T-ara T-ara

T-ara (Tiara, Korean: 티아라, Japanese: ティアラ, often spelled T-ARA or T♔ARA) is a South Korean girl group that debuted in 2009 under the label Core Contents Media. Before debuting, they were called "Super Rookies" and trained for three years. The group originally consisted of five members: Jiae, Jiwon, Eunjung, Hyomin and Jiyeon. They released their first song "Joheun Saram" (좋은사람, "Good Person") as the soundtrack for the Korean drama "Cinderella Man" in April 2009. After Jiae and Jiwon left the group, T-ara debuted as a six-member lineup with the addition of Boram (Boram), Soyeon (Soyeon), and Qri (Curie) in July 2009. Their debut album "Absolute First Album" was released in December 2009 and included hits such as "Geojitmal (Lies)", "TTL (Time to Love) ", "TTL Listen 2", "Bo Peep Bo Peep", "Cheoeum Cheoreom (Like the first time)" and "Neo Ttaemune Michyeo (I Go Crazy Because of You)". The next album, Temptastic (2010), included five songs, including "Wae Ireoni (Why Are You Being Like This?)" and "Yayaya". John Travolta Wannabe (2011), which included "Roly-Poly", peaked at number one on the Gaon chart and earned the group several awards and nominations. Six months later, the group released their third album, Black Eyes (2011), which included three hits: "Cry Cry", "Uri Saranghaetjanha (We were in love)" and "Lovey-Dovey". The title track "Cry Cry" earned the group number one on the Billboard Korea K-Pop Hot 100. In 2011, T-ara signed a $4.3 million contract with J-ROCK for their Japanese debut. Their label is EMI Music Japan while management comes from J-ROCK. The first single was a remake of their hit "Bo Peep Bo Peep". The song ranked number one on the Oricon Weekly Chart with 49,712 copies sold. T-ara released their first Japanese album, Jewelry Box, in 2012, which peaked at number two on the Oricon chart. Three people have been added to the group since debut: Hwayoung in 2010, Areum in June 2012, and Dani, who was supposed to join the group in December 2012 (though she still hasn't joined). Hwayoung later left the group following a scandal in July 2012. At the beginning of July 2013, Ahrym left the group, explaining that she wanted to pursue a solo career. Following Ah-reum's departure, the agency announced that T-ara was returning with the original lineup they were with when they debuted in 2009.

Changes in the group

T-ara was originally a five-member group, but with the departure of Jiwon and Jiae, three girls were added in their place - Boram, Kyuri and Soyeon. Later, Hwayoung joined the group as a rapper (that is, there were seven of them). In 2012, with the release of the Day By Day album, Ahreum joined the group, and it was also announced that Dani, who had played a role in the Day By Day drama video, would soon join. In August 2012, Hwayoung left the group amid scandal. In July 2013, Ah-reum decided to go solo, after which Core Contents Media announced that the group was returning to its 2009 lineup. It was also announced that future member Dani will only be joining T-ara's subgroup n4 (which includes Jiyeon, Hyemin, and Eunjung).

