Star musicians with Belarusian roots (photo). Belarusian singers

guitar player Rammstein Paul Landers born on December 9, 1964 in Brest. He received the name Ivan, and, according to some sources, his last name was Barbotko. In his early childhood, his family moved to Moscow. There, mother and father separated. With her new husband, her mother moved little Vanya to Berlin. Ivan's only legacy from life in the Soviet Union is that he speaks Russian quite decently.

In Germany, Ivan married Marte Landers and took her last name, and with it the name Paul. The future star adheres to the rules of the pioneers of Russian rock, and in Berlin he works as a fireman in a library. Free time, of course, is completely devoted to music. First he played in the group "Die Firma", then "Feeling B". In 1994 he became one of the creators of Rammstein, whose history everyone knows well.

Famous composer, jazzman, author of ballets, operas, vocal-symphonic and chamber works, as well as many songs for Broadway musicals Vernon Duke born on October 10, 1903 at the Parafyanovo station, Dokshitsy district, Vitebsk region. The real name of the musician is Vladimir Alexandrovich Dukelsky. In his green childhood, his family moved to the Urals, and then to the Crimea. Vernon Duke moved to the USA in 1921, and in 1939 received American citizenship. Now his musical and literary archive is stored in the US Library of Congress, but in Belarus they don’t even remember him.

Outstanding Bass and Stick Player Tony Levin also has Belarusian roots. In one of the interviews before arriving in Russia, the musician admitted:

“My mother is from Ukraine, and all my grandparents are from Ukraine and Belarus, so I have long wanted to come, see the people here, breathe this air... I tried to convince King Crimson go here(we're talking about Russia - approx. Euroradio), I suggested Peter Gabriel, but I never managed to arrange these tours. Now I'm happy and waiting to see how it will be. Anyway, I love vodka!”

Tony Levin played with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, John Lennon, Dire Straits, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Eddie Van Halen and many other world stars. If his ancestors had not left Belarus, the musician could have taught our rock stars how to use the stick. Or I could just fall asleep...

King of Surf Guitar Dick Dale(real name Richard Anthony Mansour) also does not hide his Belarusian origin. His grandmother is local, however, the musician, unfortunately, does not have any other information. But it is known for sure that the starting point of surf rock is considered to be 1962, when Dick Dale released three major hits: “Misirlou”, “Surf Beat” and “Let’s Go Trippin”. And the last and main wave of popularity of this style is considered to be the appearance of the musician’s tracks in films Quentin Tarantino.

David Arthur Brown- American musician, vocalist, songwriter and leader of the band Brazzaville once said:

“I have Jewish roots, and my mother’s family comes from Belarus and Bulgaria. I was one of the few white boys in the area, so I felt comfortable around different people, no matter what color their skin was. Moreover, it’s always a little surprising to me when there are only white Americans around.”

He even thought about looking for the graves of his relatives when he came to Minsk for a concert. But there was never time for this.

“This is confirmed by a document - a notarized copy of the birth certificate. It says that Wolf Shlemovich Vysotsky is Vysotsky’s grandfather, born in Brest, and his father is a tradesman from the town of Selets - Shlem Vysotsky,”- says the head of the research department of the Berezovsky regional newspaper “Mayak” Nikolai Sinkevich.

In Brest, Vysotsky’s grandfather Wolf married paramedic Bronstein. And they celebrated their wedding according to Jewish traditions. Then they moved to Kyiv, where their son Semyon was born - Vysotsky's father.

Leader of the group Mumiy Troll” Ilya Lagutenko before the Minsk concert in support of the album "Rare Lands" he told reporters that he also has Belarusian roots. As it turned out, his grandfather is the same architect Vitaly Lagutenko, who at one time invented the “Khrushchev buildings”.

“My grandfather was born in Mogilev, then moved to Moscow and entered the architectural institute. Later he was given a technical task to resettle people from communal apartments, make very economical housing - which, in my opinion, is what my grandfather did.”

Even the prima donna Alla Pugacheva great-grandfather and great-grandmother (Pavel and Maria), lived in the village of Vzgorsk, Slavgorod district, Mogilev region. During collectivization, Pugacheva’s grandfather Mikhail left for Moscow, where his son Boris (the singer’s father) was born. Alla Borisovna's ancestors are buried near Mogilev. And her aunt Valentina Petrovna Valueva still lives in Mogilev.

