Drawing eyes. How to draw a realistic eye in Photoshop

One of the most important elements of a pencil portrait is the eyes. It’s not without reason that they say “the eyes are the mirror of the soul.” One expression in the eyes can say a lot about a person: whether he is sad or happy, angry, offended, thoughtful, happy, upset.

At the initial stages of learning, it is better to use a hard or medium pencil (softness H-F-HB or T-TM in Russian markings).

The human eye has the shape of an ellipse. The inner corner of the eye is located at the level of the center line.

The outer corner of the eye may be slightly raised above the center line.

On the inside, the upper part of the eye is most often slightly concave.

But it should be remembered that depending on the type of face, the structure of the eyes can also change, fluctuating within insignificant limits.

We draw the basis, taking into account the above characteristics of the structure of the eye.

Add eyelashes on the upper part of the eyelid from the outside.

In the lower outer part of the eye we also draw eyelashes, but shorter than the upper ones. Using a thin line we emphasize the thickness of the lower eyelid.

Having chosen the direction of view, we draw the outline of the iris and pupil.

We shade the iris and pupil, and the pupil should be darker. By changing the pressure of the pencil, we can change the tone of the shading, making it thicker and darker or lighter and lighter. The color of the iris depends on the physiological characteristics of the eyes and the brightness of the light.

Apply shadows from the upper eyelid on the iris on both sides of the pupil. A shadow can also fall on the white of the eyeball, but it is lighter and lighter, and is visible directly under the eyelid, and sometimes almost unnoticeable.

Next, draw the thickness of the upper eyelid with a line parallel to the edge of the eyelid. We emphasize the base of the upper eyelashes, making the line of their attachment clearer. We highlight the contours of the inner corner of the eye. We dial tone on the pupil and iris. Making eyelashes thicker. And finally, add a highlight by selecting the pencil with an eraser.

It is best to draw the eyes in pairs, constantly comparing them. But do not forget that there are no people with exactly the same left and right sides of their faces. So the eyes will be different from each other.

Every artist who paints a portrait of someone must be able to draw the person's eyes. At first glance, it seems that there is nothing complicated about this. However, to make the drawing realistic, it is necessary to take into account all the nuances and small details. How to draw a person’s eyes beautifully with a pencil?

Structure of the human eye

The human eye consists of several external structural elements, each of which performs a specific function:

  • upper eyelid;
  • lower eyelid;
  • upper eyelashes;
  • lower eyelashes;
  • iris and iris;
  • eyeball (sclera);
  • pupil;
  • teardropper

To draw a person’s eye with a pencil, you need to take into account all the folds with smooth lines, shadows and much more, as well as choose the right location for the eyebrow. Otherwise, the drawing will seem implausible.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing Human Eyes

Drawing a person's eyes with a pencil requires several stages. Step by step, line by line, the whole image is formed from structural elements. The step-by-step process of drawing a human eye can be seen in the picture.

Step 1

First you need to draw the shape of the eye. To do this, it should be enclosed within a figure with corners. You immediately need to draw the folds that are visible above the upper and lower eyelids. You can also draw the shape of the eye from two perpendicular lines crossed with each other. The horizontal line should be longer than the vertical one. Then the four points are smoothly connected. A teardrop is indicated in the inner corner, without which the eye will turn out unnatural. External and internal corners can be drawn both at the same and at different levels. Additional lines need to be erased.

Step 2

It is necessary to draw the iris, which should be round in shape. It is important to take into account that the third part of it is hidden by the upper eyelid. Inside the iris, strictly in the center, you need to draw a pupil and paint it dark.

Step 3

Then you can start drawing the upper eyelid, behind which part of the iris with the pupil is hidden. To do this, the method of drawing lines in the form of strokes is used. The main thing is not to overdo it so that the eyelid has the optimal thickness and is darkened in the crease area. After this, you should draw the lower eyelid, which is highlighted from the inner corner of the eye.

Step 4

At the next stage, you need to draw a highlight near the iris on the pupil. It is depicted as a small circle. Opposite the glare, a spot of diffused light is formed, which is also located near the pupil, only on the other side. This is a reflex that needs to be drawn with smooth lines.

Step 5

The next step is to depict the eyebrows and brow ridges, which provide protection to the eye from external irritants. The eyebrow is always placed above the organ of vision and pushed slightly forward. It is recommended to first draw a test line, and then draw hairs from it. The eyebrows are thicker at the base than at the temple. The hairs can be placed in one direction or intersect.

The upper eyelid is higher than the lower one. In the photo below you can see all directions. They must be followed, otherwise you won’t be able to draw a realistic eye.

Step 6

The eyes must be framed with eyelashes. They can be drawn in advance, but you will still have to adjust them in the final stages. Like everything else, eyelashes should look realistic, and not like in children's drawings, where they resemble daisy petals. In the photo below you can see the correct design. The upper eyelashes are always longer than the lower ones, thick at the base and thinner towards the end. To do this, as each eyelash is drawn according to its growth, the pressure of the pencil must be reduced.

