1. Knead the salt dough from the listed ingredients. The dough should be homogeneous, soft, pleasant to the touch, and hold its shape well. It should not stick to your hands.
2. Prepare a surface where our ready-made New Year's crafts made from salt dough will dry. Since we will be drying them in the oven, a baking tray lined with foil or baking paper will do.
3. On a table or board, roll out the dough to a thickness of at least 1 cm (if it is thinner, the toys will quickly begin to break). The dough is rolled out thinner only for the halves, which are later connected - lace is placed between them.
4. Carefully place the sheet of dough onto a baking sheet and then cut out or squeeze out shapes with molds. If you do this on the table and then transfer it to a baking sheet, they will lose their shape.
5. Remove excess dough.
6. You need to immediately make holes in the figures: at the top for pendants, at the bottom for additional decorations (in the photo you see houses with laces made of knitting threads). Many craftswomen advise piercing the desired places for the holes with thick pasta, and pulling them out of the holes when the crafts have dried a little.
7. It takes a long time to dry Christmas tree decorations made from salt dough. First in the oven at 100°C until golden brown. Or in three passes at a temperature of 80°C, then the toys will remain white. If the oven is gas, then you need to dry the dough crafts with the door slightly open for at least 3 hours at a low temperature - they should become hard as a stone. After manipulating the oven, let the toys sit in a closet or on a shelf for at least another week.

Next, let's move on to decor.

We paint only well-dried toys with acrylic paints. Otherwise they will start to spoil like bread.

Let the paint dry.

Apply pearlescent paint on top of the painted toy with an almost dry brush to create a worn effect.

Decorating salt dough toys should be colorful and bright, but this is up to your taste. Pearlescent paint may be enough, but it’s better to add a couple more highlights.

So, you can paint windows on the houses, separate the roof from the wall with a strip using glitter, and on the roof itself you can draw a pattern reminiscent of tiles with a golden outline. In the houses, we initially made 3 holes at the bottom, into which we then threaded fluffed knitting threads and tied them into knots.

We draw dots on the bells using a silver outline or glitter.

As you can see, several toys have lace; it is inserted between the two halves while working with the dough. The halves are connected, and the edges of the lace protrude beautifully on the sides, creating an entertaining decoration.

Salt dough is an excellent material that is also suitable for making Christmas tree decorations with your own hands. The craft is based on a mold, which can be replaced with ordinary household items. Such toys are decorated with paint, beads, buttons and other decorative materials.

The technology for making toys from it is quite simple and consists of 3 main stages:

1. First, the base is molded using a mold.
2. Then it is painted with gouache and decorated with decorative elements (beads, buttons, shells and many others).
3. After this, it is dried naturally or in an ordinary oven.

In general, it is best to dry crafts in the oven, especially since this process goes very quickly, and the heating is not very strong.

It is also possible to brown toys at higher temperatures (up to 200 o C). However, this is a more risky path, so it is better to constantly be near the stove.

And the total “cooking” time should take no more than 15-20 minutes. Therefore, most often they choose a comfortable range of 70-130 o C. Then the models acquire the necessary strength and at the same time do not crack due to overheating.

And most importantly: any products made from salt dough are strictly prohibited from being eaten!

It is especially important to keep an eye on children who constantly put all sorts of things into their mouths - necessary and not so necessary. There are 2 threats here - the inedible “cookies” themselves and small decorative elements that decorate ready-made toys (beads, seed beads, etc.). Be careful!

And sometimes you don’t even need to use molds to work - you just need to put your palm on it, and then cut it along the contour or in a circle and color it as your imagination dictates.

At the stage of creating the model, it can be decorated with various decorative elements. They should not be plastic, otherwise you will have to dry the toy without an oven - the beads may simply melt.

There are several ways to dry crafts made from salt dough or cold porcelain. The first one is natural. Leave the products for several days in a dry and warm place. The thicker the layer of dough in the craft, the more time it will take for it to dry completely. On average, it takes 24 hours to dry 1 millimeter of dough during natural drying. Crafts made from cold porcelain dry much faster - 8-12 hours.

Used for drying and oven. It is heated as much as possible, and then the finished crafts are placed in it. After this, the oven must be turned off. Do not open it until it has completely cooled down.

Let's reveal a secret. Crafts will not stick to the baking sheet if you cover it with parchment paper.
