Our heavenly father son of god prayer.

We are all children not only of our parents, but also children of God. How did this happen? The Lord created the entire world around us: space with its galaxies, planets, stars and comets, our earth with its seas, continents, islands, rivers, lakes, mountains, fields and forests. He created all fish, reptiles, birds, mammals, and in general the entire flora and fauna. Finally, God created his highest creation - man. Man is the crown of creation. Everything that we see on our planet Earth, it itself and everything that is in space, could not have arisen by chance, without creative participation superintelligent creative force, Which is God.

Our world is incredibly complex and wisely structured. One cell of the human body contains more information than all thirty volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica. When we see some object or item made by human hands, we immediately imagine how much work, effort and intelligence was put into it. Even a very simple thing - a table or a chair - cannot arise by itself, without the application of external forces, not to mention more complex objects. For example, a residential building. Hundreds of people work to build it: architects, designers, builders. But a house is a fairly simple creation of man; there are much more complex ones. For example, to build and send a spaceship into space, it will take years of human labor, enormous work of entire research institutes and special factories. The creation of any spacecraft is based on thousands of inventions and scientific discoveries. And God, possessing all-perfect intelligence and omnipotence, created all cosmic bodies and planets and launched them into precisely calibrated orbits. By the way, space in Greek order, structure, harmony, beauty: after all, everything that God created is beautiful and perfect.

But God not only created this world, He cares for it as His beloved creation. God is all-perfect Love He creates this world and man, as the famous 7th-century theologian St. John of Damascus writes, “according to the abundance of goodness.” Love always requires expression, it must be poured out on someone, the lover must take care of someone. And God, having created the world out of an abundance of love, provides for and cares for it. God participates in the life of not only all humanity, but also every person.

Parents, when children appear in the family, show their love, care, and concern for them. Also Our Heavenly Father does not leave us, His children, in His care. What we have: food, drink, vitality, abilities, talents - we receive all this as a gift from God Himself. Therefore, we constantly thank God.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This is how Orthodox Christians begin their morning and evening prayers. In this prayer we call for help Holy Trinity, one in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we ask that God bless all our works and endeavors, both prayerful and everyday. This prayer can be read before starting any business.

Word "Amen"(Hebrew amen - true) at the end of the prayer means: truly so. Many prayers end with this word; it confirms the truth of what was said.

God bless.

This prayer is also said before every activity. All our actions, deeds, and works will then be successful when we call on God for help, ask Him for help and blessings.

Lord have mercy.

We hear these words most often during worship. "Lord have mercy!" (Greek: “Kyrie eleyson”) is the oldest prayer. To strengthen our repentant mood, we repeat it three, twelve and forty times. All these three numbers in the Holy Bible symbolize completeness.

A deacon or priest, on behalf of all those praying in the church, pronounces a litany, asking the Lord to forgive us our sins and grant us His heavenly and earthly blessings. The chorus answers: “Lord, have mercy!” - as if on behalf of all those praying. We also say this prayer to ourselves. This is the shortest confession, even briefer than the repentance of the publican, who said five words from the depths of a contrite heart. In it we humbly ask God for forgiveness for all our sins and pray for help.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.

(Pronounced three times)

This prayer is called Trisagion— the word “Holy” is repeated three times. It is addressed to the Holy Trinity. We call God Holy because He is sinless; Strong because He is omnipotent, and Immortal because He is eternal.

A strong earthquake occurred in Constantinople in 439. The people were in fear. People, going around the city in a religious procession, prayed to God to end the disaster. They repentantly, with tears, exclaimed: “Lord, have mercy!” During prayer, one boy was lifted into the air by an invisible force. When he sank to the ground, he said that he saw a choir of Angels singing: “Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us!” As soon as this chant was repeated by the believers, the earthquake stopped. This sacred angelic song has become an integral part of the worship and prayer rules of Orthodox Christians.

Glory to Thee, Lord, glory to Thee.

We must not only ask God for something, but also thank Him for everything that He sends us. If something good happens to us, we should offer thanks to God at least briefly by saying this prayer. During the day we will notice everything that the Lord gives us, and when we go to sleep we will thank Him.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation. But deliver us from the evil one.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, Who is in Heaven! Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us our daily bread today. And forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation. But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

This prayer is special. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself gave it to His disciples-apostles when they asked Him: “Lord, teach us to pray.” That is why this prayer is called the Lord's Prayer. It is also called the “Our Father” prayer - after the first words. All Orthodox Christians, even small ones, should know it by heart. There is even a saying: “To know like the Lord’s Prayer,” that is, to remember something very well.

This short prayer contains a request to God for everything that a person needs. We turn to God with the words: “Our Father!”, because He created all people, gave us life, takes care of us and Himself calls us His children: gave the power to become children of God(John 1:12). We are His children, and He is our Father. God is everywhere, but His Throne, the place of special presence, is in the inaccessible, high spheres in heaven where Angels live.

Hallowed be Thy name. First of all, the name of God, His glory must be sanctified in His children - people. This light of God must be visible in us, which manifests itself in good deeds, words, in purity of heart, in the fact that we have peace and love among ourselves. The Lord Himself said about this: So let your light shine before people, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.(Mt 5:16).

Thy kingdom come. It also says that the Kingdom of God must first of all come in the heart and soul of every Christian. We Orthodox Christians must show other people an example of how the Kingdom of God begins in our family, in our parish, how we love each other and treat people well and kindly. The future Kingdom of God, which has come in power, will begin on earth after the Lord Jesus Christ comes to it for the second time to judge all people with His final Judgment and establish a kingdom of peace, goodness and truth on earth.