U Andrey Makarevich, the founder and only permanent leader of the “Time Machine” group, his paternal grandfather was a rural teacher in the village of Pavlovichi, Grodno province. My paternal grandmother is from the village of Bluden, also in the Grodno province. In 1915 they moved to Moscow, where the musician’s father was born. By the way, Andrei Makarevich’s maternal grandfather and grandmother are also Belarusians, originally from villages in the Vitebsk region.

About the fact that the Norwegian singer and violinist Alexander Rybak of Belarusian origin, all the journalists of the post-Soviet space were noisy. It is not a shame to be proud of the winner of Eurovision 2009, and even the record holder for the number of points in the entire history of the competition. The Rybakov family still maintains connections with their homeland, because their maternal grandmother and paternal sister live in Minsk. My paternal grandmother lives in Vitebsk. By the way, the musician’s father, Igor Aleksandrovich, is also a violinist; he worked in a musical ensemble in Vitebsk and in the Minsk Chamber Orchestra. And my mother worked in the editorial office of music programs of Belarusian Television.

There are many musical stars with Belarusian roots around the world. You can also mention the emigrant Victor Smolsky- leader of a German metal band Rage and now the Bialystok group Toobes, but the majority still settled on the dimensionless Russian stage : Alena Sviridova, Shura And Leva Bi-2, Diana Arbenina, Boris Moiseev, Natalya Podolskaya and many, many others.

After the news that the super popular Ukrainian performer was from Belarus, news came that he was not alone: our artists would take part in the Belarusian national selection. They say that there is less competition there than in Ukraine, the performers explain.

How to say... By the way, Belarusians are a very “singing nation”. Ethnic Minsk resident Alexander Rybak, remember? And popularly loved "Verasy", "Pesnyary", "Syabry"? They tore up stadiums! And now the favorites of our grandparents have come to a new galaxymusicians, many of whom are known throughout the world.

1.Naviband

The duet of Artem Lukyanenko and Ksenia Zhuk loudly announced itself during Eurovision 2017. Our Jamala won, but the positive, vocal couple of Belarusians received the highest score from the Ukrainian jury and many votes from the audience. Let us remind you that Naviband performed the song “History of My Life”.

Now Naviband is a quintet that also plays guitar pop-rock, dream pop and break beat, diluted with blues and indie pop. The guys recently released a new album, “Adnoy Darogai,” and went on tour. They will soon perform in Kyiv - we are holding a drawing for tickets to the concert. Participate!

2. "Bi-2"

Few people know that the world-famous duo Leva and Shura began their stellar career in the glorious city of Bobruisk. It was there, at a children's creative school, that young Shura (real name Alexander Uman) and Leva (he was named Yegor Bortnik at birth) met in 1988. They grew up, founded a group, toured Belarus with concerts, then Israel, and then settled in Australia. “Bi-2” has soundtracks for many famous films, collaboration with a symphony orchestra and a whole bunch of music awards. We recently released our tenth album, the album “Event Horizon”.

3. Sergey Mikhalok

The leader of the super-popular group “Lyapis Trubetskoy”, which blew up dance floors for 25 years - from 1989 to 2014. - not so long ago “retrained” as a serious rocker, and his group has already managed to loudly declare itself. "Lapis" were punk mischief-makers, which made them especially revered by young people. They released as many as 13 albums! Well, the brutal Brutto already boasts 5 albums, not counting singles and collections.

4. Bianca

The singer “lit up” in show business thanks to her collaboration with rapper Seryoga. By the way, she even refused Eurovision for this reason. Not so long ago we “shot” it - “Dog Style”. Rumor has it that the famous Kamensky weight loss was timed specifically for this event - so as not to seem “too big” against the backdrop of the graceful Bianca. The singer actively performs in three countries - Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, has many music awards and has released 6 albums. By the way, the other day Bianca shared good news - she is getting married soon!

