How to make silver from paints. Features of mixing acrylic paints

Purple color can be easily achieved by mixing paints of other colors. This color is not a basic color, so it is often missing from your paint set. By adding white or black, you get all sorts of shades of purple, from clear light to deep dark.

How to get purple color when mixing oil paints

To get purple, you need to combine two basic colors, namely red and blue. If you use non-pure colors when mixing, you will not end up with the desired shade of purple. It is also necessary to regulate the proportions of the colors being combined; they directly affect the brightness and depth of color.

How to get purple color by mixing paints - shades

The shade of purple depends on the ratio of blue and red colors, as well as the addition of white or black paint. With different ratios of paints, you can get all sorts of shades of noble color.

  • To get a dark purple color, you need to combine blue and red paint, and then add a little black paint. You need to add black paint with special care so as not to add too much, otherwise the color will be close to black and cannot be saved.
  • To obtain a light purple color, you need to mix blue and red paint, and then add white. The color will become an order of magnitude lighter. Light purple can also be achieved by mixing pink and blue.
  • To obtain a purple tint, you need to add red paint in a higher ratio. To get a rich, bright color, you should add more blue paint in the ratio of red and blue.

How to get purple color when mixing paints - features

When combining paints, you should pay special attention to their appearance. Most often, gouache, watercolor or oil paints are used.

  • When painting with gouache, you need to pay special attention to the fact that when it dries, it becomes lighter by several tones. Therefore, when mixing red and blue colors, it is worth taking this factor into account.
  • When painting with watercolors, you are faced with the fact that you cannot achieve a rich color with this paint, and it becomes translucent.

When mixing paints, stick to the main rule - don’t rush! Mix the paints carefully and then you can easily get a “pure” purple color, and also adjust the desired shade of this noble color.

To obtain a harmonious and complete drawing or painting, artists use many colors and shades, which are often obtained after combining a certain number of colors. This also applies to the purple color scheme; it is quite possible to make it yourself by mixing red and blue in equal quantities. Let's look at mixing options in more detail in the article.

What colors of paints need to be mixed to get a purple color from gouache paints: step-by-step instructions

There are three main color options, when mixed you can get one or another shade that you need:

  • Yellow
  • Blue
  • Red

Accordingly, to lighten the color, you need to use white paint. Well, to darken it, you should add black or dark paint to the mixture of primary colors, depending on what color you need.

  • The main thing is to use pure paints to obtain the desired color, without various contaminants. This is especially true for light shades, which are quite difficult to correct if the color is not quite right.
  • To obtain a rich purple color, it is better to use a bright red color, or better yet, bright ultramarine, without green or yellow tints, because the result may be brown.
  • Checking for extra shades or pigments is very simple; to do this, you need to add a few drops of white to the paint.
  • You can mix the shade both on the canvas and on the palette, the main thing is to use a palette of only white colors or the color of the main background, because On wooden or dark palettes, the resulting color may be distorted.
  • To mix gouache, it is best to use a ceramic or disposable plate. It is better to change the water you use as often as possible to keep the shades clean and the pictures clear.

To highlight certain details, use a minimal amount of water when mixing. Before applying gouache to a drawing, it is better to draw a sketch with a simple pencil, and erase it with an eraser during the process.

How to make light purple, soft purple from paints, gouache when mixed?

Many artists are quite familiar with the situation when they run out of the required color or shade. This problem is quite easy to solve, and you shouldn’t immediately go to the store for a new tube; you should mix several colors, usually 2-3, and you can get the color you need. It is, of course, worth taking into account the presence of those colors, thanks to which the missing paint can be obtained. And to be sure of this, you just need to look at the color mixing table.

Since school days, everyone knows that purple is a secondary color that can only be obtained through a mixture of red and blue, but difficulties arise if another shade of this color is needed, for example, soft purple, or light purple. In such a situation, not everyone, even professionals, manages to bring the desired shade to the ideal. Therefore, it is best to gradually introduce additional colors to the main color, and it is advisable to do this not immediately on the canvas, especially if you use gouache.