Thy will be done as it is in heaven and on earth. The Lord wants only good and salvation for us. People, unfortunately, do not always live the way God wants. Angels in heaven are always in obedience to God, they know and do His will. We pray that people will understand that God wants them all to be saved and happy, and will be obedient to God. But how can you find out God’s will for yourself? After all, we are all different, and everyone has their own path. To live according to the will of God, you need to build your life the way God commands, that is, be guided in your life by His commandments, by what the word of God, the Holy Scripture, tells us. We need to read it more often and look for answers to questions in it. We need to listen to our conscience, it is the voice of God in us. It is necessary to accept with humility and gratitude everything that happens to us in life as sent from God. And in all difficult, difficult circumstances, when we do not know what to do, it is necessary to ask God to enlighten us and consult with spiritually experienced people. If possible, it is advisable for everyone to have his own spiritual father and, when necessary, ask him for advice.

Give us this day our daily bread. We ask God to give us for every day of our life everything we need for our soul and body. By Bread here we primarily mean Heavenly Bread, that is, the Holy Gifts that the Lord gives us in the Sacrament of Communion.

But we also ask for earthly food, clothing, housing and everything necessary for life. Therefore, Orthodox Christians read the “Our Father” prayer before meals.

And forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors. We all have something to repent of before the Heavenly Father, we have something to ask Him for forgiveness for. And God, out of His great love, always forgives us if we repent. Likewise, we must forgive our “debtors” - people who cause us sorrow and resentment. If we do not forgive our offenders, then God will not forgive us our sins.

And do not lead us into temptation. What are temptations? These are life's trials and circumstances in which we can easily commit sins. They happen to everyone: it can be difficult to resist irritation, harsh words, and hostility. We need to pray that God will help us cope with temptation and not sin.

But deliver us from evil. From whom do temptations, bad, sinful thoughts, desires most often come? From our enemy - the devil. He and his servants begin to instill in us evil thoughts and encourage us to sin. They deceive us, never tell the truth, therefore the devil and his servants are called wicked - deceitful. But there is no need to be afraid of them, God has assigned a Guardian Angel to us, who helps us in the fight against demonic temptations. God protects from the evil devil all who turn to Him.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. The Lord's Prayer ends with praise to God, glorifying Him as the King and Ruler of the world. We believe that God is the All-Perfect Power, capable of helping us and protecting us from all evil. In confirmation of our faith we say: “Amen” - “truly so.”

When explaining the Lord’s Prayer to children, one can recall Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale “The Snow Queen” in its full version. The heroine of the fairy tale, the girl Gerda, read the “Our Father,” and the prayer helped her a lot. When Gerda approached the Snow Queen's palace to help Kai out, her path was blocked by scary servants. “Gerda began to read “Our Father”; it was so cold that the girl’s breath immediately turned into a thick fog. This fog thickened and thickened, but little bright angels began to stand out from it, who, having stepped on the ground, grew into large, formidable angels with helmets on their heads and spears and shields in their hands. Their number kept growing, and when Gerda finished her prayer, a whole legion had already formed around her. The angels took the snow monsters onto their spears, and they crumbled into a thousand pieces. Gerda could now boldly walk forward: the angels stroked her arms and legs, and she no longer felt so cold. Finally the girl reached the palace of the Snow Queen.”

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

This prayer is addressed to the third Person of the Holy Trinity - the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is everywhere, for God is Spirit. He is the giver of life and grace-filled help to all living. This prayer is especially important to read before starting any good deed, so that the grace of the Holy Spirit will dwell in us, strengthen our strength and give us help. It is customary to read the prayer “To the Heavenly King” before classes.

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary

("Virgin Mother of God")

This prayer is based on greeting of Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary at the moment of the Annunciation when the holy Archangel brought the news of the birth from Her to the Mother of God Savior of the world(see: Lk 1:28).

The Church honors and glorifies the Mother of God above all saints, above all Angels. The prayer “Rejoice to the Virgin Mary” is ancient, it appeared in the first centuries of Christianity.

Words blessed is the fruit of your womb, glorifying Christ, born of the Virgin Mary, are taken from the greeting of righteous Elizabeth, when the Most Holy Theotokos, after the Annunciation, wished to visit her (Luke 1:42).

This prayer is glorifying. We magnify and glorify the Mother of God in her as the Most worthy and righteous Virgin of all people, who was awarded the great honor of giving birth to God Himself.

We also turn to the Mother of God in a short prayer of supplication:

Most Holy Theotokos, save us.

We ask God for salvation through the prayers of the person closest to Him - His Mother. The Mother of God is our first Intercessor and Intercessor before God.

Song of praise to the Mother of God

(“Worthy to eat”)

The Most Holy Theotokos is truly worthy of veneration and delight as the immaculate Mother of Christ the Savior.

We glorify Her more than all the Heavenly Powers, Cherubim and Seraphim and magnify the Mother of God, who gave birth to God the Word, the Lord Jesus Christ, without birth pains and illnesses.

Prayer “It is worthy to eat” - doxological, laudatory . “It is worthy to eat” and “To the Virgin Mary” are the most famous and important prayers to the Mother of God. Most often they are sung in the temple by all those praying.

This prayer usually concludes some parts of the church service. In home prayer, “It is worthy to eat” is usually read at the very end. This prayer is read after studying and working.