Excerpt characterizing T-ara

The next day, Prince Andrei went on visits to some houses where he had not yet been, including the Rostovs, with whom he renewed his acquaintance at the last ball. In addition to the laws of politeness, according to which he needed to be with the Rostovs, Prince Andrei wanted to see at home this special, lively girl, who left him with a pleasant memory.
Natasha was one of the first to meet him. She was wearing a blue home dress, in which she seemed even better to Prince Andrei than in the ball gown. She and the entire Rostov family received Prince Andrei as an old friend, simply and cordially. The entire family, which Prince Andrei had previously judged strictly, now seemed to him to be made up of wonderful, simple and kind people. The hospitality and good nature of the old count, which was especially striking in St. Petersburg, was such that Prince Andrei could not refuse dinner. “Yes, these are kind, nice people,” thought Bolkonsky, who, of course, don’t understand one bit the treasure they have in Natasha; but good people who make up the best background for this especially poetic, full of life, lovely girl to stand out against!”
Prince Andrei felt in Natasha the presence of a completely alien to him, special world, filled with some unknown joys, that alien world that even then, in the Otradnensky alley and on the window, on a moonlit night, teased him so much. Now this world no longer teased him, it was no longer an alien world; but he himself, having entered it, found in it a new pleasure for himself.
After dinner, Natasha, at the request of Prince Andrei, went to the clavichord and began to sing. Prince Andrei stood at the window, talking with the ladies, and listened to her. In the middle of the sentence, Prince Andrei fell silent and suddenly felt tears coming to his throat, the possibility of which he did not know was within himself. He looked at Natasha singing, and something new and happy happened in his soul. He was happy and at the same time he was sad. He had absolutely nothing to cry about, but he was ready to cry. About what? About former love? About the little princess? About your disappointments?... About your hopes for the future?... Yes and no. The main thing that he wanted to cry about was the terrible opposition he suddenly vividly realized between something infinitely great and indefinable that was in him, and something narrow and corporeal that he himself was and even she was. This opposite tormented and delighted him while she sang.
As soon as Natasha finished singing, she came up to him and asked him how he liked her voice? She asked this and became embarrassed after she said it, realizing that she should not have asked this. He smiled looking at her and said that he liked her singing as much as anything she did.
Prince Andrei left the Rostovs late in the evening. He went to bed out of habit, but soon saw that he could not sleep. He lit a candle and sat in bed, then got up, then lay down again, not at all burdened by insomnia: his soul was so joyful and new, as if he had stepped out of a stuffy room into the free light of God. It never occurred to him that he was in love with Rostova; he didn't think about her; he only imagined her, and as a result his whole life seemed to him in a new light. “What am I fighting for, why am I fussing in this narrow, closed frame, when life, all life with all its joys, is open to me?” he said to himself. And for the first time after a long time, he began to make happy plans for the future. He decided on his own that he needed to start raising his son, finding him a teacher and entrusting him with it; then you have to retire and go abroad, see England, Switzerland, Italy. “I need to use my freedom while I feel so much strength and youth in myself,” he said to himself. Pierre was right when he said that you have to believe in the possibility of happiness in order to be happy, and now I believe in him. Let’s leave the dead to bury the dead, but while you’re alive, you must live and be happy,” he thought.

One morning, Colonel Adolf Berg, whom Pierre knew, as he knew everyone in Moscow and St. Petersburg, in a spick-and-span uniform, with his temples smeared in front, as Emperor Alexander Pavlovich wore, came to see him.
“I was just now with the Countess, your wife, and was so unhappy that my request could not be fulfilled; I hope that with you, Count, I will be happier,” he said, smiling.
-What do you want, Colonel? I am at your service.
“Now, Count, I’m completely settled in my new apartment,” Berg said, obviously knowing that it could not but be pleasant to hear this; - and that’s why I wanted to do this, a little evening for my friends and my wife’s acquaintances. (He smiled even more pleasantly.) I wanted to ask the Countess and you to do me the honor of inviting us for a cup of tea and... dinner.
“Only Countess Elena Vasilievna, considering the company of some Bergs humiliating for herself, could have the cruelty to refuse such an invitation. - Berg explained so clearly why he wants to gather a small and good society, and why it will be pleasant for him, and why he spares money for cards and for something bad, but for a good society he is ready to incur expenses that Pierre could not refuse and promised to be.
- But it’s not too late, Count, if I dare to ask, then at 10 minutes to eight, I dare to ask. We will form a party, our general will be. He is very kind to me. Let's have dinner, Count. So do me a favor.
Contrary to his habit of being late, Pierre that day, instead of eight minutes to ten minutes, arrived at the Bergs at eight minutes to a quarter.
The Bergs, having stocked up what they needed for the evening, were already ready to receive guests.
In a new, clean, bright office, decorated with busts and pictures and new furniture, Berg sat with his wife. Berg, in a brand new, buttoned uniform, sat next to his wife, explaining to her that it is always possible and should have acquaintances with people who are higher than oneself, because only then can there be a pleasure from making acquaintances. - “If you take something, you can ask for something. Look how I lived from the first ranks (Berg considered his life not as years, but as the highest awards). My comrades are now nothing yet, and I am in the vacancy of a regimental commander, I have the happiness of being your husband (he stood up and kissed Vera’s hand, but on the way to her he turned back the corner of the rolled-up carpet). And how did I acquire all this? The main thing is the ability to choose your acquaintances. It goes without saying that one must be virtuous and careful.”

Korean pop groups remain popular today. For many years, the female team T-ara has been pleasing fans, despite discord, scandals and changes in the lineup.

History of creation and composition

Initially, five girls - Jiae, Jiwon, Eunjung, Hyomin and Jiyeon, who passed the pre-selection, rehearsed and prepared together for 3 years under the guidance of Mnet Media. This team was called Super Rookies. In the spring of 2009, their first song was released, which became the soundtrack to a television drama.