Mix gouache and paints

To obtain such shades, you need to mix pink paint or gouache with blue. If such camp colors are not available, then white should be added to the mixture of red and blue colors. It is better to do this on the palette to reliably make sure that this is exactly the color that you need. For such manipulations, it is best to use red colbate or ultramarine, and from the blue palette, shades of azure or phthalocyanine are more suitable.

If you add cool red to black, you can end up with a muted purple hue. For such manipulations, it is better to use shades of red such as alizarin or phthalocyanine. And for lightening, use pure white paint or special white.

Of course, the color purple, as well as its shades, is quite beautiful and is used not only in art, but also for painting walls, creating a new interior design, even for hair coloring. Colors play an important role and are used in many areas of activity; it is worth knowing how to get one or another shade correctly.

How to get a dark purple color when mixing paints or gouache?

As a result of combining red and blue in a variety of proportions, you can get a whole range of purple shades. In order for your new color to be accurate and match your plan, you must thoroughly mix the paints together, because as a result of improper mixing, unwanted stripes or spots may form on the canvas during the process. For such manipulations, artists most often use a palette knife - this is a special thin spatula for mixing colors.

  • Of course, the purple color, as described above, can be obtained by mixing red and blue, but if you choose the wrong shades of these colors, you can get an undesirable result, for example, with a gray or brown tint.
  • When you combine cool shades of red and blue, you can definitely get a rich color that makes a great dark shade of purple. Of course, to get what you want you need to add black or dark gray, this is at your discretion, because... There are many dark shades of purple.

  • It is advisable, when adding black, to use a deep, rich color, like black resin. The amount of black color depends on the desired result that you need, it is best to add it gradually, while thoroughly mixing the colors, because black color often absorbs red color and its companions, thus, you will not get a purple color with a red or fiery tint.
  • To achieve a vibrant purple color, experienced artists often use a combination of blue or cyan with mangenta. This combination will 100% give the desired result, and from the resulting color you can easily make various shades, both light and dark.
  • The color of mangenta can be compared with ink from a printer, and in order not to make a mistake when purchasing, you just need to print out an example and select the desired shade by comparison.

It is worth remembering that dark shades absorb red, and therefore often produce an “eggplant” shade of purple when mixed with black. This is worth considering if you want a purple or red-violet color. A similar shade can only be obtained by mixing dark purple with a small amount of pure white, and a grayish tint may also be observed.

How to get lilac when mixing paints, gouache?

Achieving the desired effect in the process of combining paints seems simple only at first glance, including this applies to purple shades. Most colors can “absorb” others, while dominating the resulting shade, therefore, it is worth gradually introducing new colors and mixing very well, as described above. Professionals perform this work directly on the canvas, but if you are in doubt, it is better to do it on a ceramic plate or a special palette.

  • Despite the fact that purple is not considered a basic color, it has quite a lot of pop-up colors, and as a result of introducing additional colors to the main colors or directly to purple, you can get almost 200 different shades of this color, ranging from white-lilac, finishing to deep purple. Guessing the correct proportions of the desired colors is the main problem, because... the transition from one shade to another has a very fine line.

  • Traditionally, the lilac shade, as well as the main purple, are considered cool colors, and, of course, the initial stage of production is considered to be mixing blue and red colors.
  • Lilac color is easy to obtain; to do this, add white to the “regular” violet color, which is made from cold blue and cold red.
  • Lilac color belongs to the third group, because you can get it by combining 2, or even 3 or more colors.

If, as a result of manipulations with tones, you get a lilac color that sets off a red or pink tint, while you need a cold shade of lilac, this problem can be easily corrected, just add a small amount of black to the resulting mixture, which, after mixing, will absorb the redness.

How to get purple when mixing paints, gouache?

Of course, the lilac shade is very beautiful, and paints of similar colors are often used to design walls in the interior of a house. But, of course, in nature you can find a large number of plants that have a purple color. Among them, a huge number are occupied by vegetables, berries, and flowers. But this color does not belong to the primary, primary colors.

  • Lilac, as well as lilac and other shades of violet, is considered a secondary color, because obtained by combining other colors.
  • If you use gouache, then you should pay attention to the name of the purple color. There are 2 categories of this color - these are K and C. In the first case, the red hue is dominant, and in the color scheme, it is between red and violet. But in the second case, purple has a predominantly blue tint, and is between blue and violet in the color scheme.