Arkhangelsk Song

The prayer “It is worthy to eat” is called the Archangel’s Song. According to the legend of Holy Mount Athos, during the reign of Basil and Constantine the Porphyrogenitus, Elder Gabriel and his novice, who was also called Gabriel, labored in a cell near the monastery of Kareia. On Saturday evening, June 11, 980, the elder went to the monastery for an all-night vigil, and left the novice to perform the service privately. At night, an unknown monk knocked on his cell. The novice showed him hospitality. They began to perform the service together. While singing the words “Most Honest Cherub,” the guest said that they glorify the Mother of God in a different way. He sang “It is worthy that You are truly blessed, the Mother of God, the Ever-Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our God...”, and then added: “The most honorable Cherub...” The icon of the Mother of God “Merciful”, in front of which they prayed, shone with heavenly light. The novice asked to write down this song, but there was no paper in the cell. The guest took the stone, which became soft in his hands, and inscribed this prayer with his finger. The guest introduced himself as Gabriel and disappeared. When Elder Gabriel arrived, he realized that Archangel Gabriel was coming. The stone with the song inscribed by the Archangel was delivered to Constantinople.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel

To the Angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me by God from heaven, I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, save me from all evil, guide me to good deeds and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen.

Each person is given a Guardian Angel at baptism. He protects us, preserves us from all evil and especially from the machinations of the demonic forces.

In this prayer, we turn to him and ask him to enlighten our minds to the knowledge of God, to save us from all evil, to guide us to salvation and to help us in all good deeds.

Prayer for the living

Save, Lord, and have mercy on my spiritual father(his name) , my parents(their names) , relatives, mentors, benefactors and all Orthodox Christians.

Our duty is to pray not only for ourselves, but also for the people closest to us: parents, the priest with whom we confess, brothers, sisters, teachers, everyone who does good to us, and for all brothers in faith - Orthodox Christians.

Prayer for the departed

Rest, O Lord, the souls of Your departed servants: my parents(their names) , relatives, benefactors(names) , and all Orthodox Christians, and forgive them all sins, voluntary and involuntary, and grant them the Kingdom of Heaven.

God has no dead, He has everyone alive. Not only those living on earth, those close to us, need our prayerful help, but also those who have left us, all our deceased relatives and friends.

Prayer before studying

Most gracious Lord, bestow upon us the grace of Your Holy Spirit, bestowing and strengthening our spiritual strength, so that, by heeding the teaching taught to us, we may grow to You, our Creator, for the glory, and as our parent, for the consolation, for the benefit of the Church and the Fatherland.

For schoolchildren, their classes and studies are the same work as for adults their daily work. Therefore, we need to begin such an important and responsible matter as teaching with prayer, so that the Lord will give us strength, help us to master the teaching being taught, so that we can then use the acquired knowledge for the glory of God, for the benefit of the Church and our country. In order for work to bring us joy and benefit to people, we need to learn a lot and work hard.

Prayer after eating food

We have already said that before eating food, the prayer “Our Father” is read. After eating, we also read a prayer, giving thanks to God for the meal sent.

God sends us food, but people prepare it, so we also don’t forget to thank those who fed us.

Jesus Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

The Jesus Prayer is addressed to our Lord Jesus Christ. In it we ask for the most important thing: that the Savior forgive our sins and save us, have mercy on us.

This prayer is usually read in monasteries; it is part of the daily prayer rule. Monks - people who have dedicated their lives to serving God - read it many times, sometimes almost without a break all day. The prayer is read using the rosary so as not to lose count, because it is read a certain number of times. A rosary is usually a string with knots or beads tied in it. People living outside the monastery, in the world, can also read the Jesus Prayer and pray the rosary, but for this they need to take a blessing from the priest. It is very good to say the Jesus Prayer while working, calling on God for help, on the road, and generally at any convenient time.

Prayer has great power. In the Lives of Saints, Patericon, Fatherland and other spiritual books there are many examples of the miraculous effect of prayer.

The Power of Prayer

Abba Dula, a student of Elder Vissarion, says: “Abba Vissarion needed to cross the river Chryzoroia. Having said a prayer, he walked along the river, as if on dry land, and came out to the other bank. In surprise, I bowed to him and asked: what did your feet feel when you walked on the water? The elder answered: my heels felt the water, but the rest was dry. In this way he crossed the great Nile River more than once” (Otechnik).

Detailed description from several sources: “prayer of our heavenly father who art in heaven” - in our non-profit weekly religious magazine.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Father - Father (appeal is a form of the vocative case). Who art in heaven - existing (living) in Heaven, that is, Heavenly ( others like it- which). Yesi– form of the verb being in the 2nd person singular. Numbers of the present tense: in modern language we speak you are, and in Church Slavonic - you are. Literal translation of the beginning of the prayer: O our Father, He who is in Heaven! Any literal translation is not entirely accurate; words: Father Dry in Heaven, Heavenly Father - more closely convey the meaning of the first words of the Lord's Prayer. Let him be holy - may it be holy and glorified. Like in heaven and on earth - both in heaven and on earth (like - How). Urgent- necessary for existence, for life. Give it - give. Today- Today. Like- How. From the evil one- from evil (words crafty, wickedness– derivatives from the words “bow”: something indirect, curved, crooked, like a bow. There is also a Russian word “krivda”).

This prayer is called the Lord’s Prayer because our Lord Jesus Christ Himself gave it to His disciples and all people:

It happened that when He was praying in one place and stopped, one of His disciples said to Him: Lord! Teach us to pray!

– When you pray, say: Our Father who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Give us our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every debtor to us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (Luke 11:1-4).

Our Father who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done both on earth and in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen (Matt. 6:9-13).

By reading the Lord's Prayer daily, let us learn what the Lord requires of us: it indicates both our needs and our main responsibilities.

Our Father… In these words we still do not ask for anything, we only cry out, turn to God and call him father.

