape of the clouds using the Free Transform tool.
  4. Select all cloud layers and press Ctrl + G to group them.

Step 14

Duplicate this group. For the duplicated group, set the blending mode to Soft Light and the opacity to 100%. Lower the duplicated group below the original one. Below is an example of what happened after all the manipulations:

Step 15

Then please do the following:

  1. Place the created tree on this canvas.
  2. Duplicate the tree layer. Then reduce the size of the duplicated tree, expand it horizontally and place it as shown in the figure below. Place this layer with a smaller copy of the tree under the original tree.
  3. Then create another duplicate and place it as shown below.
  4. Duplicate the layer again and position the trees as shown below. Don't forget to arrange the layers so as to hide the joints. Remember that these bushes must overlap the main trunk. Merge these layers with bushes into one.

Step 16

Open the Tree Houses image. Separate the house from the background. You can use the Pen Tool for this. Activate the Pen Tool and select the outlines of the house. When you get a closed selection, right-click and in the list that appears, the line Make Selection. Press Shift + Ctrl + I to invert the selection and press the Delete key to remove the background:

Step 17

There are still several unnecessary objects that need to be disposed of. Look at the picture below, the places that need to be hidden are marked in red. Clone some areas. Erase the tree that regenerates the stairs. Then, using the Clone Tool, “complete” the staircase, and also hide some sections. Then activate the Crop tool and crop the bottom part:

Step 18

I also decided to complete the balcony. This can be done using a selection and the Free Transform tool. For example, try selecting a part of the stairs, copying this selection to a separate layer and using the Free Transform tool to adjust the position. Don't forget to combine all these layers with parts from the house into one:

Step 19

Add the hut to the main canvas. Adjust the size and hide some parts using a mask:

Step 20

Duplicate the hut layer four times. Place the copies approximately as shown below:

Step 21

Now let's add other trees to hide the seams from the houses and add realism. Open the Bonsai Tree image and first of all, separate the trees from the background. I did this using a color range. Duplicate the trees layer and hide the original layer by clicking on the eye icon. Go to Select > Color Range and click on the white area of the sky. In the Color Range settings, set the Fuzziness value to 145 to create more contrast between black and white. Click OK. You will see a selection appear. If everything is done correctly, the sky should stand out. Click Delete to remove the background.

Step 22

Now add these trees to the main canvas. Arrange them and hide unnecessary parts using a mask:

Step 23

Duplicate the tree layer and place it as you see fit:

Step 24

Step 25

Don't forget to do this for all houses:

Step 26

After all the manipulations done, I got the following result:

Step 27

Apply a mask to the tree and hide some parts as shown below:

Step 28

Now you can add a person to the scene. Open the Model image. Separate the girl from the background:

Step 29

Drag the girl onto the main canvas and place her at the bottom near one of the houses. Activate the Smudge Tool. Set the tool settings to soft edges and small size. Also set the Srength parameter to 60%. Smear the edges of your hair to make it look disheveled. Then select the lamp and copy it twice. The same lamp can be added for each hut:

Step 30

In this step we will add three adjustment layers: Gradient, Photo Filter and Vibrance. Below you can see how to configure each layer.

When you're done with the settings, select the first gradient layer and change its Blending Mode to Soft Light and Opacity to 28%. For the second gradient, change only the Opacity to 27%. Set the photo filter transparency to 70%:

Step 31

Press Shift + Ctrl + Alt + E to merge all layers into one. Then press Ctrl + J to make a copy. I named this layer green:

Step 32

Select Filter > Render > Lightning and configure the filter as shown below:

Step 33

Apply a mask to this layer. Using a soft round brush with 20% opacity, erase the central part. Then set the opacity of this layer to 80%. Make a duplicate of the layer and change its blending mode to Soft Light and set its opacity to 80%:

Step 34

Open the last image called Nebula and add it to the main canvas. Place the layer with this image above the sky layers. Change the blending mode to Multiply:

Step 35

The result turned out a little dark so I decided to make it more contrasting. At the very top, create a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer and adjust it:

Step 36

Then you can add another Selective Color adjustment layer:

Step 37

The atmosphere still looks kind of boring. I decided to make the image even brighter. Duplicate the stars layer and place it at the very top. Change its Blending Mode to Soft Light and Opacity to 80%. Apply a mask to it and erase the central part in the tree area:

Step 38

At this step we will add light to the lamps, and also highlight some areas of the trees. Create a new layer (Shift + Ctrl + N). Fill it with black (Shift + F5) and change its Blending Mode to Color Dodge. First highlight the lower parts of the trees. Select white color, activate the brush and change its opacity to 5. Now just paint in the desired ones (see picture below). Then make lighting for the lamps. For the foreground, select the color #fcb004 and paint directly over the lamps. As you go, try changing the color from #fcb004, #fe9024 to plain white to get the best result.

Step 39

On last stage You can clear some areas of leaves and darken the edges. Create a new layer. To paint over the leaves, use a similar color from the shadow. Use a soft brush with an opacity of 20-40%. Then you can darken the edges of the scene. You can also use the Blur Tool to blur the background.

That's all for today. Thank you for reading this Photoshop tutorial. I hope it was helpful.