  • Of course, there are also a large number of shades of purple, and therefore you need to add white carefully. The classic “recipe” for a lilac shade is considered to be a combination of red, blue and white in equal proportions.
  • You can go the other way, if you have pink and blue colors, they also need to be mixed thoroughly and this way you will get the desired purple color. If you don’t have such shades, then you can separately bleach the red color until you get pink, and the blue color until you get blue.

If you use watercolors, then in this case you won’t need white, and ordinary water plays the role of a clarifier; the main thing is to change it more often for the purity and clarity of the drawing.

Shades of purple: palette, color names

Purple color, today, is very popular among interior and clothing designers. Also, it is difficult to imagine various paintings without using at least one shade of this color scheme. As you know, purple is obtained by combining red and blue; for lightening you will need white, and black or simply a dark color will help to saturate the colors with a darker shade.

The Pantone palette contains almost 200 shades of this color, in which you can find not only bright, light, dull shades, but also dark, deep, with a blue or pink tint.

The most popular purple colors are:

  1. Deep, dark and rich:
  • Plum
  • Mulberry
  • Eggplant

This group represents those colors that lack redness, and blue or gray are dominant.

  1. Light:
  • Lilac
  • Violet
  • Orchid color
  • Amethyst
  • Pearl
  • Fuchsia (has a brighter color)

These shades echo delicate scarlet tones and have a red undertone; it is thanks to this characteristic that these colors are classified as warm shades.

  1. Cool shades:
  • Dark purple
  • Indigo
  • Rich, dark silky
  • Purple electric
  • Blackcurrant color

Here are those colors that predominantly have a deep blue undertone. Classic purple is considered the sixth main color; it has a huge number of shades, while having various tints, the main ones, as mentioned above, are red and blue; gray, pink, blue and even orange are also found.

Today it is considered fashionable to use non-standard colors not only in clothing, but also to create modern paintings and drawings. Using different shades, you can convey the depth and precision of an image, and most often, many artists can achieve the desired result only by mixing other colors.

There are chromatic shades, which are placed side by side in a circle of color combinations, as well as achromatic ones - located far from each other or opposite, when mixed, a shade with a predominant gray tint is obtained. Of course, to get the expected result, you need to understand the color scheme and the correct proportions when mixing, but it is also important to use materials that have a similar chemical composition. This can dramatically change the result, or you may end up with a completely different color than you want.

In order for the result to be as accurate as possible, it is better to mix a small amount of paints, because... with large volumes, you may not be able to guess the proportions accurately. The table we offer greatly simplifies the task of finding the right shade; it is used in various areas of life.

Thanks to the knowledge of proper color mixing, you can create real masterpieces. Good luck with your creativity.

Video: Mix colors and get purple color

Every person has ever thought about how an artist produces this or that color. In fact, many shades are obtained by colorists.

Consider the process of obtaining purple: the main colors are red, blue and yellow. It is by mixing them that a wide variety of tones and shades are obtained.

We need to mention black and white. They are not obtained as a result of mixing, so it is worth considering that artists use these five basic tones in their work.

To obtain purple color just mix red and blue. Moreover, the color shade will directly depend on the following factors:

  1. Saturation of original colors
  2. Their number and ratio.

When mixed, the main tone of purple is obtained.

Shades of dark purple

To obtain a dark purple tone, you can use two methods:

  1. Add a little black to the red color.
  2. Mix blue and red, and more than the first in ratio. You can adjust the intensity of the desired shade with black.

Table of shades of purple

Light purple is obtained by adding white to the base tone.. A purple tint can be made by changing the ratio in favor of red.

You can get a soft purple by mixing pink and blue paints.. Scarlet shade of red and light blue give a beautiful burgundy shade of purple.

Mixing dark blue and red results in a rich eggplant tone.

Mixing Features

For different paints with different compositions there are certain ways to mix them to get the tone we need.

How to make from watercolor?

When faced with this type of material, the problem of saturation of the resulting color arises. To solve it, you will need to use whitewash. If they are not there, saturation can be adjusted by adding a certain amount of water.