“Saying this, we confess God, the Ruler of the universe, as our Father - and thereby we also confess that we have been removed from the state of slavery and appropriated to God as His adopted children.”

(Philokalia, vol. 2)

...Who art thou in Heaven... With these words, we express our readiness to turn away in every possible way from attachment to earthly life as wandering and separating us far from our Father and, on the contrary, to strive with the greatest desire for the region in which our Father dwells...

“Having reached such a high degree of sons of God, we must burn with such filial love for God that we no longer seek our own benefits, but with all desire desire the glory of Him, our Father, saying to Him: Hallowed be thy name,- by which we testify that all our desire and all our joy is the glory of our Father - may the glorious name of our Father be glorified, reverently honored and worshiped.”

Venerable John Cassian the Roman

Thy Kingdom come- that Kingdom “by which Christ reigns in the saints, when, after taking away power over us from the Devil and expelling passions from our hearts, God begins to reign in us through the fragrance of virtues - or that which at a predetermined time is promised to all the perfect, to all children God, when Christ says to them: Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world (Matt. 25, 34).”

Venerable John Cassian the Roman

Words "Thy will be done" turn us to the Lord's prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane: Father! Oh, that You would deign to carry this cup past Me! however, not my will, but yours be done (Luke 22:42).

Give us this day our daily bread. We ask to be given the bread necessary for food, and not in large quantities, but only for this day... So, let us learn to ask for the most necessary things for our life, but we will not ask for everything leading to abundance and luxury, for we do not know how much wood is needed. is it for us? Let us learn to ask for bread and everything necessary only for this day, so as not to become lazy in prayer and obedience to God. If we are alive the next day, we will ask for the same thing again, and so on all the days of our earthly life.

However, we must not forget the words of Christ that Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4). It is even more important to remember other words of the Savior : I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world (John 6:51). Thus, Christ means not only something material, necessary for a person for earthly life, but also eternal, necessary for life in the Kingdom of God: Himself, offered in Communion.

Some holy fathers interpreted the Greek expression as “supra-essential bread” and attributed it only (or primarily) to the spiritual side of life; however, the Lord's Prayer embraces both earthly and heavenly meanings.

And forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors. The Lord Himself concluded this prayer with an explanation: For if you forgive people their sins, then your Heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive people their sins, then your Father will not forgive you your sins. (MF. 6, 14-15).

“The merciful Lord promises us forgiveness of our sins if we ourselves set an example of forgiveness to our brothers: leave it to us, just as we leave it. It is obvious that in this prayer only those who have forgiven their debtors can boldly ask for forgiveness. Whoever with all his heart does not let go of his brother who sins against him, with this prayer he will ask for himself not mercy, but condemnation: for if this prayer of his is heard, then in accordance with his example, what else should follow, if not inexorable wrath and indispensable punishment ? Judgment without mercy for those who show no mercy (James 2:13).”

Venerable John Cassian the Roman

Here sins are called debts, because by faith and obedience to God we must fulfill His commandments, do good, and shun evil; is that what we do? By not doing the good we should do, we become debtors to God.

This expression of the Lord’s Prayer is best explained by Christ’s parable about the man who owed the king ten thousand talents (Matthew 18:23-35).

And do not lead us into temptation. Bringing to mind the words of the apostle: Blessed is the man who endures temptation, because, having been tried, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12), we should understand these words of prayer not like this: “do not let us ever be tempted,” but like this: “do not let us be overcome by temptation.”

When tempted, no one should say: God is tempting me; because God is not tempted by evil and does not tempt anyone Himself, but everyone is tempted by being carried away and deceived by his own lust; lust, having conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin that is committed gives birth to death (James 1:13-15).

But deliver us from evil - that is, do not allow yourself to be tempted by the devil beyond our strength, but with give relief to temptation, so that we can endure (1 Cor. 10:13).

Venerable John Cassian the Roman

The Greek text of the prayer, like Church Slavonic and Russian, allows us to understand the expression from the evil one and personally ( sly– the father of lies – the devil), and impersonally ( crafty- everything unrighteous, evil; evil). Patristic interpretations offer both understandings. Since evil comes from the devil, then, of course, the petition for deliverance from evil also contains a petition for deliverance from its culprit.

Our Father in heaven. what does it mean?

God wants by this to attract us to Himself, so that we believe that He is our true Father, and we are His true children, and so that we boldly and with full trust turn to Him with prayer, as beloved children turn to their beloved father.

Although the name of God is holy in itself, we ask in this prayer that it may also be holy among us. When the word of God is taught in integrity and purity and we live holy according to this word, as children of God, in what way may our beloved help us Heavenly Father! Whoever teaches and lives contrary to the word of God dishonors the name of God among us, from which may the Heavenly Father protect us!

Although the kingdom of God comes by itself and without our prayer, we ask in this prayer that it come to us too. When the Heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit, so that we, by His grace, believe His holy word and live godly here temporarily and there forever.

Although the good and merciful will of God is fulfilled even without our prayer, we ask in this prayer that it be fulfilled for us too.

When God resists and hinders every evil counsel and intention that does not allow us to sanctify the name of God or come to His kingdom, such as the will of the devil, the world and our flesh: but strengthens us and confirms us to the end in His word and faith. This is His mercy. and good will.

God gives our daily bread even without our prayer to all evil people, but we ask in this prayer that He would lead us to the realization that this is His gift, and we would accept our daily bread with thanksgiving.

What is called daily bread?

Everything that is necessary for body and life, such as spouses, godly children, godly servants, God-fearing and conscientious authorities, good government, favorable weather, peace, health, good behavior, honor, good friends, faithful neighbors and the like.