Jiae (Lee Ji Ae)

In the summer of the same year, Mnet Media announced that Jiae and Jiwon would leave the team due to differences in views on the music format. Three new members took their place.

The first was Boram, the daughter of singer Jung Young-Rok and actress Lee Mi-Young. Soyeon, a former SM Entertainment trainee who was supposed to become the leader of another group, and a girl named Curie joined the new lineup less than a month before their debut performance. In early July 2009, the group signed a contract with a subsidiary of Core Contents Media. This is where the history of the creation of the group begins.

Music

T-ara made her debut on Mnet's music show M Countdown on July 30, 2009, where she performed the single Geojitmal. The first performance was a failure, the audience responded negatively and said that it was like a performance of little schoolgirls. Already in the fall the group recorded their first studio album, Absolute First Album. At the 24th Golden Disk Awards, T-ara was awarded the title of "Rookie of the Year".

T-ara - Roly Poly

In February 2010, the group announced the re-release of their debut disc entitled Breaking Heart. The album's two lead singles, Neo Ttaemune Michyeo and Naega Neomu Apa, were released in February 2010 and peaked at numbers 1 and 13 on the South Korean charts, respectively. In the summer of the same year, the singers committed a noble act: they donated all the proceeds from their online store to charity for African children.

On July 16, 2010, representatives of the pop group announced Hwayoung as a new member as a rapper. The reason for her appearance in the lineup was the banal lack of female artists at concerts at a time when some singers are pursuing solo careers or participating in other projects.

The second album in John Travolta's discography, Wannabe, was released on June 29, 2011. It peaked at number 3 on the album chart in Korea and sold over 30,000 copies before the end of the year. The single Roly-Poly from this record reached 1st place in the charts in its homeland and became the best-selling in 2011. The video for this track has received more than a million views. From that moment on, the producers decided to enter the Japanese market.

The following February, T-ara was ranked 17th on Forbes Korea's Celebrity 40 list of Korea, making them the third most popular girl group and the seventh most powerful female celebrity in the country.

Lately, you can often see questions about the scandal with T-ara which occurred three years ago and still does not subside.

In this topic, I will try to briefly outline the essence of the scandal.

1. Anonymous letter from Hwayoung.

It all started with an anonymous letter in which Hwayoung introduced herself as a member of a famous idol group. In her letter, she did not mention any names, but simply said how difficult it was to endure the bullying when she was new to the group.

November 6, 2011, message entitled “Being an outcast.. is actually difficult and tiring” , was uploaded by user "Suk Ryu" to the online forum Nate Pann.

"Hello. I kept thinking whether I should do this or not, but I finally decided to write a few things..

The group I'm in is... a group that is recognized by its first initial letter.

I’m a new member of the group, so I’m a little scared, because I’m very timid and shy, I’m still embarrassed to communicate with girls... This is one of the reasons why I become an outcast

The group members must be against me joining the group...

In our dorm I become invisible
But when the cameras are filming us, the girls suddenly put their hands on my shoulders and show kindness.

When we train... I really feel like I'm going to die.
When I make a mistake, I hear criticism of myself, something like: “You can’t even do that?” And so on all the time.

Even now, I'm sitting alone, the girls went shopping without me...
They are gone for a long time, I want to forget about my career and just leave.

However, this is the path I chose, I just recently joined the group, so it's really difficult for me now.

Now that I've written this, I feel a little better.

Thank you." Translation © Anna Shumskaya

2. Feud with group members + boycott Hwayoung

Fans noticed that Hwayoung in the group as the “black sheep”. The group members delete it from their Twitter accounts. Later information appeared that the reason for everything was her refusal to perform on stage. Music Bank.

She refused to perform due to a leg injury she received earlier in training during their concert in Japan. But the organizers suggested that she not dance, but simply sit on a chair and thus perform her rap part. But Hwayoung categorically refused. Eunjung and Hyomin were supposed to perform Hwayoung's rap part, but due to lack of time, they were unable to get all the details from Hwayoung, and as a result, Hyomin made a mistake on stage.

She later tweeted “...It hurts me too. I really want to cry. But instead I should train."

3. Hwayoung gets kicked out of T-ara

This is where the whole “soap opera” begins! CEO Kim Kwang Soo expelled Hwayoung from T-ara. He explained that the reason for her exclusion from the group was not just one, but a number of other incidents that the company could no longer tolerate.