Step 7

The last step is necessary in order to remove auxiliary lines, remove unnecessary strokes, make certain places darker or lighter or darker. That is, bring your drawing to perfection.

Video: how to draw a person’s eyes with a pencil step by step

The video presents a lesson for beginners that will help you draw a person’s eyes with a pencil, taking into account each line. Having clearly familiarized yourself with the general recommendations, even an inexperienced artist will be able to draw a person’s face.

I have already said that eyes and lips are the most important parts that a beginning artist needs to be able to draw on a person’s face. We have already depicted, now I will tell you how to draw a person’s eyes step by step with a pencil for beginners. Besides the fact that this is just part of the face, you need to understand that for each shape you need to depict different eyes. You also need to understand that the fullness of the eye and its color rendition can help you express your mood and mind. In fact, the eyes are the most difficult to draw, since they are mainly used to form the overall picture. The pupil, eyelashes and corners of the eye are of great importance; we will pay attention to these points and draw a more or less standard eye; novice artists usually train using this drawing.

We draw with a regular pencil, but if we draw with colored paints, we will have to work even more, since color rendering is a difficult moment in the picture. I provide you with a master class on step-by-step drawing of a human eye.

We immediately draw the lower eyelid, two lines, an elongated horizontal one and a small semi-vertical one.

Now there are a lot of elements to draw. On both eyelids we immediately draw a few eyelashes; it is very good if they are drawn casually, for naturalness. Above the right eyelid we draw a semi-arc to complete the eye. And the most important thing at this step is to mark the boundaries of the pupil, a vertical arc on the right and a vertical arc on the left. On the left we even draw a small bulge, it is needed to diversify the eye and the pupil in particular.

Then we need to draw the pupil. On the left we make another arc, and it looks like the letter B. We draw a circle and in it another circle, sketch the central one. We also sketch the upper part of the pupil. And in the very central part it leaves a miniature oval not sketched. The direction of the lines with which we sketch parts of the eye is very important; they should be directed in different directions. For example, in the center of the pupil it is vertical, and just above the lines look diagonally down to the right.

Lightly draw all the lines of the eye and use very thin lines to sketch out the empty part of the pupil.

Good afternoon. Today we will tell you how to draw eyes with a pencil. Almost always, when you start a new business, you immediately imagine how you will do it and what the end result will be. But sometimes there are things that you don’t even want to take on, because you simply cannot understand where to start and how to continue. Some kind of stupor!

I'll tell you the backstory. Our site is run by 2 people: me and my sister, you can read more about us here. So, all the drawings presented on this site are made by my sister, and I just post them online. Those. I don’t have any artistic education or skills, in a nutshell I CAN’T DRAW. And when my sister showed me this drawing, I just gasped!! “How can our readers draw this? It's difficult". But after sitting on it for literally 20-30 minutes, I figured it all out and drew something more or less similar to what is described in our lesson. And on the second try I got almost the original!

Is this all I'm talking about? And to the fact that nothing is impossible. Any task can be accomplished in no time, the main thing is to start... and finish :) Especially when there are detailed instructions for use! Forward! It's beautiful to draw beautiful eyes!

Eyes are the mirror of the soul of any character. Therefore, by correctly depicting the eyes, you can not only convey the mood, but also the character of the hero. With just the eyes you can make both a negative and a positive character.

We recently studied with you, and we made this lesson in addition to the lesson "". The naturalness of the image depends on how you depict the eyes in a portrait. Therefore, if you are a beginner artist, we advise you to first figure out how to draw eyes with a pencil, and then start drawing the entire portrait.

It is very important to be able to draw a classic female eye without unnecessary emotions. Once you learn how to display such a drawing, you will be able to draw more serious expressions. The superhero's eye is always on alert! It's wide open and has a lot of glare. This is the eye of the interested character. Shadows and highlights will add volume and realism to any eye. Their correct location can save even a not entirely successful drawing.
The eye, drawn by the artist’s hand, makes a colossal impression. And all because of the correct anatomy. All internal tissues and muscles of the eye are drawn correctly. It is very important to be able to draw not only eyes looking straight ahead, but also at a certain angle. For example, when looking up, the pupil reaches its maximum position, and the iris rolls behind the upper eyelid.
Wide open eyes are characteristic of a child or a young naive girl. With the help of such eyes, create the right image.
A frown is characteristic of capricious and daring heroines, or those who are overly self-confident. Therefore, try not to overdo it if you want to add just a little menacingness.
A difficult viewing angle is always a challenge, because the crystal of the eye requires volume, which is quite difficult to depict.
The eye in profile has a rather interesting appearance. As you can see, you first need to draw the eyeball itself, and only then surround it with eyelids. Don't try to press your eyelids too tightly.
The view from below is quite exciting. Here it is important not to overdo it with long eyelashes and curved lines. Don't forget to distort the crystal a little.