We ask in this prayer that the Heavenly Father would not look at our sins and would not reject our prayer because of them, since we are unworthy and do not deserve what we ask for, but would be pleased to grant us everything by His mercy, since we We sin a lot every day and deserve only punishment. And we also want to forgive with all our hearts and willingly do good to those who have sinned before us.

God, however, does not tempt anyone: but we ask Him in this prayer to be pleased to preserve and protect us, so that the devil, the world and our flesh do not seduce and draw us into unbelief, despair and other shameful deeds and vices, and allow us to finally triumph and retain victory for ourselves if we are subjected to these temptations.

In this prayer we ask the Heavenly Father to deliver us from all evil, physical and mental, and from all damage to property and honor, and finally, when our last hour comes, to grant us a blessed death and from this vale of tears to take us in His goodness to To your own heaven.

We must be sure that such requests are pleasing to the Heavenly Father and will be heard by Him, because He Himself commanded us to pray this way and promised to hear us.

AMEN.AMEN – MEANS: YES, YES, TRULY, SO IT WILL BE.

And those who try to understand the BIBLE WITH THEIR MIND, NOTHING GOOD COMES OUT OF THIS.

"Our Father" - the Lord's prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven!

Hallowed be Thy name,

may your kingdom come,

Thy will be done

I am in heaven and on earth.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and leave us with our lies,

I am the skin and we leave the debtor to ours;

and do not lead us into temptation,

but deliver us from the bow

Our Father who art in heaven!

Hallowed be Thy name;

Thy kingdom come;

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. ( Matthew 6:9-13)

Our Father who art in heaven!

Hallowed be Thy name;

Thy kingdom come;

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

Give us our daily bread;

and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every debtor to us;

and do not lead us into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

qui es in caelis,

sanctificetur nomen tuum.

Adveniat regnum tuum.

Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.

Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie.

Et dimite nobis debita nostra,

sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.

Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,

Sed libera nos a malo.

In English (Catholic liturgical version)

Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be your name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Why did God Himself give a special prayer?

“Only God Himself can allow people to call God Father. He granted this right to people, making them sons of God. And despite the fact that they withdrew from Him and were in extreme anger against Him, He granted oblivion of insults and the sacrament of grace.”

The Lord's Prayer is given in the Gospels in two versions, more extensive in the Gospel of Matthew and brief in the Gospel of Luke. The circumstances under which Christ pronounces the text of the prayer are also different. In the Gospel of Matthew, the Lord's Prayer is part of the Sermon on the Mount. Evangelist Luke writes that the apostles turned to the Savior: “Lord! Teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples” (Luke 11:1).

Holy Fathers on the Lord's Prayer

What do the words of the Lord's Prayer mean?

Why can you pray differently?

The Lord's Prayer does not exclude the use of other prayers. The Lord did not want that, besides the prayer He gave, no one should dare to introduce others, or express their desires differently from the way He expressed them, but only wanted it to serve as a model that would be similar to it in spirit and content. “Since the Lord,” Tertullian notes about this, “after teaching the rules of prayer, he especially commanded: “Seek and you will find” (Luke 11:9), and there are many things about which each, according to his own circumstances, preceded this law with a specific prayer, as a foundation, there is a need to pray, then it is permissible to add others to the requests of this prayer in accordance with the current needs of life. Lord's Prayer "Our Father"

One of the main prayers of an Orthodox person is the Lord's Prayer. It is contained in all prayer books and canons. Its text is unique: it contains thanksgiving to Christ, intercession before Him, petition and repentance.

It is with this prayer that we turn to the Almighty directly without the participation of saints and heavenly angels.

Reading rules

  1. The Lord's Prayer is included in the obligatory prayers of the morning and evening rules, and its reading is also recommended before meals, before starting any business.
  2. It protects from demonic attacks, strengthens the spirit, and delivers from sinful thoughts.
  3. If a slip of the tongue occurs during prayer, you need to apply the Sign of the Cross on yourself, say “Lord, have mercy,” and begin reading again.
  4. You should not treat reading a prayer as a routine job, say it mechanically. The request and praise of the Creator must be expressed sincerely.

Important! The text in Russian is in no way inferior to the Church Slavonic version of the prayer. The Lord appreciates the spiritual impulse and attitude of the prayer book.

Orthodox prayer "Our Father"

The main idea of the Lord's Prayer - from Metropolitan Veniamin (Fedchenkov)

The Lord's Prayer, Our Father, is integral prayer and unity, because life in the Church requires from a person complete concentration of his thoughts and feelings, spiritual aspiration. God is Freedom, Simplicity and Unity.

God is everything for a person and he must give absolutely everything to Him. Rejection from the Creator is detrimental to faith. Christ could not teach people to pray any other way. God is the only good, he is “existent”, everything is to Him and from Him.

God is the One Giver: Thy Kingdom, Thy Will, leave, give, deliver... Here everything distracts a person from earthly life, from attachment to earthly things, from worries and draws him to the One from Whom everything is. And petitions only indicate the statement that little space is given to earthly things. And this is correct, because renunciation of the worldly is a measure of love for God, the other side of Orthodox Christianity. God Himself came down from heaven to call us from earth to heaven.

Important! When reading a prayer, a person should be overcome by a mood of hope. The entire text is imbued with hope in the Creator. There is only one condition - “just as we forgive our debtors.”

The Lord's Prayer is a prayer for peace, tranquility and joy. We, sinful people with our problems, are not forgotten by the Heavenly Father. Therefore, you need to offer prayers to Heaven constantly, on the road or in bed, at home or at work, in sorrow or in joy. The Lord will definitely hear us!