In addition to the incident with Music Bank, there was also a scandal when, during a performance on stage, "Inkigayo" dated January 29, 2012 - at Hwayoung her breasts were exposed... (I can’t show this scene, it’s +18, but you can find it on Google if you’re interested in how it happened)

Also, the group members repeatedly complained about Hwayoung for not being diligent enough in training. Hwayoung received complaints from employees, especially their manager. One day, Hwayoung threw a tantrum right in front of fans and reporters, she threw her crutches on the ground, sat down and threatened the manager that she would scream loudly - apparently, she had a tough schedule and she was just tired of being driven back and forth.

Official statements stated that all participants T-ara, were saddened by Hwayoung's departure, because during this time they became attached and fell in love with her. The agency terminates the contract for the benefit of itself Hwayoung to protect her from actions that could harm her.

RESULT: At that time, many fans were on the side of T-ara and their agency. They were even indignant, saying: “How bad is Hwayoung, she was given the chance to perform with such a famous idol group and she’s even lazy to practice! Moreover, he constantly tries to arouse pity by slandering our beloved participants.” The agency was content, if not for one thing...

4. Fans began their independent investigation + comments from eyewitnesses!

The agency had already breathed a sigh of relief, and they wanted to turn the page, but that was not the case... Fans actively began to “dig” the Internet, as a result of which more and more new facts began to emerge that were far from in favor of T-ara.

Fans began to search for data (photos, videos or comments) of the group members humiliating Hwayoung. Boram breaks Hwayoung's umbrella, 2PM's Wooyoung tries to fix it, Hyomin hit Hwayoung's eye with her hand, Eunjung puts a huge piece of rice in Hwayoung's mouth and more, you can see in the topic, the link to which I will publish at the end of the article.

Comment from a Japanese employee who worked with T-ara: “When I was working with T-ara as a translator, I noticed that Hwayoung hardly spoke to anyone and was quiet and modest. She was just doing her job. She always smiled. She made a better impression on our employees than other girls. I knew that she felt alien and lost, since she was new, I tried to make her feel comfortable. But she still seemed weak, and I immediately noticed that her relationship with the other members of the group was strained. Unfortunately, I think that only idols with strong personalities can survive in show business, and those who are kind and friendly will always be despised."© Anna Shumskaya

A little later, a comment appeared from a member of the Hot Chicks dance team (they worked with T-ara, Davichi, KARA, Brown Eyed Girls, Rainbow Pixie, etc.). She said: “This took place during the Japanese concert. We did the dance for the song "Lovey Dovey" and prepared for "Roly Poly". These days we had a very busy work schedule. The T-ara dancers and members, who had just completed their previous work, were extremely tired.
However, the members gathered their last strength and were practicing when Hwayoung got the choreography a little mixed up. Seeing this, Jiyeon and Soyeon mocked her sarcastically, saying, "Since you've already decided to join the group, you should work a little harder."
Hwayoung then became a little depressed, but one of the dancers calmed the situation and the rehearsal resumed. But Hwayoung was making a displeased expression on her face, and JiYoung, who saw this, slapped Hwayoung on the cheek and told her that she came later than the others, so she should act reasonable and rehearse without a displeased expression.
The atmosphere became very tense and Hyomin took JiYeon outside, telling her that she shouldn't behave like that. Even after this incident, all the members were indifferent to Hwayoung instead of calming her down.
After the incident, T-ara went to prepare for their performance of the song “Day by Day.” I could only see T-ara on TV.
After seeing them on screen, I thought the girls' relationship had improved, but the members don't even want to sit in the car with her."

5. Resonance: 6,300 fans left the T-ara fan cafe + mass surrender of tickets for their concert + petition for the disbandment of the group

As it turned out, the agency lied to the fans, the members of the group lied to the fans - as a result, more than 6,300 fans left the T-ara fan cafe, and tickets for T-ara's first ever solo concert “Jewelry Box” were sold out en masse, which they had been waiting for for three years years since debut!

SBS producer Ryu Chul Min said after new facts about Hwayoung came to light, "I won't contact T-ara in the future"- which caused a huge scandal. Later, he explained that he expressed his personal opinion.

Large cosmetics company Tony Moly breaks contract with T-ara, before its end, regardless of the fact that they had to pay a penalty. Other advertising companies followed suit and either canceled or refused to sign contracts with T-ara.