5. Evgeniy Litvinkovich

A native of the city of Zhodino became famous in Ukraine by participating in the show “Ukraine’s Got Talent-4” and “X-Factor”. An unusual performer with a strong voice became a super finalist! And also the winner “out of competition”. He made a lot of noise in Ukrainian showbiz, given the rumors about his gender... After his triumph in song shows, he began a solo career, releasing singles, videos, and going on tour. However, after 2016 there is not much news about him. Probably preparing a “bomb” ;)

6. Seryoga

“Black Boomer” - in the 2000s, not only teenagers, but also adults knew this song by heart! Rapper Serega (Sergey Parkhomenko) is from Gomel, and began to create in Germany, where he went on a student exchange. There I became interested in writing so-called sports ditties in the style of rap and hip-hop. I returned home with a baggage of music, and decided to promote myself on Ukrainian TV. Happened. A couple of years ago I launched the Polygraph SharikoOFF project. He released 8 albums, starred in several films, and was a judge on the X Factor show in Ukraine.

7. Alexander Rybak

The winner of Eurovision 2009 - Belarusian Rybak - performed in Moscow from Norway! This alone made him famous. And after he scored 387 points - a record result - after performing the song Fairytale with a violin, the guy from Minsk became famous throughout the world! True, Alexander left his homeland at the age of 4, when his parents moved to Norway, but the family does not lose ties with Belarus. Rybak participated in the jury and was a guest at many Belarusian festivals. By the way, he also appeared in the Ukrainian “Star Factory”. This year the artist again takes part in the national selection from Norway.

Who else can be counted among the famous Belarusians?

  • Marc Chagall (artist, born in Vitebsk in 1887).
  • Isaac Asimov (science fiction writer, born in 1920 in the village of Petrovichi, Mogilev region).
  • Leon Bakst (theater artist, born in 1866 in Grodno).
  • Vasil Bykov (writer, born in 1924 in the village of Bychki, Vitebsk region)

  • Dmitry Koldun (singer, composer, born in Minsk

In 1977, Belarusian singers from the group “Syabry” became laureates of the All-Union Soviet Song Competition. A year later the team recorded their first record. At the same time, their most famous song, “Alesya,” entered VIA’s repertoire.

In 1981, the ensemble changed its director. Anatoly Yarmolenko replaced Valentin Badyarov. He still leads the team to this day. Over the years of its creativity, the ensemble has repeatedly become a laureate of prizes, competitions, and received government awards. In 2008, VIA was awarded the honorary title - Honored Ensemble of the Republic of Belarus. Now the soloist Alesya, the daughter of Anatoly Yarmolenko, has appeared in Syabry.

"Pesnyary"

One of the most famous Belarusian groups of the Soviet years is VIA "Pesnyary". These Belarusian singers were the most popular. The team was created in 1969 in Minsk by Vladimir Mulyavin. The ensemble's repertoire included folk songs in pop adaptations. Pesnyary also staged two rock operas. Initially, the ensemble was called “Lyavony”. A year later, the artists began to be called “Pesnyars”.

The public's most beloved soloist of "Pesnyary" was the owner of the most tender tenor Leonid Bortkevich, who joined the group in 1970. A year later, the ensemble's first album was recorded and tours abroad began. "Pesnyary" was the only Soviet group to visit the USA.

In 1979, the entire composition of VIA was awarded the title

In 1998, the team split into several separate groups. The reason for this was the appointment of a new leader. Vladislav Misevich headed the team. According to the official version, V. Mulyavin was removed from his post due to illness. V. Misevich claimed that this happened due to Vladimir’s addiction to alcohol. V. Mulyavin died in 2003.

Today, five ensembles perform under the Pesnyary brand. In addition to their songs, they perform compositions by the legendary VIA. The head of the arts department of the republic, M. Kozlovich, recognizes only the group “Belarusian Pesnyary”. He believes that this group rightfully inherited the name and repertoire, and the remaining ensembles are illegitimate.

V. Vujacic

Viktor Vuyachic is a Belarusian singer who was popular during Soviet times. He was born in 1934 and died in 1999. During the war years, the family was evacuated to Altai. It was there that little Vitya began to study music. In 1957, V. Vuyachich moved to Minsk. In 1962 he graduated from the M. Glinka Music College. Since 1966 he has been a soloist of the Belarusian Philharmonic. A year later, the artist became a second-degree laureate of the international competition “Golden Orpheus” in Bulgaria. His repertoire included opera arias, military and pop songs, as well as romances.

V. Vuyachic toured all over the world. After the collapse of the USSR, the singer performed only in Belarus. Until the end of his days he led the concert association. In 1999, Viktor Vujačić was awarded the Francis Skaryna Medal. He also received the title People's Artist of Belarus. In the same year, the singer died due to a serious illness.