St. Assumption Church

Heavenly Father // of this visible world and the invisible creator // Adorn all things with Your wisdom // The heavenly armies serve You // Human nature prays to You // Your greatness is inconceivable in the mind // knowledge is acceptable only by faith // we humbly pray to You // have mercy on creation Yours // and save our souls from troubles //

To the Creator and Creator of the visible and invisible world, // Let us praise the Heavenly Father and our God, // bring Him glory, honor and worship, // Who is the Wisdom of the entire universe: // Truth, Living and the Way of salvation. // The source of life for our immortal, // exuding the breath of life to all creation. // Accept our prayerful sighs, // Singing to you alone:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was to God, and God was the Word. These divine words are spoken to us by the great Apostle John the Theologian. It is impossible for the human mind to comprehend the Wisdom of God, nor to see our God. The ranks of angels do not dare to look at Him, except by faith and prayer to cry out to the Father and our God:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name;

Our Father, You are the Creator of the world, everything visible and invisible;

Our Father, You are the beginning of all things in heaven and on earth;

Our Father, the heavenly angels serve and glorify You;

Our Father, all people bow down and pray to You;

Our Father, You are Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end of the entire creation;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

The Apostles of Christ, desiring strengthening of faith and prayerful communication with the Heavenly Father, asked the Lord Jesus Christ: “teach us to pray.” He said to them: “Whenever you pray, go into your closet and shut your doors: pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father, seeing in secret, will reward you in reality and say to Him: Our Father who art in heaven , Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” The apostles have heard, and we will cry: Alleluia.

No one is worthy from those bound by carnal lusts and worldly passions to come or draw near or serve You, our only God. You alone are Holy - sanctify and wash our unworthy souls from the vice of sin, so that with a pure heart and lips we will sing:

Our Father, may Your kingdom come, the Kingdom of peace and love;

Our Father, Thy will be done in every Thy creation;

Our Father, You alone are the father of those who live on this earth;

Our Father, accept us also, as the Father accepted the prodigal son;

Our Father, do not forsake us sinners who ask for Thy mercy and help;

Our Father, many of our sins fell upon the thorns;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

Let us become kind, let us offer up our prayers to the Heavenly Father with fear and faith, putting aside all worldly cares. This is the message of our needs and demands, our sorrows and sorrows, and in the contrition of our hearts we will cry out to Him unceasingly: Alleluia.

The great prophet Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on the Throne, high and exalted, and the edges of His robe filled the entire Temple. And the seraphim stood around Him, six wings to one and six wings to another: and two covered their faces, and two covered their feet, and two flew and cried out to each other and said: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts, fill all the earth with glory His. This happened, so that we all had faith in the Creator and our God, crying out:

Our Father, Your name is wonderful in heaven and on earth;

Our Father, the heavenly seraphim unceasingly sing of You;

Our Father, cleanse our unclean lips too, so that we may praise You;

Our Father, may Your ever-present Light shine upon us sinners;

Our Father, grant us Your good peace, so that we may trust in You;

Our Father, may our path to You be pure and without temptation;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

The storms of life drown our sorrowful souls in this world. By passions and desires we are all drawn into the abysses of sin and there is no help for us except You, the One Creator and God, our Father, stretch out Your hand and snatch us from eternal destruction. With the Spirit of Your mouth, revive, cleanse and guide us on the paths of salvation, so that we may come into the mind of truth and sing to You: Alleluia.

Hearing the disciples of Christ the words of the Lord: “Be ye perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” May this perfection be the beginning of our salvation in the good deeds of our souls. Help us, Heavenly Father, to love our enemies, and to pray for those who create all sorts of misfortunes for us, in fulfillment of Your commandments, not in word or tongue, but in deed and truth, crying out to You like this:

Our Father, strengthen us in the purity and perfection of the Spirit;

Our Father, do not reject our prayers offered to You;

Our Father, have mercy on us damned ones;

Our Father, do not deprive us of eternal life;

Our Father, illuminate our dark souls with the sun of Thy Truth;

Our Father, forgive and forgive sinners who repent;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

May the divine power of God's Providence direct our souls on the path of salvation, so that they do not stumble in their false wisdom, but fulfilling the commandments flow to the Lord who says: “Turn to Me, and turn away from your evil undertakings and from all your wickedness, and turn your faces to the words Mine, and I will accept you.” Knowing this, in the tenderness of our hearts let us sing to our God: Alleluia.

Having seen the wickedness in the adulterous and sinful human race, the Lord said: “I do not want the death of the sinner, but that the wicked should turn from his way and live to be him. All his sins, even those sins, will not be remembered: until he brings justice and righteousness, he will live in them.” Help us, Lord, to get rid of our sins, which defile our souls, and in contrition of hearts we constantly cry out like this:

Our Father, create in us a pure heart and renew a right spirit in our wombs;

Our Father, do not deny Your Face and do not take Your Holy Spirit from us;

Our Father, grant us purity of mind and a contrite and humble heart;

Our Father, feed us who are hungry not with our daily bread, but with every word from Your mouth;

Our Father, do not lead us into temptation or the proud thinking of our spirit;

Our Father, deliver us from the evil one who turns us away from salvation;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

Let every breath praise the Lord, of this world, visible and invisible. Let the angels and all the powers of heaven glorify Him, let them sing to Him with the trumpet, the psaltery and the harp, for His mercy endures forever toward His creation. Let us also sing prayers to Him, that He may hear us and incline His ear to all who cry: Alleluia.

