Salvatore Portugal. Eurovision changed the rules for a Portuguese participant with a heart defect

Portugal's Salvador Sobral won Eurovision 2017 with the song Amar Pelos Dois.

Singer from Portugal Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision 2017 international song contest, the final of which was held in Kyiv.

The main prize of the competition was presented to Sobral by last year's Eurovision winner, Ukrainian singer Jamala, who had previously been given during her performance. After this, the Portuguese once again went on stage and performed his composition for an encore.

The second place was taken by the representative of Bulgaria of Russian origin with the song “Beautiful Mess”, he received 615 votes. In third place was the group from Moldova Sunstroke Project with the song “Hey Mamma”, gaining 374 votes.

Let us note that it was Sobral who was called by the bookmakers the main favorite of the competition. The odds shifted in his favor during this week: before that, bookmakers gave preference to Italy.

The representative of Italy, considered one of the favorites, took only sixth place. Ukraine is in third place from the bottom, beating only Germany and Spain.

27-year-old Portuguese Salvador Sobral admitted that he did not immediately realize that he had won. He stated this at a press conference following the competition. According to Sobralu, the realization came to him only after one of the members of the Portuguese delegation told him about the victory.

At the briefing, journalists congratulated the singer on his victory and predicted the status of a national hero for him, since thanks to Sobral, Portugal became the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time.

The Portuguese performer shared his plans for the future and thanked everyone for their support. In addition, Salvador announced a tour of his native country.

"I'm happy if I can bring something new, make some change with my song. If I can contribute to even the slightest change in music, I will be very happy," he added.

Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois

The winner admitted that the song that won the hearts of Europe was actually the creation of his sister Louise. According to him, she wrote the lyrics to the song on the last day before the Eurovision selection.

“When I thought about this song, it seemed to me that people would be attracted to its simplicity. And my brother could sing “Happy Birthday” in such a way that it would be incredible,” Louise said.

Salvador Sobral performed the lyrical song Amar Pelos Dois. In it, the singer sings about a wounded heart and about the beloved who abandoned him.

In the song, Sobral asks his unknown lover to return and promises to love her as much as he can. Such a love story literally melted the hearts of the world's viewers.

As part of the competition, Sobral also received another award - the Marcel Besançon Prize in the category "Art Prize" (for the highest artistic achievements). His sister also received this award for best composer.

Let us note that long before the festival it became known that the singer had suffered from a heart defect since childhood. Due to illness, the Portuguese could not take part in the stages of the competition on an equal basis with other candidates.

El Salvador could only watch his favorite football from the spectator rows of the stadium or while sitting on the sofa in front of the TV. Forced to spend most of his time at home, Sobral began to study music. Following the example of his sister Louise Sobral, the boy became interested in singing.

In addition to musical studies, Salvador was attracted to psychology, which the young man began to study at school. At the competition, Salvador behaved simply, because he felt that he was not ready becoming an idol. Often on the set, Sobral appeared in a faded denim suit and a simple T-shirt. The young man reached the finals and took seventh place among the participants of the season.

During his student years, Sobral fell in love with traveling: the young man visited the USA for his studies, and during the holidays he went to the Spanish island of Mallorca, where he worked part-time as a restaurant singer. Eurovision 2017

Participation in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in the capital of Ukraine, was important for the creative biography of Salvador Sobral. Such a step ensured the young performer popularity in his homeland, and in case of victory, world fame. For his performance at the competition, Salvador Sobral prepared the song “Amar pelos dois” (“Love is enough for two”), which was written by the musician’s sister in just one night. The song received the maximum number of votes at the national audition, which took place in March.

Due to illness, participation in the competition itself took place under special conditions for El Salvador. An agreement was concluded between the organizers of the event and the singer’s representatives for Salvador’s arrival only for the competitive audition. At the preliminary rehearsals, the young man was replaced by his sister, a well-known folk singer in her homeland, who was also ready to sing instead of Salvador in case of health problems arising during the competitive performance. As a result, the artist performed at the competition without going up to the big stage and with little spotlight lighting.

At the beginning of May, 26 participants from different countries came to Kyiv to compete for the Crystal Microphone. Ukraine, taking advantage of the conflict situation with Russia, did not allow the participation of the Russian singer, a finalist of the Factor-A competition, who suffers from cerebral palsy. Participant from Portugal Salvador Sobral with the song Amar Pelos Dois (“Love for Two”) became the winner of the annual international Eurovision Song Contest 2017, the final of which was held on May 13 at the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv. The event was broadcast live on the official competition channel on YouTube.

The artist was never able to explain his victory, because during his performance there were no visual effects or dance performances on stage. That is why Sobral is perplexed and even slightly shocked. “Did the audience really appreciate my vocal abilities so highly?” he wondered in a conversation with reporters.

Sobral noted that his performance did not include dances, accompanying effects or other paraphernalia, which is why he was surprised that the judges gave him first place in the competition.

Salvador Sobral also did not fully understand the voting system, according to the results of which he became the winner of Eurovision 2017.

Second place was taken by 17-year-old Christian Kostov, a participant from Bulgaria born in Moscow, who performed the song Beautiful Mess. He was given 615 points. In third place is the musical group SunStroke Project from Moldova (374 points). The top six also included the Belgian singer Blanche with the song City Lights (363 points), the Swedish singer Robin Bengtsson (344 points), and Francesco Gabani from Italy (334 points).

