All types of Nerf guns, which are commonly called N-guns, fire special cartridges made of foam material, light and non-traumatic. Parker Brothers, known as the creator of the popular board games Monopoly and Cluedo, began producing the first blasters in 1989. The company has been producing light and safe balls for indoor use since 1970. Now the Nerf brand is owned by Hasbro.

High quality, reliability and safety are the main distinguishing features, which is why this toy weapon is loved by young shooters and their parents.

Blaster - the weapon of the future

It's hard to imagine that wars in outer space will be fought with the help of Winchesters or Colts. The brave spacemen used mysterious blasters, that is, weapons of the future. By calling the new toy a “cosmic” term, the designers freed their hands, and they had plenty of imagination. Small arms with a barrel, butt, trigger and other elements have turned into an outlandish tool for fighting monsters, zombies and other cosmic evil spirits. Bizarre shapes and bright, “acid” colors do not allow the toy to be mistaken for a real weapon even from a distance.

Operating principle

  • All parts of the blaster are made of high-quality plastic.
  • The shooting principle is conventional pneumatics.
  • Special charges made of weightless polyurethane with hollow rubber tips are loaded into the magazine. The standard magazine holds 12 rounds. The company's arsenal includes magazines with an increased number of charges.
  • Pneumatic weapons are reloaded by jerking the charge.
  • The firing range depends on the model, usually 5-10 meters.
  • If the charge is skewed during reloading, you need to remove the magazine, open a special hatch, remove the charge manually and reinsert it in the correct position.

When a charge hits unprotected parts of the body at close range, pain is felt, but injury is almost impossible. There are no traces of “bullets” left on the walls and furniture. Playing war games using Nerf blasters is interesting for children and adults. A reliable pneumatic mechanism guarantees the durability of the toy weapon. It is quite difficult to disable it. The main problem in playing with blasters is to ensure a solid supply of charges. Soft “bullets” are quickly consumed during military operations, and to replenish the supply, a temporary truce will need to be declared.

Boys of all ages love blasters. This is why there is no upper limit to the recommended age for Nerf blasters. The lower limit for each blaster is indicated in the product card.
For most episodes this is 8+. But there are series exceptions to the rules. For example, the Rival series blasters are designed for teenagers and even adult nerfers. Projectiles - balls are denser and have a high speed when launched, which is why the recommended age is from 14 years.
But preschoolers were not left out either. The new Nerf Nitro series of blasters that shoot small racing cars are easy to use and designed for children aged five and up.
Many Super Soaker water blasters have a recommended age of 6-7 years.
All Nerf blasters are safe and use soft ammo, but whether a blaster is right for your child is up to you to decide.
And if you still decide to purchase a blaster for a child under the recommended age, then you also need to pay attention to the weight of the blaster and ease of use. Some large automatic blasters are easier to use than the compact mechanical blaster models. All these parameters are in the blaster description and can be analyzed to make a decision.

How different is the firing range of Nerf blasters?

The average firing range for Nerf blasters varies by series, for example in the N-Strike series, blasters had a range of up to 20 meters, but the introduction of the N-Strike Elite series increased the range to 22 meters!

If you're looking for blasters with even greater range, check out the Mega series blasters. The range of blasters in the series is 27 meters.
It's worth noting that all of these ranges are stated by Nerf and may actually vary slightly as weather conditions and other factors can affect firing range.

How can I get maximum range from my blaster?

First of all, keep in mind that each blaster has its own “job”. There are blasters for close combat, there are blasters that provide amazing rates of fire, excellent range.

First of all, decide which category your blaster belongs to. Perhaps range is not his strong point.
What can still be done?

  1. When shooting, aim the blaster at an angle of 35-40 degrees.
  2. Make sure the lowest point of the blaster is at least 120 cm from the ground.
  3. Do not forget about external factors that can affect the range (wind strength and direction, rain, snow, etc.).
  4. Check the condition of the arrows. They must be free of creases and dents.
  5. If you want to achieve the maximum range of an automatic blaster, be sure to install new batteries.

How to understand the variety of Nerf arrows?