In a world of sorrow, wake up, but take heart - these words are spoken to us by the Holy Scriptures. For enduring sorrows is a great reward from the Lord to those who love Him. Let us strengthen ourselves with these verbs and sing like this:

Our Father, strengthen us to endure all our sorrows without complaint;

Our Father, remember us unworthy in Your Kingdom;

Our Father, warm our hearts with Thy love;

Our Father, send Your grace to help all those who mourn and are burdened;

Our Father, forgive the sins of our enemies, for they do not know what they are doing;

Our Father, keep us all in peace and love;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

Let us love each other, so that with one mind we confess our Orthodox faith in the One God, the Father Almighty; heaven and earth tell us the greatness of His Glory. Contemplating this message with one mouth and one heart, we who are unworthy will sing joyful praise to our God: Alleluia.

God is marvelous in His saints, strengthening with the Holy Spirit those who love Him and glorify His Holy Name. Wonderful are His works in all His creation. And we, Thy creation, Lord, hear our prayers and sanctify us, reward us not according to our deeds, but according to Thy mercy, pour out grace on those who thirst for salvation. Let us come to You with faith and love, Lord, and be partakers of eternal life, singing to You:

Our Father, You are our God, ineffable in Your greatness;

Our Father, You are our God, invisible and incomprehensible to the human mind;

Our Father, You deigned to accept the image of a servant, so that You might save the human race;

Our Father, You are our God in the revealed and unmanifested blessings that have been upon us;

Our Father, thousands of archangels and angels stand before You, doing Your will;

Our Father, You are our God, clothed with light like a robe;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

The Lord says something strange and incomprehensible to His people: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool; what house shall ye build Me, and what place of My resting place. For all this was created by My hand, and this is all Mine. And to whom will I look but to him who is meek and silent and trembles at My words. “So look also at us, sinners and unworthy, who in the humility of our hearts sing to You: Alleluia.

Thou art all, O Lord, unto us sinners by Thy grace. For our sake and for our salvation, You so loved the world, as You gave Your only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him may not perish, but have eternal life. For this glory we give thee calling:

Our Father, You alone are our true God, long-suffering and abundantly merciful;

Our Father, You are the ineffable Love of Your world creation;

Our Father, I will not die, but I will live and tell Your works, O Lord;

Our Father, accept with strength our praises offered to You;

Our Father, enlighten our hearts with Your Truth;

Our Father, with all our breath we too will praise Thee;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

Every being of heaven, earth and hell unceasingly glorifies Thee, O Lord. Singing, crying, crying and speaking, creatures bring praise to their Creator. Heaven and earth are filled with Your great glory. Holy and holy are You, Heavenly Father, and Your glory is magnificent. You have created all things with wisdom, and to Him we offer praise, constantly singing: Alleluia.

The multi-verbal oracles will not be able to comprehend the mysteries of God in Thy world-creation, O Lord, lower with the mind the beauty of Thy creation. By Thy wisdom He hung the earth upon nothing by Thy commandment, and all the heavenly bodies speak of their Creator. Showing the way of salvation to His creation, so that no one perish, having faith in the One God, and crying out:

Our Father, create us and save Your creation according to Your mercy;

Our Father, accept those who pray to You with faith and love;

Our Father, cleanse our souls and hearts from the evil conscience;

Our Father, do not turn Your face away from us sinners and sorrowful ones;

Our Father, guide us unworthy to the path of salvation;

Our Father, grant us to serve You alone in righteousness;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

To save Thy creation, Thou hast shown Thy great miracles to the human race. With Your innumerable power You have helped us all, O Lord, and with the multitude of Your mercy You have brought us all from non-existence into existence, instructing and admonishing those who seek salvation, mercy and intercession, singing to You with faith: Alleluia.

Our Father, living in heaven, show Thy mercy to Thy creation, bless Thy people who pray to You, Lord, do with us Thy rich mercies and Thy bounties. Remember us, Thy unworthy servants, who pray and cry to You:

Our Father, listen to the voice of our prayer;

Our Father, instruct us to walk in Thy truth;

Our Father, do a sign with us for the good of our salvation;

Our Father, make our hearts glad that we may fear Thy Holy Name;

Our Father, do not leave us to help and save all those who trust in You;

Our Father, You are our God, have mercy on us;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

We offer you all-contrite singing, unworthy servants, in our prayers. Grant, Lord, that we may be preserved without sin, and do Thy Holy will, fear Thee, and serve Thee all the days of our life. Do not put us to shame because of the expectation of Thy mercy, and grant us all that we ask for salvation, so that with faith and love we sing to Thee: Alleluia.

The Quiet Light of Your holy glory in the creation of the heavenly luminaries You, Lord, manifest to the whole world. Enlighten our souls, darkened by passions, with the light of Your intercession, warm our cold hearts and do not reject us who seek Your salvation, Lord. Show Thy mercy to all who honor Thee and call upon Thy name:

Our Father, fill our lips with Your praise;

Our Father, grant that we may be preserved without sin;

Our Father, visit us with Thy mercy and bounties;

Our Father, help us to avoid the various snares of the evil one;

Our Father, preserve us by the grace of Your Most Holy Spirit;

Our Father, number us unworthy among Your inheritance;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

O Lord, bending the heavens to save us sinners, do not despise our prayer. Hear the prayers of those who bring You, put in us the fear of Your blessed commandments and deliver us from every thought of the evil one, so that we are admonished by Your teachings, in spiritual joy we will sing to You: Alleluia.