Seryoga

Sergey Vasilyevich Parkhomenko, or Seryoga, is a hip-hop singer. The artist was born in Gomel in 1976. The song “Black Boomer”, which became a hit, brought him fame. Before making a career in pop music, Sergei was engaged in science. But a chronic need for money forced him to change his occupation. In 2002, the artist recorded his first track. In 2004, a video was shot for the song “Black Boomer”. The video won several awards. The composition occupied the top lines of the charts for a long time and was heard on radio and television. In 2007, Sergei recorded a track for an American computer game. In 2008, the artist released his fourth album. From 2010 to 2013, he was a judge on the X-Factor Ukraine project. S. Parkhomenko recorded his fifth album only in 2014.

Seryoga himself calls his compositions sports ditties. The singer is now preparing to release his sixth album.

S. Volchkov

Sergei Volchkov is a Belarusian baritone. He was born in 1988 in the city of Bykhov, in a family far from music. Since childhood, Sergei has been drawn to art. He graduated from music school, and then from N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov College in piano. Then he entered GITIS, the musical theater department.

Sergei Volchkov gained fame thanks to his victory in the musical television competition “The Voice”.

In 2014, the artist performed in Vitebsk at the “Slavic Bazaar” festival, where his first solo concert entitled “My Rody Kut” took place. The auditorium was overcrowded. Since 2014, S. Volchkov has been collaborating with Alexandra Pakhmutova. In 2015, Sergei toured almost a hundred cities. Now the artist is preparing to release an album, where he will perform songs written specifically for him.

Alexander Ivanov

A.V. Ivanov is a modern Belarusian singer. He performs under the pseudonym IVAN. The artist was born in Gomel in 1994. His father and older brother are musicians.

Alexander graduated from music school with a degree in guitar. In 2013, the singer took part in the show “Battle of the Choirs”. In 2014 he won the “Five Stars” competition, held in Yalta. In 2015, A. Ivanov took second place in the TV show “Main Stage”. Victor Drobysh became the artist’s producer.

In 2016, this Belarusian singer represented his country at Eurovision. He planned to appear on stage naked and with two live wolves. But the organizers of the competition forbade the artist to perform in this form. The number was urgently changed. Alexander sang in clothes, and the wolves were in the form of a hologram. The artist performed in the second semi-final. He failed to qualify for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

There is no escape from tradition: on the eve of the New Year holidays, one’s hands are itching to sum up the results of the musical year. We were curious, how many Belarusian artists manage to release their CDs in a year on those 5 - 6 music labels that are consistently represented on our market?

It turned out that quite a lot: with God's help and the active support of music experts, we have compiled a list of all more or less high-profile releases of 2007. There were 50 of them. The figure, in our opinion, is impressive, although, as is known, the gigantic number of published albums does not always indicate their impeccable quality. We asked the most prominent rock and pop music experts in the capital to carefully study our Top 50 list and recommend no more than five albums for listening.

Expert opinions:

Egor Khrustalev, general producer of ONT:

— I would like to mention Galina Shishkova’s album. I can’t stress enough, it’s made up of my songs, it’s a very important work for me, although I’m unlikely to be able to evaluate it objectively. I don’t know why your subsequent speakers don’t pay attention to pop singers. It seems to me that music critics should focus on all musical genres, not just rock. I’m looking at your list, it seems to me that the music over the past year has become less quality compared to the previous one. When we made “Song of the Year” two years ago, the artists brought good, strong pop music that had been hard-earned, apparently over the course of several years. Every second song was a hit. There were no hits in 2007. The most stable of the artists represented in the “Top 50” is, of course, Vladimir Pugach and the group “J: Morse”. You can mention the group Atlantica. Although, you know, in our production environment there is an opinion that the quality and professionalism of artists is judged not by the first record, but by the second. So, the first Atlantica album was, in my opinion, stronger. I respect all the newly released albums of our good old rockers, although, in my opinion, they did not offer anything super new this year. The group "Krama" makes consistently good, plus-sounding music. The landmark work "Capital" by "Lyapis": their musical provocation brought them good commercial dividends. They again returned "all-Union" interest to their group. Recently we tried to invite them to film ONT projects and were unable to do this simply because of the busy touring schedule of the Lyapis Trubetskoy group. I also really liked the new album of the group “Leprecons”: Ilya Mitko works great in the theme of folk recitative, but he is fatally unlucky. His song “Not a Couple” appeared much earlier than the duet of Potap and Nastya Kamensky, but Ilya simply found himself further away from record companies that could provide decent rotation. Although today music labels are already becoming obsolete. I hope that in the future, when our musicians begin to distribute their music via the Internet, they will gain much more popularity than they have now in Belarus.