Fans demand that T-ara be removed from TV projects:
1. Eunjung's suspension from the drama "Five Fingers" and the show "We Got Married"
2. Hyomin's suspension from "Man of a Thousand"
3. Soyeon's suspension from 'Lovers with Hongdae'
4. Cut out all T-ara moments from various KBS SHOWs.

There was even an online petition to disband the group called: "T-ara Disbandment Petition" . The petition states: “As a group that does not take the scene seriously, as a group that is leading the way in spreading bullying, a big social problem, we ask that this group be disbanded. Looks like it's time for T-ara, a group that doesn't respect their sunbaes, if they don't believe another artist can be popular enough, let them know the verdict of the public. Please disband this group.". The petition to disband T-ara has received over 71,700 signatures.

6. T-ara admitted guilt and continues to apologize

Well, we’ve come to the point that has recently started to raise questions like: “What happened?” After all, the boycott continues. At a recent concert in Seoul, there were allegations that fans hid their light sticks and also staged silence during T-ara's performance - an action they call "10 minutes", which is deliberately ignoring the group. No matter where T-ara goes or appears, outraged fans constantly appear and demand the group's disbandment.

Therefore, T-ara members have started admitting their guilt by appearing on TV shows or on their SNS accounts... and here is Eunjeong's recent apology, which you can read here: T-ara's Eunjeong vows to continue apologizing

T-ara is a Korean girl group formed by Mnet Media in 2009. Even before their debut, the group attracted increased interest and was known as the "Super Rukies". The name of the group is derived from the English word "tiara" ("tiara"), which seems to indicate that they will become "queens of the music industry." The girls' first performance took place on July 29 on MBC's Radio Star talk show. On the same day, a video for the song "Lies" was released.

Pre-debut:

The group's original lineup included JiE (leader), Ji Won, EunJung, HyoMin, and JiYoung.

T-ara consisted of five members who underwent preparation and training for their debut for three years until 2009, when they finally debuted.

In April 2009, the group released their first song, "Good Person", for the soundtrack to the drama Cinderella Man.

At the beginning of the same year, Jiyeon took part in the recording of the single "Woman's Generation" along with SeeYa and Davichi, which topped the charts with incredible speed.

In June 2009, Core Contents Media (the same agency that handled Davichi and SG Wannabe) reported that former leader Jiae and Jiwon had left the group. The girls decided that T-ara's style did not suit them. Almost immediately, Jeon Boram, daughter of Jeon Youngrok, became a member of T-ara. And three weeks before their debut, Soyeon and Qri joined the group. The agency officially announced the new lineup in July 2009. Soon, 6 members were already working on the group's debut single "Lies".

Debut: 2009-2010

Preparation for the debut itself took almost three years. On July 29, the girls made their debut on MBC's Radio Star, and a video was released on the same day. The first performance took place on Mnet's M! Countdown show, where they performed the songs "Lies" and "Wanna Play". Their debut was received quite negatively. Critics found their images boring and their performances weak and devoid of emotion. But T-ara has not lost her fighting spirit, which we can see in their next works.

Several members of the group (Eunjung, Soyeon, Hyomin and Jiyeon) teamed up with boy group Supernova and released a new single, TTL (Time to Love).

Core Contents Media stated that Hyomin will become the new leader this year, "In order to instill a sense of responsibility in each member of the group, we have decided to change the leader for each new album release. We will be passing the position on to members who have not been leaders before. Reason, why Eunjung was him during their debut was because she and Hyomin trained in T-ara the longest and we felt she would be a better fit." The agency representatives continued, "Similarly, Hyomin was chosen for T-ara's Japanese promotions and comeback with 'Roly-Poly' for the same reason as Eunjung. We made this decision after long discussions with both members and our agency."

"Roly-Poly" was ranked as the most popular, downloaded and highest-grossing song of 2011 in Korea according to the Gaon Chart. Soon after the release of the short version of "Cry Cry", promotion of the video for the composition "Lovey-Dovey" began. The reason for this decision was explained by the fact that she “wants to practice a little more and will join when she is confident in herself and her abilities, so as not to cause unnecessary inconvenience to the group.” Instead, she played one of the main roles in the video drama "Day By Day". The announcement of Dani's addition to the group was met with great skepticism, as the group's manager stated that she had been spotted on the street.

On June 14, Core Contents Media officially introduced 18-year-old Ah-reum as one of two new members of T-ara. Unlike Dani, she joined the group in July during the promotions for "Day By Day". Her official live debut took place on MBC's Music Core.
