Who are Bakugan, how do they differ from Zoobles and how to play them?
Bakugan - (Japanese) is a fighting monster that reveals its true power during battle. The Bakugan toy is a ball that consists of a folded monster and a stand, and opens when it comes into contact with a special magnetized playing card.

Zoobles is positioned as a Bakugan for girls. Its principle is the same - an opening ball, but the internal content is different. If the Bakugan ball contains the body of an entire monster, most often with wings and a stand, then the Zoobles ball is rather its head, in which, upon contact with a magnet, eyes or ears can open, and the lower part of the body can appear below. Zoobles himself is a tiny peaceful animal from the island of Zoobl, he can look like a bunny, bird, fish, etc.

Both toys look like ordinary small multi-colored balls. However, in essence, we have a new type of toy - a synthesis of several types of toys at once. The first successful move in creating this toy is that it easily fits in a child’s palm - the most suitable size of the toy for children 6-9 years old. The second success is that the balls are designed to be multi-colored, different in size and “filling”, that is, they can be collected. The third discovery is a little secret - someone lives in a small ball, a creature with legs and wings, it is revealed only under certain conditions. Fourth - when revealed, the creature is filled with special magical power. Possession of this little secret gives protection from enemies or possible fears. Fifth, a small ball stepped from the screen of a modern cartoon - provides a certain status among peers.
At first glance, Bakugan as a toy can be interesting for children of all ages - even one-year-old babies can show interest in the surprise - there was a ball that turned into a creature. However, the time of playing with a surprise toy is extremely short - a few minutes. Therefore, in this capacity, Bakugan will not hold the attention of children for long. For a much longer time, toys are interesting as a collection of multi-colored balls - you can look at them, roll them around, hide them in houses, push them together, in a word, you can play with them like ordinary small balls. For children of primary preschool age (3-5 years), balls can become an interesting material for experimentation, because they have a mechanism with a spring, which is activated by contact with a magnet. Here you can launch a whole scientific study - where the ball will open and where it won’t, and what if you throw it into water, lean it against a metal surface, push it against each other, etc.

At the age of about 4 years, children begin to discover the character traits of the hero inherent in his image. A child who is not familiar with the plot of the cartoon and the rules of the game, based on external signs, such as the color and appearance of the toy, can imagine it as good or evil, cheerful or sad, determine where it can live, what to eat, who to be friends with and what to do.
How to play Bakugan? At its core, the game of Bakugan is a strategic board game, where balls with monsters are chips. In strategy games, the child thinks through his moves, learns to anticipate the actions of a partner or opponent, and develop clever tactics. For children over 7-8 years old, playing Bakugan is an exciting and meaningful game that develops arbitrariness, attention, memory, logical and spatial thinking, communication skills, and the ability to work in a team.

However, if the Bakugan themselves are just harmless balls, and the game is a useful collective activity for children, it is in the nature of the characters and in the features of the cartoon itself that there is a possibility of turning it into a rather destructive activity. In 2011, employees of the Center for Games and Toys of the Moscow State University of Psychology and Education conducted a small pilot study of children's play with Bakugan toys. One group consisted of children who watched a cartoon and had their own Bakugan balls. In the other group, the children did not watch the cartoon, and only saw the balls or played with them before. Observation of children's free play was recorded on video. Observations of the games of preschool children showed the following. At this age, children are not yet able to retain all the complexity of the story, the plot and relationships of the characters, and also transfer the plot into the space of a complex strategic game. However, after watching the cartoon, a deep emotional experience remains, which is reflected in the children’s play. In this game, children were able to express their experiences in an acceptable playful form and in an imaginary space, but the plot of the game could have turned out differently if it had not been for watching the cartoon.