Dmitry Podberezsky, dry music expert:

— From your list I would mark “Krama”. With some stretches - probably the Belarusian-language album of the group "J: Mors": after all, not all of their songs are new. Atmoravi is an original musician, he has his own path, unlike anyone else in Belarusian music. In my opinion, each of his albums is very interesting, deep and unusual. My applause to Atmoravi. I listened to his demo recordings a long time ago, and even then, about five years ago, I was very pleasantly pleased with this musician. Let's go further down the list Here's Alexey Shedko, the album "Taiga", of course, this is an album of "old new songs", as one of my friends likes to say. But Shedko, in my opinion, confirmed with “Taiga” his extremely high level of presence in the music market. You won’t find any supernova musical discoveries or surprises in Lesha, but at the same time there are several songs that you want to listen to and listen to. As for the “Festival Ensemble”, I will say that this is an undeservedly unrecognized and unpromoted group in Belarus, although the musicians are of a very high class. The accordionist and bassist of the "Festival" play in the group "Leprecons", which I can't stand, it's beneath my understanding of music. But when I hear these guys in the “Ensemble Festival”, my soul rests, they have the most excellent level of performance. Yura Nesterenko produced a very high-quality album; previously this musician was practically unknown to anyone. He lives in Belynichi, does some of his own business there, and suddenly releases a very stylish, very strong album, “Svyata vyalikikh dazhdzho”, which I recommend for all blues lovers to listen to. I’ll also say a few words about Sergei Kovalev. Despite my dislike for pop music, Kovalev, in my opinion, is a very experienced author, performer and arranger. God bless him, if all our pop music worked at this level, I would be simply happy. I never pay attention to the circulation numbers of performers or groups. In our country, the worse the product, the greater the circulation, in my opinion. The dumber the music, the more likely it will have more promotion and sales.

Oleg Klimov, temperamental music journalist:

— In my opinion, the two most powerful albums of the outgoing year are Zygimont Vaza - Distortion and “Zmyaya” - “Gost Gusta Dustu Part 1”. In a musical sense, they recorded completely modern albums - this is such a weighted alternative music, not “terry” like Deep Purple, for example, but music of the 21st century. I remember the album of the group "Children". “Krambambulya” also supported its status as charming restaurant labukhs with the album “Svyatochnaya”. Yura Nesterenko has a good album. And our “monsters” gave birth to records - N.R.M, “Lapis”, “Neuro Doubel”. To be honest, of all three groups, I found the album N.R.M interesting: I like Lyavon Volsky as a lyricist more when he acts as a philosopher than as a warrior. "Neuro Doubel" has the same impression from the Stasi album. I’ve probably come out of the “barricade” age, I want peace, thinking about life But all these aggressions and scattered emotions do not warm me. Sasha Kullinkovich knows how to write beautiful reflective songs, like Volsky, he is a great philosopher, but, unfortunately, in the albums of the past year, our rock monsters acted straightforwardly. The same claims apply to the Lyapis Trubetskoy group. “Capital” is an aggressive record, even fashionably aggressive, and I personally am sad that Mikhalok could not resist and went into fashion. This surprised me very much. Nevertheless, I think 2007 turned out to be fruitful: the rockers released an album and, I hope, next year they will delight us with concerts. I am optimistic about tomorrow: I am sure that after the well-known visits of musicians to the Administration, “blacklisted” groups will appear on FM airwaves and on television, and many interesting live performances await us there. As for records, there will probably be some lull. As for the pop stage, I certainly like the way Pyotr Elfimov sings. His only weak point seems to me to be the lack of a repertoire. I won’t reveal anything new here, but it’s unclear what genre Elfimov works in. Who is he, a pop musician? rock musician? I think Peter still hasn’t decided on a genre for himself. Petya throws from side to side, so perhaps he doesn’t have a repertoire. We need to decide.