While there are a ton of varieties of Nerf arrows, there really aren't that many basic types of ammo. These include standard sized arrows (suitable for most blasters and series), larger sized arrows (for Mega series blasters), high density balls (for Rival series blasters), rockets and darts. But if you want to use darts and rockets, keep in mind that to do this you will need a certain type of blaster that fires these ammunition. In fact, most Nerf blasters, crossbows and bows fire standard arrows. Almost all blasters of the N-Strike, Zombie Strike, Doomlands 2169, Modulus series use standard Nerf arrows. There are many varieties of standard sized arrows: decorated, glow in the dark, with suction cups, with Velcro, Accustrike. Arrows with suction cups simply have the ability to stick to any smooth surface; decorated arrows have different colors and prints. Decorated arrows are easy to identify and collect after a fight. Luminous - look very impressive in low light or in the dark. Accustrike series arrows have a specially designed “rifled” tip for more accurate shooting.

Do Nerf blasters require batteries?

Most Nerf blasters do not require any batteries since they are mechanical, but there are exceptions - automatic and semi-automatic blasters. They have a motor powered by batteries. On each product card, you will find the blaster type, quantity and (if necessary) type of batteries required.
In addition, there are several mechanical Nerf blasters that require batteries to power the modules or simply - the backlight. You can shoot from such blasters without batteries, but if you want to use the blaster’s functions to the maximum, you can’t do without batteries.

Do Nerf blasters make a lot of noise?

In general, mechanical Nerf blasters are virtually silent. Nerfers make much more noise during “battles.” Your blaster makes some clicking and popping noises. Mega arrows, for example, have a characteristic whistle in flight, but rest assured, these sounds will not disturb others. If noise level is important to you, simply avoid the loudest ones - automatic blasters.

We are buying our first blaster and want to be sure that there will be no problems with arrows jamming.

To do this, you will need to monitor the condition of your arrows:

  1. Only load your blaster with the correct ammunition, Nerf darts from Hasbro.
  2. Make sure your arrows are not deformed.
  3. Do not throw arrows, to avoid getting wet, isolate them from adverse weather influences.
  4. Read the instructions immediately and try to correctly, without jamming, load arrows into the clips and drums of the blaster.

Some blasters have a compartment for removing jammed arrows. By lifting the compartment cover, you can easily remove the stuck arrow.

I want to purchase spare magazines, but I'm not sure if they are compatible with my blasters?

Clips for Nerf blasters are available in 6, 10, 12, and 18 darts. They are designed to quickly reload blasters. Their important advantage is that they are all interchangeable and suitable for any blaster with the Clip System. So, if you wish, you can replace the clip that came with your blaster with a higher-capacity magazine or even a drum.

Which Nerf blaster is the most accurate?

If you just want some advice on which Nerf blaster we recommend as the most accurate, our current recommendation is the Nerf Rival Apollo.

But in Nerf wars, accuracy isn't always the issue. This issue comes to the fore only in single-shot blasters or blasters designed to fire a small number of shots.

In this case, you will need to know the following rules:

  1. The accuracy of the blaster greatly depends on external factors (arrows, your “watchful” eye).
  2. It should be noted that blasters designed for younger nerfers were not intended to be “super accurate.”
  3. Even if you are an experienced shooter, with a new blaster you just need to “shoot.”
  4. If you plan to use accessories that increase accuracy (sights, tactical grip, etc.), be sure to practice with them before combat, getting used to the increased weight of the blaster and the change in its balance.
  5. Keep your ammunition in order and purchase replacement arrow packs on time. For good accuracy, the arrows should be as similar as possible (in weight, size and shape).
  6. You can improve your accuracy by purchasing arrows with a “rifled” tip – Accustrike.
  7. Don't forget that there are some accessories to increase accuracy. This is a barrel extension, stock, tripod or sight.

Which blaster is better to buy: Nerf Triad or Nerf Jolt?

Additional information is needed to answer the question. These blasters have the same operating principle, and each has its own pros and cons. For example, Triad's first advantage is three arrows, versus one for Jolt.
But this can be a disadvantage in the game of accuracy. It will be difficult for you to aim without knowing which barrel the arrow will come from when fired. In the midst of a battle, it’s not easy to remember to mix things up.
Another advantage of Jolt is that it is more compact and will be invisible even in the pocket of light clothing. But the Triad will have a higher rate of fire, because it needs to be reloaded less often.

We tried to collect all the frequently asked questions, but of course, we might have missed something, so if you still have questions after reading the article, be sure to leave them in the comments and we will answer them in our new article.