From oil at home

Oil has greater fluidity compared to acrylic or watercolor. Therefore, the compositions must be mixed very carefully. You can call this a disadvantage, but it allows you to get uniform tones. With partial mixing, you can get inserts of different colors.

There are three ways to mix oil paints: mechanical, color overlay and optical. In the first case, the process occurs in one container, and the saturation is regulated by adding basic tones. In the second case, strokes are applied to each other. In the third method, paints are mixed directly on the surface to be treated, which allows for a more even tone.

How to get from acrylic?

They are universal and are used for many purposes - painting walls, drawing pictures on the ceiling, and so on. The composition adheres well to the treated surface. Buying all possible shades will be very expensive. For this reason, the base colors are mixed.

To get the specific shade you need, in the case of acrylic paints you should use a special table that shows mixing options.

How much corrector should I add?

Table for obtaining purple color

The corrector is able to neutralize the unwanted shade from the resulting color. To make the task easier, they use the so-called Oswald star. There are six colors indicated - three basic and three additional.

If the ends of the star are connected with diagonal lines, you get colors that neutralize each other. Eg, purple color is able to neutralize the basic colors: green, red and yellow.

To intensify the color, you need to add a corrector further down the color wheel.

In various areas of use, these correctors are also called mixtons.

Ultraviolet for tattoo

The paint used is a powder that is “charged” by light and releases this energy as a glow. With this combination, a luminous tattoo is obtained, and the desired color is achieved by adding dye.

Ultraviolet pigment is safe for humans. The composition does not cause allergies, but the paint should be tested to avoid undesirable consequences for the body.

Important! Why should you use UV pigment carefully? Any paint can cause an allergic reaction, so you need to carefully choose the pigment manufacturer.

In conclusion, we note that coloristics is a very interesting science that allows you to give full rein to the artist’s imagination. The production of purple and its various shades clearly illustrates this. Moreover, these methods work not only when writing works of art, but also for decorating rooms, interiors and stained glass windows.

Getting purple by mixing several colors is not always possible. Typically, in school they teach how to mix red and blue to make purple. However, in many cases, instead of the expected one, a dull dark burgundy tone comes out. The article will talk about how to get a purple color when mixing paints - the main secrets and recommendations.

This color in the palette is not the base color. The main ones are yellow, red and blue, mixing which you can get a wide variety of colors. There is also white and black, which cannot be obtained by mixing.

For people involved in painting, murals or applied arts, the color palette consists of three basic colors, plus black and white.

To get a result that is close to purple, you need to prepare:

  • paints;
  • tassels;
  • palette;
  • water or solvent for oil paints.

Regardless of the type of paint, be it acrylic, oil or watercolor, mixing should take place on the palette and not on the drawing itself. This way you can achieve the desired tone or correct it if necessary.

To make purple using red and blue, you need to know a few secrets:

  • If you add a lot of red, you get a crimson tint.
  • If you mix more blue, the color will look like a deep purple.
  • By mixing pure colors it is possible to obtain different shades of purple.
  • For the desired result, it is better to use a cool red. If you take a warm shade, there is a high probability that it will turn out brown.
  • It is unacceptable to use a blue color with a greenish tint.

Getting purple

To obtain purple, at the initial stage you need to combine blue and red in equal proportions on the palette. The resulting color palette may not always match the desired tone, so it needs to be modified. This can be done using the following manipulations:

  • To get a lighter purple paint, you can add a little white.
  • When working with a mixture of lilac and white paints, you can get purple. The intensity is adjusted by the amount of white.
  • A mixture of pink and blue colors will help create a soft lilac palette.
  • If a muted tone is needed, black is mixed with cool red.
  • When working with watercolors, saturation is regulated not with the help of white, but with the amount of water.

It is worth remembering that gouache becomes a couple of shades lighter after drying, so you need to achieve a darker color.

Additional option

Magenta is a primary color and cannot be created by mixing paints. It is mixed with available turquoise or bright blue. Any blue tone or cyan is suitable for this, without a greenish tint and not muted. With the gradual addition of colors, the color palette will acquire the desired shade.

When working with paints, it is useful to follow some rules:

  1. Always use a clean container to scoop up liquid. Otherwise, you can spoil the pure tone, and in the future it can turn out to be an unpredictable color.
  2. Mixing should be done gradually and carefully, since you can always add the ointment, but you won’t be able to remove it.
  3. The resulting shade must be checked not only on the palette, but also on the surface on which it will be applied.