The winner of the competition was the last of all the performers to arrive in Kyiv and missed his rehearsals several times for health reasons - the singer was diagnosed with a heart defect.

A 27-year-old man was diagnosed with congenital heart disease some time ago. Doctors insist on transplanting this organ - if the operation is not carried out within the next few months, death cannot be ruled out.

Competitors from 26 countries competed for the main prize of the competition - “Crystal Microphone”. 20 of them - representatives of Moldova, Azerbaijan, Greece, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Armenia, Australia, Cyprus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Belarus, Croatia, Hungary, Denmark, Israel, Romania, Norway, the Netherlands and Austria - qualified for the finals based on their results performances in two semi-finals. Six more countries qualified for the final automatically - these are Great Britain, Italy, Spain, France and Germany, which are the sponsors and founders of the competition, as well as Ukraine, which this year accepts all participants.

Russian singer Yulia Samoilova, who was supposed to represent our country at Eurovision in Kyiv, said what she thinks about the victory of Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral at the song competition.

As the singer said on her Instagram, she is very happy that this particular contestant took first place.

“I’m very happy that Portugal won. Salvador Sobral, you are magnificent!” said the artist.

After the Eurovision final, local Ukrainian stars, former participants of the song contest, performed. Last year's winner Jamala, who brought Eurovision to Kyiv, presented a new song I Bilieve In U. During her performance, local prankster Vitaly Serdyuk staged a provocation. He jumped onto the stage, wrapped in an Australian flag, and, turning his back to the audience, took off his pants. Security escorted Serdyuk out. Australian representatives said that the provocateur had nothing to do with them, despite the fact that he was wearing an Australian flag. “This idiot with our flag is not from Australia, we apologize to everyone present,” the delegation emphasized.

On May 14, the name of the winner of the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv became known, it was the singer Salvador Sobral, who represented Portugal with the song “Amar pelos dois”.

Early in the morning of May 14, the whole of Europe found out who won Eurovision 2017.
The singer Salvador Sobral from Portugal won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 by performing the touching ballad "Amar pelos dois".
It was an exciting evening at the International Exhibition Centre, where in front of thousands of people in the arena and millions of people on TV, Salvador from Portugal won Europe's favorite TV show - Eurovision 2017 with the song "Amar pelos dois"!
So, I would like to immediately sincerely congratulate the winner Salvador Sobral and his sister Louise, as well as the Portuguese delegation on their victory at the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

The winning song "Amar pelos dois" was performed in the most professional manner.
She conveyed to the viewer the whole atmosphere with which Salvador presented the song; his performance was touching and sensual.
And the song itself seemed to transport the viewer somewhere far away... far into the beginning of the 20th century.
The performer's vocals and manner of performance are very unusual, which was clearly conveyed to both the jury and the audience.

His victory came as a surprise to many, but after his performance in the semi-finals, bookmakers predicted a high place for Portugal.
During the voting, a very tense atmosphere reigned in the IEC, and when at the very end the presenters named Salvador Sobral as the winner of Eurovision 2017, the public joyfully accepted this fact.
The winners are not judged, and Portugal was named the winner of the competition, this country receiving the highest score from both the jury members and television viewers.

For a long time, the main contender for victory in the current competition was considered the 34-year-old Italian, winner of the competition in San Remo, Francesco Gabbani.
However, literally on the eve of the final, bookmakers changed the forecast.
They favored 27-year-old Portuguese representative Salvador Sobral with his soulful jazz ballad in Portuguese "Amar pelos dois".

In this song, the representative of Portugal sings about a heart that, according to the lyrics, “will endure everything and can love for two.” Both the performer’s appearance and his performance style are radically different from the Eurovision numbers.
Salvador abandoned fancy scenery and ballet on stage.
The performance itself was simple, without any show or costumes - just Salvador and a microphone.
But that is why there is nothing to distract about the sensual song and the soulful performer.
Perhaps the performance with a small number of movements is also dictated by the Portuguese’s state of health.
A touching, aesthetic and, in a good way, old-fashioned ballad in Portuguese evokes polar opinions.
For some, this is a song of a level higher than Eurovision itself, for others it is a mothball unworthy of a modern competition.
One thing is certain: El Salvador showed the best result in recent extremely unsuccessful years for Portugal.

This year there was a new voting system, where professional jury members first gave their points, and at the very end the presenters announced the results of the audience voting.
As a result, according to the jury and TV viewers, it was the representative of Portugal, Salvador Sobral, who received the highest scores.
As an encore, he performed the winning song together with his sister Louise Sobral, who is the author of this composition.

26 wonderful performers sang their songs with soul and heart, competing for the main prize - “Crystal Microphone” and the title of Eurovision 2017 winner.
However, there can only be one winner and that is Salvador from Portugal, who won with a total score of 758 points.

In second place was the singer Christian Kostov from Bulgaria with the stunning composition “Beautiful Mess” with a score of 615 points.
In third place is the Moldovan group Sunstroke Project with the song "Hey Mamma" with 374 points.

Europe decided this way, and next year the Eurovision Song Contest will go to Portugal.

Eurovision 2018 will take place in Portugal!
Presumably the competition will be held in the capital - Lisbon.