Singing Your greatness to the human race, we pray to You, Lord, instruct us in Your righteousness, straighten our path before You, delivering us from the work of the enemy. And may you not destroy our souls with the wicked, nor will you deny us from salvation, as we cry incessantly to You:

Our Father, accept the earnest prayer from us, Your servants;

Our Father, have mercy on us according to the multitude of Your compassions;

Our Father, send Thy mercies upon us and upon all Thy people;

Our Father, do not cast us away from the future eternal life;

Our Father, Righteous Judge, do not condemn us to eternal torment;

Our Father, long-suffering and abundantly merciful, have mercy on us;

Our Father, Heavenly King, // save and have mercy on us sinners.

Oh, great God and Lord of hosts, the visible and invisible world! You alone are the Holy Lord our God, the beginning and end of all existence, incomprehensible by any human mind. The ranks of angels cannot look at You; the hairs of men cannot look below You. Every knee bows to you, in heaven, on earth and under the earth. All creation prays to You, asking for mercy and intercession. Receive our prayers and sighs in them. Singing to You alone: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

Prayer to God our Heavenly Father

O great Lord, Creator and Creator of this visible and invisible world. Our Father! Living in heaven and embracing the whole universe with the Holy Spirit, holy and majestic is Your name! All Thy creatures of heaven, earth and the underworld bow to Thee, singing, crying, crying and saying: “Thy creation calls to Thee, and in every place of Thy dominion, let every breath and creature praise the Lord.

Oh, all-merciful God and our Heavenly Father! Accept our unworthy thanksgiving, praise and prayerful sighing to You, from the depths of our souls we cry to You, hear our voice. Do not forsake us by Your mercy, lest we completely perish. May Thy mercy be upon us, as we trust in Thee, our Savior and Protector. By Thy providence direct our lives for good and salvation. Receive us all in repentance, convert the lost to Your Truth, heal the sick, comfort the sorrowing, deliver us from every action of unclean spirits. Send down to us a peaceful, faithful mentor, guardian of our souls and bodies, so that we may live according to Your will. Count us all among Your chosen flock. May we, through the multitude of Your bounties, achieve our salvation, constantly glorifying Your all-honorable and magnificent name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

I turn to God in prayer,

in the evening before bedtime

and every time I repent to Him for those

sins that I did during the day.

About the one I hated

about the one I condemned

to whom I remembered for insults,

to those who were not friends with me.

For everything I feel guilty this evening

an hour before bed, about how I was too free

in your words before the Creator.

Because I was in the family I was daring

And often grumbled at his own people,

considered himself extremely honest

I fell into the devil's snare.

So break the network of vice

Lord, Savior, my Creator!

Get rid of the flow of evil thoughts,

Cleanse your soul, my Father!

I will only do good

Strive for truth and love,

To love both the meek and the wicked,

So that I can enter eternal life.

My Lord and Lord of the world

My soul calls to You, to where in

eternity of ether, life is immortal, my destiny.

I often turn my gaze to You,

Creator, my Creator.

From the depths of my soul I drink

Prayers, first syllable, Father!

Heavenly Father, my Savior!

Hear my first cry.

Receive me into Your abode

Where would I find peace?

I believe that Your bounties

They will be a blessing to me.

All worries will disappear

And I will remember only You.

I will be happy with you

Fear and all sadness will disappear

My soul will forget all evil.

With You I will avoid sin.

And I will see the eternal kingdom,

Already living here on earth

I will know Your holy life

which You promise me.

When you encounter difficulties in life,

When you do something evil,

Then you immediately repent about it

And you try to do good.

And you find an excuse in it

When did you get on the right track?

Bringing repentance for sins

To turn yourself to God

Seek consolation only in God

May your Creator help you

You will receive forgiveness for your sins

And it will be easy for you everywhere.

Just live like this

So that you are not poor.

Being rich is also bad

You try to forget about the poor man

Live like a king and let your life be sweet

Beloved, dear, holy, with whom you will find peace.

Don't think for yourself often

About how good I am.

With such a thought of mine

You are going to sin.

Our life is the sea in which you will meet everything

By- Latin:

Pater noster,
qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie.
Et dimite nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,
Sed libera nos a malo.

In English (Catholic liturgical version)

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Why did God Himself give a special prayer?

“Only God Himself can allow people to call God Father. He granted this right to people, making them sons of God. And despite the fact that they withdrew from Him and were in extreme anger against Him, He granted oblivion of insults and the sacrament of grace.”

(St. Cyril of Jerusalem)

How Christ taught the apostles to pray

The Lord's Prayer is given in the Gospels in two versions, more extensive in the Gospel of Matthew and brief in the Gospel of Luke. The circumstances under which Christ pronounces the text of the prayer are also different. In the Gospel of Matthew, the Lord's Prayer is part of the Sermon on the Mount. Evangelist Luke writes that the apostles turned to the Savior: “Lord! Teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples” (Luke 11:1).

“Our Father” in the home prayer rule

The Lord's Prayer is part of the daily prayer rule and is read both during Morning Prayers and Bedtime Prayers. The full text of the prayers is given in Prayer Books, Canons and other collections of prayers.

For those who are especially busy and cannot devote much time to prayer, Rev. Seraphim of Sarov gave a special rule. “Our Father” is also included in it. In the morning, afternoon and evening you need to read “Our Father” three times, “Virgin Mother of God” three times and “I Believe” once. For those who, due to various circumstances, cannot follow this small rule, Rev. Seraphim advised reading it in any position: during classes, while walking, and even in bed, presenting the basis for this as the words of Scripture: “whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

There is a custom to read “Our Father” before meals along with other prayers (for example, “The eyes of all trust in You, O Lord, and You give them food in due season, You open Your generous hand and fulfill every animal’s good will”).