In their work, confectioners often paint the mastic in the desired color. They do this using natural dyes.

Color adjustment

We have already talked about how to get purple colors by mixing paints. If the shade is not the one you wanted, you can always correct it. To do this, you should use the following tips:

  • The color palette can be lightened or, conversely, look brighter with the addition of white. From the resulting shade and the same amount of white you can achieve a pastel color.
  • To create a rich dark tone, you need to add a little black to it.
  • If you don’t know how to make lavender with a grayish tint, you can mix white and black and add the mixture to the main mass of blue and red.

For a successful outcome of the experiment, it is also worth remembering that the brushes need to be washed with each set, which will allow you to maintain pure shades and get a purple color.

Brown is a versatile color that has many possible uses, but it is not always found in art supply sets. Luckily, different shades of brown can be created by mixing the three primary colors: red, blue and yellow. Just mix these three primary colors and you get brown. You can also start with a secondary color, such as orange or green, and add a primary color to it until you get brown. To achieve the shade of brown you want, add more of one of the primary colors, use a little black, or mix two or more different shades.

Steps

Mix primary colors in equal proportions

Squeeze a small drop of each color onto the mixing surface. Place red, blue and yellow paints next to each other on a palette or piece of paper. The exact amount depends on how much brown paint you need. It is important that there is an equal amount of each paint.

    • Leave some space between flowers. This empty space in the middle is where you will mix your different paints.
    • To get brown from primary colors, you just need to mix them in equal quantities.

Advice: In principle, this combination can be used for oil sticks, watercolors or colored pencils, but the final color may not be uniform, since they are more difficult to mix.

Mix the colors completely. Run the tip of the palette knife along the inside edges of all three paints to bring them toward the center. Then use the flat bottom surface of the tool to mix the paints using increasingly wider circular movements. At the same time, you will notice that the mixture gradually acquires a rich brown color.

Add a little white to give the brown some depth. Once you have mixed the paints and got a brown color, add some white paint and continue mixing until it is completely gone. Be careful not to use too much white paint - generally no more than ⅓ of the total paint is needed.

How to get brown from secondary colors

    1. Mix red and yellow together to make orange. Start with enough red paint and add yellow paint little by little until you reach a 1:1 ratio. At the same time, mix the paints until you get a dark orange color.

      • To make the brown color dark enough, you can use a little more red paint.
    2. Mix orange with blue to get brown. Use a little less blue than orange - the proportion of blue paint should not exceed 35-40%. Mix the paints thoroughly until you get a chocolate brown color.

Mix red and blue to make purple. Use these two colors in approximately equal proportions. The perfect combination of red and blue will produce violet, and if you deviate from the exact proportions, you will end up with purple or a similar red tint.

      • Getting the right purple color is quite difficult. If the final mixture has a reddish or bluish tint, add a little of the opposite color to achieve balance.
      • If you add too much blue paint, the purple color will be more difficult to correct. It is easier to achieve the right shade with an excess of red.
    3. Add yellow paint little by little to the purple until you get a brown color. As you mix the paints, you will notice a dirty brown tint beginning to emerge. Continue adding yellow paint in small increments until you get the color you want.

Mix blue and yellow to make green. Squeeze out a large drop of blue and add yellow paint to it little by little. As with orange, you should start with the most saturated green and work your way towards the middle of the spectrum.

      • For best results, the green color should be closer to dark blue than light aquamarine.
    4. Add the right amount of red paint to the green to get a brown color. Mix in just a little red at first and continue adding and stirring as needed to get a darker color. A mixture of green and red can range from an earthy olive brown to a warm burnt orange hue.

      • To get the most “real” brown color possible, the mixture should contain 33-40% red dye. If the proportion is equal, red will slightly predominate.

Advice: The brown color obtained from a mixture of red and green is perfect for landscapes and images of nature.

      How to get different shades

Add a little more red or yellow paint to give the brown a warmer tone. If you want to lighten or enhance the brown, simply add a small amount of one of the warm primary colors. Add paint in small portions and stir continuously until you get the desired shade.
